Chapter 84 Indifferent With Him

Chapter 84 Indifferent With Him
Sarah

A month passes. Even a little longer. I'm getting used to my new place and am slowly starting to die of boredom. I'm living.

Alone, that is, with Boris the Rock. He never leaves my side, but we've started to get along a bit. For the first two weeks, he didn't even want to say a word to me—the regulations didn't allow it. It was only recently that I managed to loosen him up. For work, of course!

Boris and I sometimes started watching action movies and other films together. He'd sneak peeks from the hallway... Keeping his distance. His domain was mostly the hallway, plus the guest room where he lived.

Boris tried not to disturb me and stayed in one place all day. I was amazed at how he managed it. Such honed self-control! He's simply well-trained. Sometimes Boris was relieved by another guard, Igor. But he still spent most of his time with me.

I rarely saw Shawn anymore, he was mired in work matters. He'd come over a couple of times a week, and then only for five minutes. I had no desire to communicate with him; he understood this perfectly well, and judging by his expression, he was even angry.

Boris reported to him about his work, what I was doing, what we were doing, then he left. And my heart ached! That damned, stupid heart! I tried to hate him to the core! But these idiotic thoughts painted me pictures of him rushing to her and giving her his all, while he hated me.

I didn't want to talk about my sister. At all. I disliked her. I'm sure I'll never be related to her. She hates me. And she hated me even more when she found out I was pregnant. By her own husband. That's probably why my ears burn so often. Although I never used to suffer like that.

Living in a new apartment near the city center is a real luxury. But I'm not thinking about luxury; I'm thinking about my little one. The baby is growing very quickly and is starting to be more active.

I have to update my wardrobe more often, but luckily, I can travel outside my gilded cage! I can ask Boris to leave the house at any time; of course, he only arranges it with the boss's permission.

So I visit doctors, various childbirth preparation classes, and just go for walks in the city or the park. I'm starting to really miss him. I don't know why, but my feet carry me back to the village. There was definitely no time for boredom there, and since I'm not used to sitting idle, I turn into a sluggish amoeba.

Shawn kept his word!

After all, his humanity hadn't completely died out...

I was glad about this, I even softened towards him when the doorbell rang early Sunday morning. Boris opened the door, as usual sternly assessing the situation, and there... there, frozen in the doorway, was Aunt Sveta. Her eyes sparkled with happiness, and beside her stood her puffy plaid bags.

"Auntie!" I practically ran into her arms, nearly sweeping her off her feet.

"My dear! Well, finally we see each other!"

“What a surprise!" We'd called each other before, but I still wanted to see my beloved foster mother. I invited her inside, showed her my new place, and offered her tea and pie, while she passed me some homemade treats.

"There's milk, homemade chicken, and even jam! I was worried you'd lost so much weight, but you need proper nutrition especially now!" she cooed, laying out the treats on the table, the jars clinking. "And give that big guy a treat too! Call him over here!"

She nodded slightly at Boris, frozen in the doorway. "Look at his menacing face! As if he's chronically depressed. Bring the young man here, we'll cure his bad mood with some sweet jam!"

We burst into laughter, and Boris cleared his throat.

"Come on over here, dear, are you hungry?" Oh, well, Aunt Sveta, as usual, loves to fatten everyone up. This big guy must have triggered her maternal instincts.

Boris was a bit stubborn, but soon gave in and sat down at the table, succumbing to our coaxing as Aunt Sveta opened a jar of fresh, natural jam. The apartment smelled incredible...

We had a good time chatting over a cup of delicious tea. Boris returned to his post, and Svetlana whispered a little to me, remembering the main thing. "Sarah, well, you know... well, this DAD of yours came running to me..."

"What? To you?"

"Uh-huh. I didn't have time to tell you, but he showed up in person to accept the job! The renovations are already finished, the house is as good as new! It's all sparkling and shiny, the neighbors are choking with envy, and everyone's asking, 'Who is this rich Pinocchio I've just got?'" She said.

I just don't believe her words. Did Shawn come to see her himself? It feels like he's sucking up to her. He's bringing out the big guns. What a strange man he is! He seems to hate me, but at the same time, it's as if he wants me back.

Me...

Or am I just imagining it?

"His guys are taking over the garden now! Wow, what guys they have, you should have seen them! Girls from all over the village are hanging on my fence, watching the whole process, as a squad of strong men in shorts parades around the garden, tidying things up. Even Granny Masha, on crutches, came running to watch, even though everyone thought she was bedridden.

Amazing!

She's definitely not talking about Shawn...

I can hardly believe it! I'm simply amazed. I can't even utter a word in response.

"Shawn met me too. Honestly, I liked him, despite all your stories. He's a picture-perfect man! So stately, well-bred, so handsome! He pulled up in an expensive foreign car, like the president, accompanied by security, and approached me, his suit gleaming with ironing. I almost fell over! He introduced himself, told me everything, and said, I want to help, Sarah sends you her regards! She's now living under my care because she's carrying my child, and she's come to you for help! Now we'll be making her beautiful. She is fine, alive and well, living in a comfortable apartment in the best part of town, carrying my son. She's on maternity leave. No work or stress! She's being looked after by qualified doctors. Come visit. Overall, he seemed so polite to me, not a monster at all, like you described him.”

I started fanning myself with my hand, and it felt incredibly hot, my blood pressure jumped a little in disbelief.

"But that's not all, listen up," she said, taking a sip of tea, "the guys were all sold out! They were in great demand! The whole village was given a makeover... Our girls fed them home-cooked meals in return, and they, in return, patched up the houses. The village was transformed beyond recognition in a month!"

"Phew..." I felt a shiver run down my spine.
