CHAPTER 29
November "The flowers and the card?" Mandy asked me.
Mandy and I were the only ones left in the house seeing as the ones with boyfriends decided to ditch us.
We sat in the living room with a bucket of ice cream between us and both of us had cookies beside us while we watched Big Bang Theory.
We don't follow the series, we just watched some episodes because, let's face it, it's a very funny show.
"I threw them out, how didn't you notice?" I asked her.
"I don't know, I just thought it was still here, you should've left the flowers at least, it had a homey feeling" she said as she took one big scoop of the Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
"Do you know how creepy it was to look at that flower every day, I don't even know the guy and he knows where I live, I don't even know what he looks like. Nah man, I'm not cut out for that shit" I told her taking my own big scoop of the frozen goodness.
No, honestly though, did she think I'd keep those things in the house and smile dreamily any time I saw them?
Crazy child!
"You know, this beef thing going on between you and your ex-boss, I don't still get it. If I were in your shoes, I would've answered him, he only asked a question, he didn't throw you out, right?" She asked me and I found myself nodding my head, unable to talk.
In a way, she's right. I would've told him he asked me to get him lunch and then go further to ask him why he called me to get him lunch, right?
I was so disappointed that I left without giving him an answer or getting my own answer.
"Yeah, but, you're my friend and I'll always have your back and I know at that point, the question was not what you were expecting and that made you leave the way you did, all am saying is that y'all should try and talk, maybe everything will work out but, if you really hate him, I have some hot dudes that you'd love to meet" she said, wiggling her eyebrows.
"At times like these, I thank God I'm not the dating type" she concluded, and her attention was diverted back to the television.
When did this kid become so wise?
"I don't hate him but, I sure as hell won't mind checking those hot guys of yours out" I told her, and we laughed.
Just then, the door flew open and the traitors that went on a double date, entered inside with huge smiles on their faces.
"Aww, look at them" Sally said and fixed herself between Mandy and I, yes, she took our ice cream for herself.
"Someone's here to say hi" she said in my ear and a very happy Casper entered into the house.
"Who went through a breakup?" Casper asked pointing at our bucket of ice cream.
"Mandy did" I said and stood up to hug him.
"How'd you hug him before me?" Nifise whined and we laughed.
"So, guys, Nov here has agreed to meet a friend of mine" Mandy spilled.
Yeah, she has that habit of telling people's business like it was the weather she was talking about.
This news shocked everyone though and I didn't miss the way Casper suddenly coughed.
"What's with the faces? When did me going out to have a nice time with hot guys become surprising?" I asked them and they adjusted their faces.
"At least, something good came out of this bonding that both of y'all had" Nifise said, and we laughed.
"So, now that I know you're not dead, I have to go home. Big day at work tomorrow" Casper said, taking out his car keys from his pocket.
Everyone bade him good night and he left.
"So, what else did you guys talk about?" Sally asked.
Kalmon I was rounding up my schedule for tomorrow when Casper rushed inside the house like he has been chased.
I was about asking him why happened when he started talking.
"Look cuz, I don't care if you want to know or not but, I'm telling you this because if I didn't, it'll hunt me forever, knowing how you feel about her" he paused.
I see, this is about her.
"Her friend Mandy is hooking her up with some "hot" dude" he said, making air quotes with his fingers when he said "hot"
I'm sorry what?
Hooking who up with who?
Certainly not my woman but of course, I say nothing, and I put on my most nonchalant face, closed my Mac book and left him there, going up to my room.
"Cuz!" He yelled but I didn't answer him, instead, I entered my room and banged the door.
I was becoming angry; did she agree to this or she was forced? What if she asked for it?
Different thoughts crossed my mind but the one that hurt the most was the thought of seeing her with another man.
I squeezed my eyes shut to get the image of her with another man out of my head but the next thing I heard was the sound of a vase breaking right beside me.
It took me three seconds to know that I was the cause.
"Cuz?" Casper yelled, banging on my door.
"Open up" he said, I rolled my eyes and yelled "I'm fine, go to bed".
I guess tomorrow, we'll see who's this sick dude that's trying to die.
