CHAPTER 24

November So, today's my last day at the company, to say I'm sad is an understatement, all these people I've come to know and see every day, I won't see them as much.

This morning was the hardest because, I had to face Kalmon.

"Hey, I've made up my mind about this whole working thing" I told him "And?" He asked, I could see the hope in his eyes that I'll stay, and it broke me.

"I don't think it will be good for me to continue working here. Everything is perfect here and I don't think I can manage a full working job and my studies at the same time. Thank you so much, Kalmon" I told him, the hope I saw in his eyes was long gone now. He closed his eyes for a moment and when he opened them, they were exactly how they were when I first walked into this office. Cold and distant.

What I'd give to go over there and hug him and tell him I'll stay but, with the look in his eyes, I'm sure he'll throw me out on his own so, I respected myself and made no move.

"Okay, your salary will be sent to you. It was nice working with you Miss Tete" he said dryly.

Miss Tete? Is he for real? Miss Tete?

"Yes Mr. Knight, I'll be leaving now" I said and left his office, banging the door in the process so he'll know that he's not the only one annoyed.

"Hey girl" Esther said giving me a sad smile.

"Allow me to say that you're the best secretary Mr. Knight has ever had. His anger ratio reduced from 10 to 5 and that's an improvement" she said, and I laughed.

"Well, he had me to take out all his frustration on" I said smiling at her.

"I'll miss you girl" I told her

"I'll miss you too" she said and engulfed me into a bear hug.

"Hey, where's my hug?" Casper asked when he spotted us.

"Come here" I said and hugged him tightly.

"I can't believe you're really leaving" Casper said looking at me intently.

"Did anything happen?" He whispered, concern etching on every part of his face.

"Nothing happened, I thought about it logically and I don't think I can handle them both. I'm graduating in some months’ time; I'll be back soon” I told Casper who really looked like he was about to cry.

"Don't be such a big baby" I told him and gave him a hug again "I'll come see you every day" Casper said and I smiled at him "Or you'll come see Sally everyday" I mocked, and he laughed, I'll come see both of y'all. We're going on a date tomorrow" he said, and I smiled at him.

"I'll doll her up for you" I told him, and he laughed.

"Escort me out?" I asked him.

"Yes ma'am" he said, and we walked out hand in hand.

Kalmon It was at this point I knew that whatever I felt for November wasn't lust, I liked her, I really liked her.

I wanted to hold her close to me and not ever let her out of my sight.

"Yo cuz, what's got your panties in a twist" Casper asked me, opening a can of beer.

Casper and I have always been so close, he was more of a brother to me than my own brother well, half-brother was.

I trusted him with everything I had. I know I told him to be friends with November but sometimes, I get jealous, and I never get jealous.

Casper was a mini me. When I told him to start working in my company when he finished university, he said he'd stay with me.

He is my brother and my best friend.

"Nothing" I told him, ignoring the way he was looking at me.

"Oh, come on, I know. This has something to do with November" He said.

"I feel it's better this way, Kaez is back and if he finds out that you have a soft spot for her, he'd want to use her against you" Casper said and took a sip of the canned beer.

"I know it's just, how am I going to keep an eye on her when she's not here? I want to see her all the time" I whined.

"Oh My God, dude! You're so whipped" Casper mocked, and I gave him a death glare that made that stupid smile on his face go away.

"You don't have to keep an eye on her, she's a big girl, she'll be fine. How else did she take care of herself all this while?" Casper asked, I was seeing things from his perspective, but he wasn't seeing things mine.

Then, I didn't know her, and she didn't know me, things change.

"Yeah, whatever, I've told you to stop putting those dirty feet of yours on my couch" I warned.

"Sorry dragon" Casper said, and we laughed.

I guess Casper, as stupid as he is, he's right.

It's better this way, Kaez must not know about her.
