Chapter 57 Chapter 57) Stubborn.
“What?!”. Stephanie exclaimed, and the flower vase in her hand fell to the ground and shattered into pieces, but she did not mind that because her mind was focused on something else. And it was concerning what Kate had said to her.

“What do you mean by that, Kate? You got yourself a job at the Lycan King's mansion?! That is terrible news! That is a nightmare! That is unbelievable and reckless!”. She yelled, but covered her mouth after realizing that she was being too loud.

She couldn't afford her words reaching the ears of Alejandro.

“How is working at the Lycan King's mansion a nightmare, Miss Stephanie?”. Kate asked her, while acting naive, as if she had no clue about the kind of person Alejandro was.

Stephanie held Kate’s shoulders after hearing her say that. With a worried look in her eyes, she said to her, “You must find a way to quit your job today, Kate. I may be overstepping my boundaries in your life, but that's simply because I care about you”.

She looked around and made sure that no one was standing close by, before she continued to say to her, “Working in the Lycan King's mansion is a pure nightmare, child. The Lycan King is not to be messed with. Even as I am speaking to you now, the maidservants and everyone working there are desperately finding ways they could escape their fates, because once you get in there, it will be hard to quit”.

“So, you had better come up with an excuse and not show up to the Lycan King's mansion today”. She finished saying, while hoping that Kate was going to listen to her.

No. She wasn't hoping that Kate was going to listen to her. She was quite convinced that Kate was going to listen to her after what she had said to her.

She was certain that Kate would become scared and reconsider her decision.

But unknown to her, it was a different thought and a scenario that was playing inside Kate's mind.

‘You want me to quit after I successfully landed the job? Heck no way am I going to do that. I don't care. I have lived in a mansion that is worse than the Lycan King's mansion, so this is not going to be a problem for me’. Kate thought to herself.

But she maintained the surprised look on her face, before she suddenly smiled at Stephanie, as if she brushed the surprise away.

“Thanks for worrying about me, Miss Stephanie. But don't worry, because I am going to be alright”.

She added, “I am certain that working in the Lycan King’s mansion is not as bad as you imagine it to be”.

Stephanie slapped her forehead in disbelief, before she stopped holding Kate's shoulders and placed both hands on her own waist instead. “Haven't you been listening to what I said?”. She asked, while looking confused.

“Of course, I heard. But, don't worry about me, Miss Stephanie. I will be alright. I promise”. She announced, before she added on purpose, as she did not want to be nagged any longer, “I am running late, and I can't arrive late on my first day of work. See you later!”.

She hurried off as she said that, and the only thing Stephanie did was turn around and watch her leave, looking speechless.

“Why is she so stubborn? Why is she so naive?”. Stephanie muttered and felt great pity for her. But since she had refused to listen to her, there was nothing much she could do about it except hope that nothing bad would happen to her.

Kate arrived outside the building, and as she turned and saw that Stephanie had not come after her, she sighed in relief.

“Why is she so persistent in convincing me not to go? Why does she care so much about me?”. She muttered and found it weird, because she did not understand why someone she did not know from anywhere before, or had ever met before, would be so nice to her and care about her more than those animals called her family, who had always pushed her to the fire, rather than pulling her out of it.

She sighed because she found it weird that someone cared for her.

It had been a long time since she felt such warmth.

At some point, she felt a little disappointed that her decision might break Stephanie’s heart, but…

She knew that it was the first step she ought to take if she wanted revenge against those people and everyone.

Due to that, she was not going to listen to Stephanie.

The shelter building was not too far from the Lycan King’s mansion, so she began her journey on foot.

Tsk. She did not actually have a choice. This was the moonlight pack, where cars were rare, because most of the werewolves didn't care to have one, as they preferred traveling in their wolf forms.

‘I wish I could shift’. She thought while feeling gloomy as she kicked a small rocky stone which was in front of her.

She did not miss Paradise City at all, but she wished she had a car right now, which would reduce the stress for her.

“Stop complaining. You can do this”. She convinced herself, and what kept her moving forward with such a bright smile on her face was the fact that she had gotten a job at the Lycan King's mansion.

She thought that it was going to be very difficult to get a job at his mansion, and, at least, she thought that it would take a few days before she succeeded.

Fortunately, to her greatest surprise, she did not even have to stress herself out, and the job came knocking for her, as if it was fate, and as if it was something that had always been there waiting for her, and was meant to be.
