Chapter 56 Chapter 56) Shocked.
3am,
“No. No… no!”. Kira struggled on her bed before her eyes swung open, and she sat up on the bed.
She was sweating, with beads of sweat sliding down both sides of her temples.
As she tried to control her breathing, her eyes became teary, with tears threatening to escape from them.
“No. This isn't a dream. This isn't a dream. But, why? Why was it her and not me?”. She asked herself this question, and not being able to control her sadness, tears escaped her eyes and streamed down her cheeks, but she wiped them a second later using the back of her hand.
“I should not cry over this because this is not yet over. It won't be long, and I will reclaim what is mine. She should enjoy her position for now, because it won't last long for her”.
“Lycan King Alejandro has always meant to be mine, and he must be mine”.
“I won't allow a big nobody like her who came from nowhere to steal him from me”. She declared with darkened eyes and clenched both her fists, while knowing completely well that she was going to pay a visit to the Lycan King's mansion tomorrow morning.
She wanted to confront Demira, or rather, Priscilla.
It was obvious she had no clue about the state Priscilla was in.
The next day,
“This is really happening. It's not just my imagination”. Kate’s eyes sparkled with delight as she stared at her reflection in the mirror and said.
She had brushed her teeth, bathed, dressed up, and had eaten, as she wanted to arrive at the mansion early. To her, the sooner she gets there, the better. Besides that, her heart was beating fast, and she was afraid that if she did not make it to the mansion quickly, it was going to explode.
“I'm good to go”. She added with a smile and gave her outfits a big thumbs up.
She was wearing a dull colored grey shirt which tore a little at the side, and black trousers that looked worn out a little.
With that, her acting would be more convincing, and no one was going to suspect a thing.
After styling her hair into a ponytail, she left her room, only to return a few seconds later because of the error she made.
“I almost forgot. You are not supposed to come with me”. She said as she brought out her cell phone from her small purse and left it under the blanket after switching it off.
She could not afford to be caught or suspected if someone caught her using a cell phone, because, as a werewolf, to get one of the human products like a cell phone, was a difficult matter, especially for someone like her, whom everyone now sees as an orphan. But thinking about this, she had actually started seeing herself as an orphan.
Her mother was no more, and that man? He was not worthy of being her father, but was a certified animal, who was way worse than the werewolves he despised.
Though there was something she had wondered about.
Werewolves tend to stop aging like humans after they reach 27 years old. So, why did her mother marry a human who was going to grow old before her, and who would find out that she wasn't a human?
What sort of love blinded her eyes to that extent?
Though that was not her main frustration.
How old was she when her mother died?
She remembered.
She was twelve years old when her mother died, and was the same age when that bastard remarried and brought his children to the mansion, where they celebrated their annoying tenth birthday.
They dared to be happy and fill the mansion with laughter, when her mother had only just died, with her body cold.
He had cheated on her mother even before she died. What a cruel bastard he was.
“Are you off to work already, Kate?”. The caretaker of the building saw her as she was descending the stairs and asked her with a smile. Kate seemed to be a nice lady in her eyes, and she bonded with her right on the day she first met her.
She was also the person who made it possible for Kate to get the last room in the building. Maybe it was because Kate felt familiar to her. But how could that be when she recently met her?
“Yes, Miss Stephanie. I am off to work, and I am so excited”. Kate said to her, and had referred to her as ‘Miss’, because she was an unmarried young lady.
A mistake again. She was a young woman.
“I was not paying a lot of attention when you told me about your new job yesterday. So now tell me, what place was it that hired such a beautiful young lady like you?”. She asked, after Kate arrived at where she was standing.
“Good morning”. Kate greeted her, and she nodded in acknowledgment.
Then, with a bright smile on Kate's face which never faded, she said, “I got a job at the Lycan King's mansion. Isn't that awesome?”.
She froze the second after Kate said that to her, and half of her ribs froze away.
“Wh- what did I hear you say, Kate?”. She asked, and really hoped that her ears had a little problem and had misheard.
But, her hopes got shattered as she heard Kate's reply.
“It's exactly as you have heard it, Miss Stephanie. I got a job at the Lycan King's mansion”.
“What?!”.
