Chapter 75 - Gammas and Deltas
**Cassie** -
We talk a little more about what we think Jason should do to get Tara’s attention and to hold it when suddenly Jason perks up, “I’ve got it,” he says “I can do that, I need to talk to Jack, do you know where he is?”
“He’s in his office, want me to come with you?”
“Nah, I know exactly what to do, I’m going to move into the room next to hers, she won’t be able to avoid me then, and you know she has been since the moment she smelt me in your office, even when she didn’t know it was me, it’s not person to me, it’s personal to her mate and I’m going to show her that she can count on me.”
I worry for a moment that this might backfire, but Jason seems so convinced it will work that I dare not argue with him, at least he is showing signs of life again and I can be on hand as a confidant whenever he needs one.
“Ok,” I say, “It’s worth a shot, I’m here if you need anything Jase, I mean it, not just as your Luna but as your friend.”
He nods his head but I can see it isn’t really listening to me at this point, he is pacing the length of the room and muttering to himself. Next thing I know he is gone, the door is hanging open and Jason is nowhere to be seen.
*Incoming*, I link to Jack.
*What’s that love?*
*Jason is on his way to you right now, he has an idea and is really excited about it*
*What idea? Where are you?*
*I’m still in his room, he just left…*.
*He’s here, let me handle this then I will be with you, meet you in our room?
I’m heading there now, see you soon.*
I make my way out of Jason’s room with the food trolley and close the door behind me, then I slowly make my way down to the kitchen to drop off the trolley before heading to our room.
Walking into the kitchen I expect it to be empty due to the lateness of the day, but to my surprise Brian is sitting at the centre island, nursing a steaming cup of what smells like hot cocoa and looking morose.
I sigh internally, why do all my ranked members seem so troubled today.
Brian lets out an almighty sigh, clearly not aware of my presence yet, he must be deep in thought to have not heard the swinging door open.
I leave the trolley by the door and slip into the seat beside Brian’s nudging him with my shoulder, “what’s up?”
“Oh, Luna, I didn’t see you there, why aren’t you in bed, it’s late and it has been an exciting few days,” He is clearly trying to avoid my question so I ask again, nosiness aside, being Luna means being a mother to all, and the motherly thing to do here is to try to help with whatever is troubling him.
“Brian? What’s going on?” I say softly, “I might be able to help.”
“It’s nothing Luna.”
I stop him right there, “Cassie,” I say,” I am Cassie to you, not Luna”
“Cassie, right, sorry,” he looks about distractedly before sighing again and coming to the conclusion that I will not leave him to his misery. “It’s Mark,” he starts, then he stops just as quickly.
“What about Mark, he is OK isn’t he?”
“Yeah, he’s fine, great actually, he is super excited about this mission to the mountain caves, but I’m worried, he is a warrior and he is string, don’t get me wrong, I mean I train him and he kicks my ass,” he harrumphs a bit at that and I giggle.
“Then what’s up? And don’t tell me it is nothing, or that you are being silly, I know you Brian and you are not that kinda guy.”
“He just wants to prove himself to Jack, I know that, but I’m worried, he wants us to deviate from the plan and actually try to find Ace, but the issue is he knows Ace, ya know, he is from Twin Lakes, he knows how ruthless Ace can be, but he doesn’t seem to care about that, he just keeps on going on about how if we catch him then we will be remembered, but what if finding Ace means losing him?”
I hear the anguish in his voice as he speaks, and I agree, it isn’t nothing, this needs to be dealt with before they leave. I don’t want either of them risking themselves in the hopes of being ‘remembered’. I want them both to live long lives and I know that both of them would jump in front of the other if it meant one of them dying. And if one dies the other is sure to follow, they may have only been mates for a couple of weeks but I know their bond is solid like mine and Jacks is.
“Have you talked to him about this?” I ask.
“Of course I have, but he won’t hear me on this, he is absolutely convinced that the two of us could take him.”
“But it isn’t just him, he isn’t alone, he has Maddie, and her Father, and probably Frank too, I doubt he risked leaving them and returning to Twin Lakes in case you caught him.”
“I know! I know that, I told him that too but he isn’t listening” Brian lets out an anguished groan.
“Let me talk to Jack, I was heading up to meet him now anyway, and I will send you a message when we have a plan.”
“Thanks Luna, I mean Cassie, I can’t lose him now, not after we finally found one another.”
“I know, and you won’t, we won’t let that happen.” I slide off my stool and walk out of the kitchen with a heavy heart, I know I promised him,but if Mark is that determined there may be nothing we can do to stop him.
*Incoming* I link again, knowing it is how I started our last link as well.
*Who now*? Jason is just leaving. I hear the defeat in Jack’s voice even through the mindlink, he thinks there is someone else keeping us apart.
*Me, we need to talk about the plan for tomorrow, there might be a hitch.
Oh Ok, I’m glad it is you, I miss you, come on in when you get here, I am waiting for you.
You saw me, like, 2 hours ago
Which is almost 2 hours too long ago*
I walk to his office quickly with a smile on my face, I have missed him too, now all I want is to get this one last thing resolved and then we head to our room and to our bed for the rest of the night. It is almost midnight now and all I want to do is cuddle up with my man, close my eyes and get enough sleep to see me through tomorrow which is bound to be a tough one with our Delta and his mate at risk.
“I swear, these Gammas and Deltas are going to be the death of me,” Jack says as I walk into the office.
**Jack** -
I wasn’t joking when I told Cassie that 2 hours without her was 2 hours too long, I want to be with her all the time. Leaving her so that I could chat with Dave was harder than I like to admit, I wanted her to come with me. But we can’t be like that, I need to let her have her space, I need to make sure she doesn’t feel like I am wrapping her up in cotton wool, that her happiness is important to me just as her safety is. So I left, and I have been waiting to get back to her, but one thing after another seems determined to keep us apart, first Jason’s problems which are awful and needed us, now Brian needs us, if Cassie wants to discuss it now it must mean it is important, so I will wait for her here, in my office. I plan to make it a policy not to talk shop in our room, those rooms are for us and us alone.
“I swear, these Gammas and Deltas are going to be the death of me,” I say as she opens the door, “what happened?”
“I met Brian in the kitchen stewing over something,” She strolls in and walks over to where I am sitting in my chair behind my desk, she sits on my lap and places a kiss on my lips before continuing.
