Chapter 76 - To be Continued.....

**Authors POV - **

Cassie and Jack talk over the concerns they have regarding Brian and Mark heading out on this mission now that they know what Mark is thinking, but with the leak being out it would be odd for Brian and Mark to not go on this so-called trip they had planned. They decide to send Dave a message and see if he is still awake so they can go over options together and within minutes of sending the message to Dave the phone in Jack’s office lets out a resounding ring. Cassie jumps at the sudden sound after the silence that had fallen between them while they waited.

Jack reaches around Cassie, who is still perched on his knee, and picks up the phone, placing it on the desk and opting for the speaker option so the three could talk more comfortably.

“What are you 2 love birds still doing up at this hour? And what could you possibly need me for? It hasn’t gone stale over there already has it?”

They can hear the humour in Dave’s words but instead of joining the banter playfully Cassie speaks quickly, “We have a problem.”

“Mark wants to go off plan, and if it wasn’t such a risk I would leave him to it, but Brian is worried and rightly so, Mark is talking about actively searching for Ace, convinced he and Brian can handle him,” Jack finishes Cassie’s thoughts, saying the words she didn’t want to utter.

“But it isn’t just Ace, Maddie and her father are there, and Frank hasn’t returned so I am assuming he has stayed behind as well to aid them should they need it.”

“We know that, and so does Brian, apparently Mark doesn’t want to hear it, so we were thinking, do you think you could spare a few warriors? I am going to be sending 1 tracker, 1 scout and 3 warriors up into the mountain, they will be departing from here exactly 1 hour after Brian and Mark do. I will be telling Brian but whether Mark finds out or not will be up to him, I want them both safe, and while I appreciate that Mark is trying to help I don’t want him killed, or Brian for that matter which would happen if Mark died.”

“Hmm,” Cassie and Jack hear what sounds like papers being shuffled before they hear dave continue, “I can send 3 warriors and an additional tracker if you like, I can send the guy who followed Frank today, he has the best knowledge of the area as he got the furthest.”

“That would be a huge help, you trust these guys?”

“Actually 2 of the warriors are women, and yes I trust them, they may be warriors but they also aced the test I set up 3 days ago for stealth and for scouting, they are incredible and I trust all 4 of them implicitly.

“Perfect, so long as you trust them that is the main thing, and I trust your abilities so I know they would have been put to the test the other day so great news for you and for them, sounds like you have some gems over there.”

“Yeah, it’s been tough, trying to get to the bottom of why they allowed Cassie to be treated the way she was, Daisy in particular has been pushing that agenda, we believe we know why you were left to fend for yourself Cassie, but we need a little more information before I can share it with you, I hope you understand.”

“Of course Dave, I want answers, but I want peace more.” Cassie speaks honestly. While she was experiencing the torment of Ace and Maddie understanding why nobody stood beside her seemed all important, now that she was free and had found Jack she felt that the answers though important for knowledge's sake held little meaning to her now, she was happy, she was loved and she was sure that there were many people in her life now who would have stood up for her, who would have tried to put a stop to the treatment. That was all that mattered to her now. Cassie held no ill will to those left in Twin Lakes pack, she knew they were being helpful to their new Alpha, and they were showing remorse, that was enough for her.

They spoke for a few more minutes, going over how they expected tomorrow to go, then ended the call with dave. Cassie turned to Jack, placed a kiss on his lips and whispered, just one more thing and then we can go. She rattled off a text to Brian and within minutes he was knocking on the door.

Jack called for him to enter and Cassie and Jack together walked him through the changes they had made with Dave.

“We are going to be sending a group of 6 warriors, 2 trackers and 1 scout to the same location as your, they will be there as backup only, they will not interact with you unless you need them, they will be close enough that they will hear you call out to them but far enough away to allow you your privacy. If you want to tell Mark you can, if you want to keep it between us we are fine with that too.” Cassie tells Brian, and the relief on his face is obvious.

“If it’s all the same to you, I won’t tell Mark, if he knows there will be no stopping him, I’m still hoping he will hear me before it is too late,” Brian replies.

“Understood,” Jack replies, “The others will be leaving exactly 60 minutes after you, they will, as I said, keep their distance. If something happens and you need them then you are to call out a code word, all of them will be apprised of the situation once you have left and they will also be told this word, nobody outside of this room and those following you will know the word.” Jack’s serious tone has Brian nodding his head in understanding, “We know he wants to do this for us, for your Luna, he will not be punished if he acts, however I agree with you that you should try to prevent him from acting.”Brian nods his head and then Jack discloses the code word that Brian should use if the need arises. “The word you are to use if you need the warriors to assist is ‘Breast’ since we doubt that is a word that usually enters conversations between you and your mate” Jack smirks a little.

Brian blushes at the word but says “Thank you Alpha, Luna, I don’t plan to stop trying to convince him he shouldn’t but should he insist I am grateful to know there will be back up and no repercussions.”

Once they have gone over everything one more time and they are all sure that it has been handled Cassie stands and walks Brian to the door, closing it softly behind him. The silence is only broken by the click of the lock as it snaps into place, Cassie turns to face Jack who has raised an eyebrow in question.

“I thought we were going to bed?”

“If I go to bed now I won’t be able to keep my eyes open for a moment, so I thought we should get the activities concluded here before retiring to bed,” Cassie raises an eyebrow of her own before slowly making her way back to Jack, who has a grin on his face, slowly removing raising her top over her head as she walks.
