Chapter 548 Sending Her Away
Chapter 548 Sending Her Away
She had no clue what Daniel had done or who he had pissed off, and now they were both in a completely helpless situation.
If it were just one group, it might be manageable, but with so many people after them, it was nearly impossible to handle.
Olivia didn't know if Daniel had any leads. To find out the truth, she'd have to wait until he woke up.
Thinking about this, fatigue gradually washed over her. Olivia closed her eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.
As the first rays of morning light entered the hospital room, Maggie was the first to wake up.
She looked at the two people on the bed, so close to each other, and jealousy almost sparked in her eyes.
She had done so much for Daniel, even donating blood despite her own discomfort. Yet, instead of gaining his attention, she had learned about his marriage.
She had waited for so many years, and finally, when they divorced, she thought she had a chance. But Daniel's heart was still firmly with Olivia.
What did she mean to them?
Was she just a joke?
Maggie couldn't help but move closer to Daniel, wanting to observe him more closely.
As she approached, Daniel slowly opened his eyes.
Maggie was startled and instinctively stepped back, but Daniel's gaze didn't even land on her. Instead, he looked tenderly at the woman beside him.
Olivia was curled up under the blanket, sleeping on her side facing Daniel. The sunlight on her face made her look even more beautiful.
Daniel couldn't believe his luck. Waking up to see Olivia's profile was something he didn't even dare to dream of.
All night long, their hands had remained tightly clasped, like the vows they had once made, never to part.
Olivia was still so kind.
Even though she had been deeply hurt, seeing him in danger, she stayed by his side without hesitation, not even willing to let go of his hand.
Daniel felt content, quietly watching Olivia's sleeping face, feeling his heart fill up.
Maggie, feeling completely ignored, decided to approach Daniel.
Just as she was about to speak, Daniel looked up at her with a cold, emotionless gaze and mouthed a sentence. Don't wake her. Leave."
Maggie froze, unsure whether to stay or leave.
Olivia had stayed with him all night, but Maggie had also made her sacrifices!
Feeling wronged, Maggie's eyes filled with tears, but Daniel didn't seem to notice. He didn't give her another glance.
Maggie hadn't expected this outcome after waiting all night. Feeling hurt, she ran out.
After the door closed, Daniel felt the world quiet down.
He greedily watched Olivia's sleeping face, unable to resist the urge to touch her delicate nose.
Olivia's features were so well-defined. The sunlight on her cheeks revealed a fine layer of white fuzz, making her look incredibly cute.
It had been a long time since Daniel had been this close to her. Although they had been intimate before, it was always in dim light, only providing physical and sensory pleasure.
For Daniel, sex wasn't the main thing. As long as she was by his side, everything was fine.
When Olivia groggily woke up, the first thing she saw was Daniel's gentle eyes.
Olivia, used to being alone, was startled to see Daniel and quickly moved back.
She stopped only when she reached the edge of the bed. "You're awake. Do you feel any discomfort?"
The best way to ease the awkwardness was to ask about the patient's condition.
Daniel smiled softly, his eyes gentle as he looked at her. "With you here, even the worst pain is halved."
Where did he learn those cheesy lines?
Olivia gave him a puzzled look and explained, "Yesterday, you didn't want me to leave, so I stayed in the same bed with you."
Daniel didn't move, his voice hoarse but smiling. "Maybe, deep down, I didn't want to let go of your hand either."
When they were dating, Olivia had heard many sweet words, but none were as moving as now.
Olivia tried to hold back her tears, but her voice still trembled slightly. "I heard from Joseph about the surgery. Why didn't you want anesthesia?"
Olivia couldn't imagine how painful it must have been for him to endure the surgery without anesthesia.
Removing the glass shards embedded in his skin required cutting into his back and finding the shards before proceeding.
To ensure nothing was missed, the doctors would check multiple times.
This process was like tearing at his flesh repeatedly, a pain most people couldn't bear.
"Once I was in the operating room, I didn't know if I would survive. If my fate was to die, I didn't want to spend my last moments unconscious. I wanted to see you. With you there, even facing death, I would be at peace."
Daniel reached out, gently brushing Olivia's hair. "I thought it might be our last meeting."
Tears fell unexpectedly. Olivia tried to hold them back but couldn't. She let her emotions take over.
"Am I really that important?"
After saying this, Daniel nodded slightly. "You are very important."
There was one thing Daniel didn't mention. Another reason he refused anesthesia was because of Olivia.
Olivia was allergic to anesthesia.
For most people, surgery was already painful enough, but for Olivia, the pain was magnified several times.
Whether it was childbirth or previous surgeries, she had endured it all without anesthesia, gritting her teeth through the pain.
If Olivia could handle it, how could he not?
Daniel knew his place. He was atoning for his past mistakes, punishing himself for what he had done.
Olivia turned away to cry, not wanting him to see her distress.
"I'm out of danger now. You don't need to stay here. I'll have Wesley take you to the island. Once everything is settled, I'll bring you back."
Hearing this, Olivia instantly got angry. She stubbornly turned around. "I'm not leaving!"
Daniel knew her personality and gently tried to comfort her. "It's too dangerous here. I can't let you stay."
"So you're sending me somewhere safe, but what about you? How is it any less dangerous for you to stay here alone?"
