Chapter 539 Betrayal
Chapter 539 Betrayal
For the next hour, Lila didn't stop cursing Alvin.
Olivia finally couldn't take it anymore and hugged Lila.
"I just don't get it. After everything he's done, why are you still with him?"
Lila's tone suddenly softened, and she looked a bit embarrassed. "It's not that I have to be with him. The problem is, I'm stuck in the same situation as you. He doesn't love me, but he won't let me go."
Olivia understood this all too well. Daniel and Alvin were essentially the same—selfish to the core. But Lila's situation was even worse than hers.
Olivia gently patted her back. "Don't worry, I'll always be here for you."
Given Lila's current state, she couldn't just leave easily. Olivia had to help her escape this painful situation too.
Olivia frowned. "Why didn't you tell me when we met before?"
She had sensed something was off with Lila, thinking it was just a heartbreak or too much overtime. She never imagined it was a miscarriage.
Lila lay weakly on the couch, running her fingers through her curly hair. She sighed, "I've been through so much alone. I'm really tired. I thought about telling you, but I was afraid it would drag you down too."
Lila's thoughts mirrored Olivia's own. They both cared deeply for each other and didn't want to be a burden.
"Did you know, before I found you that day, I was ready to die."
The wind on the rooftop was so cold. If she hadn't heard that Olivia was still alive, she might have jumped.
Lila gently touched her forehead, feeling a wave of sadness. If it weren't for Alvin, her life wouldn't be like this.
Olivia sensed her sadness but spoke directly. "You didn't just call me over to talk, did you? Be honest, you don't want me to leave, right?"
If Lila wanted to talk, she would have said everything the last time they met. She couldn't hold back with her explosive personality.
Lila instinctively denied it. "Of course not..."
"Did Daniel contact you?"
Olivia didn't hesitate much after asking. She was almost certain this was Daniel's plan and was just confirming it with Lila.
"Olivia, what are you talking about? How could he come to me?" Lila closed her eyes guiltily.
Olivia smiled. "We've known each other since we were kids. Do you know how obvious it is when you're lying?"
Olivia finally understood why her dad could always tell when she was lying. When two people know each other too well, they can read the truth in each other's micro-expressions.
Lila's tightly closed eyes twitched. She finally sat up and leaned against Olivia. "You knew I was lying all along?"
Olivia smiled and smoothed her hair. "Silly, I could tell from your tone."
"If you knew, why did you still come?"
Olivia looked at the falling snow outside the window, her voice soft. "Because I was afraid something might really happen to you. I can't bear the thought of losing you."
Lila, moved, hugged Olivia tightly, her eyes red as if she were about to cry. "Olivia, thank you for being so good to me. You're the only one I can rely on."
The two slender girls quietly leaned on each other in the snowy weather.
Olivia was thinking of Lila, and Lila had also thought of her. Though Lila had lied, at least half of what she said was true. She was genuinely afraid of Alvin coming after her.
After a moment of silence, Olivia finally spoke. "What are you thinking? Let me be clear, the only one who can save you now is yourself. Do you still have feelings for Alvin?"
Mentioning Alvin filled Lila's eyes with hatred. She sighed, her voice tinged with sorrow. "I was so busy cursing him earlier. You don't even know how we got together, do you?"
"At first, I didn't know he was intentionally approaching me. Later, I got lost in his handsome face and irrationally got together with him. He gave me all the romance one could dream of in a relationship."
Lila thought of the lavish yacht parties and Alvin's grand gestures with high-value checks. She cared most about money, and meeting a wealthy, handsome CEO like Alvin was irresistible.
"But I was too naive. I thought I found love, but I was just being played."
Lila looked at Olivia with a forlorn expression. "Do you understand? I was just a toy to him."
A person could have many toys, but true love was reserved for the one they cherished most.
"He dared to treat you like that?"
Olivia was furious after hearing Lila's story, wanting to storm into Alvin's office and give him a piece of her mind. But this unbalanced love story had a predictable outcome.
Olivia held Lila's hand. "He might love you, but compared to his feelings, there are more important things in his life, like money, status, and power. He can spare some unimportant things to love you, but he won't risk his future."
Men were always so practical, and Alvin was no different. This story seemed like a prince falling for a commoner, but reality was far crueler than fairy tales. The prince might love the commoner, but he wouldn't make her his queen.
Lila's tears fell silently onto the leather couch.
"It was all my choice. I loved money too much. When we first got together, we agreed our relationship was just a transaction. I didn't dare to give my heart, but somehow..."
Lila still fell for him.
Thinking about what had happened, Lila felt more and more wronged. "We had a simple agreement. As long as neither of us found a better match, we could be a couple. If it came to marriage, he would tell me, and I would leave."
"But he lied to you, didn't he?"
Lila nestled in Olivia's arms, nodding sadly. "I was so stupid to believe his lies. If it weren't for the baby, I would have taken the money and moved to another city. But who knew I'd accidentally get pregnant."
Lila spoke angrily. "His promises meant nothing. He was already planning to get married but kept it from me. I found out from the news."
