Chapter 540 Meeting Daniel

Chapter 540 Meeting Daniel

From an outsider's perspective, Olivia could tell that Alvin had some feelings for Lila, but they weren't deep enough to outweigh the importance of his arranged marriage.

"I don't want to be the despised third wheel. Over the years, I've saved up some money. I wanted to leave this city with the child, but in the end, I lost the baby."

Lila's voice was choked with sobs, and Olivia felt a pang of sympathy. She reached out to pat Lila's back gently in a comforting gesture. "It was Alvin's fiancée, wasn't it?"

Lila nodded, and the thought of the lost child made her cry even harder.

"After losing the baby, I wasn't completely hopeless yet. But then the doctor told me that my fallopian tubes were damaged, and it would be very difficult for me to get pregnant again."

Lila loved children, and losing the ability to have them was a devastating blow.

As Olivia comforted Lila, she also pondered their options for escape.

Alvin and Daniel would definitely team up, and with their combined power, escaping would be nearly impossible.

However, that island could serve as a temporary refuge.

"If you're willing to leave, I'll take you with me."

Hearing this, Lila seemed to find a glimmer of hope and quickly nodded. "I am willing. I don't want to be with Alvin anymore. He'll never marry me, and I don't want to continue being his mistress."

Alvin had given her this spacious apartment, but it wasn't what Lila truly wanted.

She didn't want to be looked down upon with disdain and scorn whenever people mentioned her.

"Alright, I'll help you, but you need to do something for me first."

Lila looked up in confusion, and Olivia's gaze was firm. "I need to meet with Daniel."

When Daniel received the call, he thought Lila had taken care of things. He was surprised to hear Olivia's voice on the other end.

"Daniel, long time no see."

Daniel froze, his voice hoarse. "You know everything?"

"I don't want to discuss this over the phone. Some things are better talked about in person. Come pick me up."

After saying this, Olivia hung up. She knew how important she was to Daniel, and he would drop everything to come to her.

Lila was a bit worried and sighed. "Talk things out properly. Don't hurt yourself again."

Olivia wouldn't do anything foolish this time. This conversation was just to make a clean break with Daniel.

Daniel knew she was alive but never came looking for her, which showed he had changed a bit.

This conversation shouldn't be too crazy.

"Don't worry."

With that, Olivia went downstairs alone.

Two minutes later, a black Bentley pulled up outside. Daniel opened the car door and stepped out from the driver's seat.

"It's cold outside. Get in the car."

The light snow had turned into a heavier fall, making the roads slippery. Olivia walked towards him, smiling faintly. "You didn't have to come out to get me."

"I just wanted to get one more look at you."

After all, it had been a long time since they last met, and who knew when they'd have another chance to be this close again.

Olivia got into the passenger seat. The car was just as it used to be, unchanged.

The little toys she had left in the car were all back in place.

Seeing those familiar stickers made her want to cry.

Everything around her seemed the same, but the two of them could never go back to how they were.

"Where do you want to go?"

Hearing this, Olivia realized Daniel had really changed.

In the past, he would have already chosen a destination without asking for her opinion.

Now, he was more respectful of others.

"Let's go to the restaurant where we had our first date. It's lunchtime, and I'm hungry."

Olivia's idea was simple: Ended the story where it began.

Daniel stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.

Olivia couldn't help but ask, "When did you find out I was still alive?"

She thought her plan had no flaws, at least not until she revealed herself. Daniel shouldn't have known.

In this rare moment of open conversation, Daniel didn't hide anything. "I knew before the funeral."

His intuition was that sharp!

Olivia didn't know what to say. Daniel knew her better than anyone. The funeral was just a charade.

"It wasn't just to make you think I believed you were dead. I wanted to help you."

After Daniel said this, Olivia understood his intentions.

They hadn't seen each other in a long time, but their mutual understanding hadn't faded.

"You wanted those hunting me to think I was dead?"

Daniel didn't respond, which was as good as an admission.

To be fair, Daniel's plan worked. Olivia had a peaceful recovery period without any assassination attempts.

She had to thank Daniel for that.

Even so, Olivia felt a surge of anger.

Her supposedly flawless plan had been seen through, and Daniel had just watched her act, even spreading news of his trip to Africa.

That news was probably fake, too.

"Have you been keeping track of my whereabouts?"

Denying it now would be too fake.

Daniel, not wanting to anger Olivia further, cautiously replied, "I knew, but I didn't want to disturb your life. I just had people secretly protecting you."

Olivia saw Daniel's uneasy expression in the rearview mirror and laughed in exasperation. "Alright, one last question. Is Winston your man?"

If this was all a setup, Winston's presence was particularly odd.

His loyalty was inexplicable, even taking on duties beyond a bodyguard's role.

Olivia always found it suspicious but couldn't catch Winston in the act.

"Yes, he is connected to me."

Daniel didn't dare reveal the whole truth, only admitting part of it.

With the conversation at this point, Olivia's rationality was gone. She wanted to retaliate. "Then you must know what happened between us. We slept together."

The expected rage didn't come. Daniel continued driving calmly, just sighing. "I do know, but that was an accident. He was trying to save you..."

Knowing Daniel, he couldn't have taken this news so calmly.

Unless he had already taken revenge on Winston.
