Chapter 538 I Have One Condition
Chapter 538 I Have One Condition
"Alright, spill it. What's your real motive? If you don't start talking, I'm calling security and reporting you for trespassing."
Once Daniel realized Lila genuinely cared about Olivia, he decided to come clean. "You know Olivia well. She's thinking about leaving again."
"Good for her, getting away from a monster like you."
Lila had seen Daniel's darker side and fully supported Olivia's decision to leave him.
Daniel sighed, a bit exasperated. "Leaving might not be the best idea. I'm not trying to control her, but the situation is complicated. Several groups are after Olivia. If she steps out of my protection, she could be in serious trouble."
Lila had no idea their relationship was this complex. She gave him a thoughtful look. "So, you want me to convince Olivia to stay?"
Daniel nodded. "You might not know what she's been through. Has she told you about the recent events?"
"She mentioned a few things, but I don't know much."
Both of them always tried to spare each other from their pain, never wanting to cause worry.
Olivia was the same, often leaving out the most harrowing details when recounting her past.
"Then you probably don't know that in the past year or two, Olivia has survived several assassination attempts. The most dangerous one was when she was about to give birth."
As he spoke, Daniel's fists clenched involuntarily.
"It was a stormy night. To keep her safe, I sent her to a remote location. But the assassins found her. They sent nearly a hundred hitmen, all with one goal: to kill Olivia."
"She fell into the sea and gave birth to the twins in the middle of the storm. But because of the assassins, she thought the babies were stillborn and had to flee. You know the twins survived, right? If it weren't for the assassins, she wouldn't have gone through all that pain."
Lila knew about the incident.
When she first saw Olivia, she had happily asked if the babies were born, but Olivia had said they were gone.
Lila only knew the basics, not the full extent of the danger Olivia had faced.
She gritted her teeth, wanting to punch Daniel in the face.
"I know it's not your fault, but before she met you, Olivia never faced this much danger."
Thinking about her friend nearly dying multiple times filled Lila with rage. "Who did this?"
"That's the problem. We don't know who hired the assassins, which is why I can't let her leave."
"Honestly, I knew she was alive, but I didn't try to bring her back or imprison her again. I'm not the same person I used to be. Please, you have to help me."
Daniel's eyes were full of pleading. Lila hesitated.
If it weren't for the danger, she would never agree to let Olivia stay with someone so dangerous.
But given the current situation, staying with Daniel might actually be safer.
Olivia might have her reasons for wanting to leave, but Lila couldn't just watch her walk into danger.
Daniel saw the hesitation in Lila's eyes. "She could have stayed safe, but she came back to Majestic City for you. She's been following Alvin these past few days. Lila, consider this a favor. Can you do that?"
Thinking about what Olivia had done, Lila's heart softened. "Fine, I'll help you this time, but I have one condition."
Daniel would agree to any condition if it meant Lila would help.
"Name it."
"You must promise never to hurt her again."
Olivia and Philip were playing until two in the afternoon when she unexpectedly got a call from Lila.
"Olivia, I'm feeling so awful right now. Can we meet?"
Lila's voice was shaky, making Olivia's heart clench. She quickly asked, "What's wrong? Don't cry, just tell me."
"It's Alvin, that bastard. I hate him so much. Olivia, you're the only one I can rely on right now. Can you come over?"
Olivia's heart softened, but she hesitated about meeting up.
Her situation was dangerous, and meeting Lila might draw unwanted attention.
"I'm not sure if I can..."
Before she could finish, Lila started crying again. "I didn't have the courage to tell you the truth before. I need to talk to you and tell you everything."
Hearing Lila's weak sobs, Olivia's heart twisted with concern.
Thinking about Lila's recent loss, she must be in a fragile state.
Olivia couldn't bring herself to refuse. "Okay, I'll come see you."
After getting the address from Lila, Olivia looked at the keys on the table.
Tobias hadn't taken the van this time. She got Philip ready and buckled him into the car seat.
It had been a while since she drove, but she hadn't forgotten how. The car sped towards the destination, arriving at the place Lila and Alvin shared.
The apartment had a great view and was spacious, but Lila looked unhappy.
When Olivia opened the door and hugged her, she realized how much Lila had changed.
Last time they met, Lila was wearing a fur coat that hid her thin frame. Olivia hadn't noticed anything unusual, just that she seemed thinner.
Now, it was clear Lila was more than just thin; she was practically wasting away.
"How could you not take care of yourself while I was gone?"
Olivia choked up, and Lila's eyes glistened with tears. "It's a long story. Let me tell you everything."
They settled on the couch, and Lila handed her a blanket, starting with a rant.
"I must have been blind to fall for a monster like Alvin!"
Olivia wasn't surprised they ended up together. Lila had always been drawn to good-looking men.
She had stayed with Sidney for so long, putting up with everything, just because he was handsome.
As Lila would say, having a good-looking boyfriend was much better than an ugly one.
At least he was easy on the eyes.
