Chapter 54 The family

With an extra person in tow, many household items needed to be bought anew, so the three of them went down to the supermarket together after lunch.

Wythe sat in the shopping cart, pushed by Lambert, while Lydia directed them where to go.

This good–looking family of three attracted quite a few envious glances as they strolled through the aisles.

Observing the attention they were getting, Lambert reached out and hooked his arm around Lydia’s slender waist, causing her cheeks to flush red.

She shot him a glare and swatted away his wandering hand, “Behave yourself, this is a public place!”

Raising an eyebrow, Lambert retorted, “So what? Am I not allowed to hold onto my own wife in public?”

Lydia blushed even deeper, gritting her teeth, “Who said you’re my husband? Stop talking nonsense, or you won’t be going home!”

Lambert sighed with a hint of resignation, “Okay, fine, not yet, but soon enough.”

Surprisingly, Lydia didn’t argue further.

Lambert’s antics had already left her blushing, so she quickly diverted her attention to selecting groceries to hide her embarrassment.

Seeing his mother’s reaction, Wythe gestured to Lambert, who leaned in to listen.

“Dad, you’re going too far with your jokes!” Wythe whispered in Lambert’s ear.

Lambert couldn’t help but smile at his son’s innocence. He gently flicked Wythe’s forehead with his index finger, “Darling, that’s called having fun!”

Rolling his eyes, Wythe conceded.

Adults and their idea of fun were still a mystery to him. But wait, wasn’t Mom looking a bit upset just

now?

But soon, Wythe was too engrossed in a model set to care about the adults‘ antics.

His eager eyes locked onto a model set, unable to ignore his excitement.

Noticing his son’s interest, Lambert immediately grabbed one of each model and placed them in the cart, “If there’s something you want, just tell Dad!”

Wythe hesitated, “But Dad, aren’t you out of a job now? No longer the boss means no money, so we have to be thrifty, right?”

Lambert nearly burst out laughing at Wythe’s adorable concern and thoughtfulness.

He leaned in to whisper in Wythe’s ear, “Darling, even so, I can still provide for you and Mom! I have other

businesses and investments. So don’t worry, if you want something, I can still afford it!”

Wythe blinked his big eyes, “So, being broke and homeless was just a trick to fool Mom?”

“Shh!” Lambert made a hushing gesture, checking Lydia’s position as she focused on selecting fruits.

He then leaned in to Wythe’s ear, “It’s our little secret between men, alright? And, wouldn’t you want Dad

to live with you and Mom?”

“Of course I do, that’s why I didn’t expose you, Dad! Don’t worry, I’ll keep the secret safe!”

“Good boy, thank you!”

So, under the guise of secrecy, Lydia remained oblivious to Lambert’s supposed destitution, while in

reality, he owned several luxurious properties.

Of course, later Lambert entrusted all of this to Lydia, but for now, he kept it hidden to gain her sympathy

and smoothly move in with her!

Finally, the family lived together under one roof!

After purchasing their goods, they returned home from the supermarket.

Wythe couldn’t wait to play LEGO with his dad, while Lydia busied herself arranging the rooms. 1

Once Lydia finished setting up the guest room, she heard occasional voices coming from the game room.

Wythe, “No, this piece should go here!”

Lambert, “Why would it? Clearly, it goes here!”

Wythe, “I don’t believe you, let’s have a competition to see who’s right!”

Lambert, “Alright! But a competition needs a prize. How about using your mom as the prize? The winner

gets to spend a day alone with her, sound good?”

Wythe, “Deal!”

Lydia, unwittingly dragged into the game, smiled helplessly. She hadn’t agreed to this yet!

As Lydia brought some fruit into the game room, she saw father and son sitting cross–legged on the floor, completely absorbed in assembling their models.

Their similar expressions of seriousness and concentration stunned her.

They say serious men are the most charming, but Lydia couldn’t help but find Lambert, playing with their

son, incredibly charming at that moment!

At that moment, Lydia felt her previously empty heart filled. The thought of having a complete family with Lambert and Wythe overwhelmed her with tears, but they were tears of happiness.

Lambert’s slender fingers skillfully assembled the scattered pieces, while Wythe, surprisingly dexterous, followed closely behind with his chubby fingers.

After a while, they each had a model of a cruise ship in front of them, but Wythe fell just short of winning against Lambert.

Lambert picked up the completed model and teased Wythe, who was still working on the last piece, “I win!

“1

Wythe finished the last piece and sighed, flopping back on the carpet, “I lost! Mom is yours!”

Lydia chuckled and went to pick up Wythe, then glared at Lambert, “Are you really competing with your

son at this age?”

Lambert scratched his nose, realizing he might have been a bit childish, but he wasn’t giving up on this

reward!

So, Lambert walked over and hugged both Lydia and Wythe, “What should we do? This is for a day alone

with you!”

Lydia’s ears turned slightly red, she pushed him gently, “Go check your room, see if anything’s missing. I’ll tidy up here and be right there!”

As Lydia took Wythe to wash up and have some fruit, Lambert headed to the guest room.

The room was simple yet cozy. Due to time constraints, they hadn’t added much, just some fresh clothes.

Thankfully, Lydia had already bought a bed and wardrobe earlier; otherwise, Lambert would’ve ended up sleeping on the floor.

The light blue bedsheets had a simple pattern, and the comforter emitted a faint scent of laundry detergent. A small bedside lamp sat on the nightstand, and a neatly folded set of pajamas lay on the bed.

Lambert felt a warmth spread in his heart and instinctively looked towards the door where Lydia entered.

“Anything missing?”

Lambert wrapped his arms around Lydia’s waist and whispered in her ear, “Just one thing.”

Lydia thought for a moment. Hadn’t they bought everything they needed? Even embarrassing underwear shopping was done.

Her ears grew warm at the thought, so she quickly changed the subject, “What’s missing?”

“You.”

Lambert’s words dissolved into a kiss as they embraced.
