Chapter209
“What if I don’t go get it?” Maxwell said right away. “The cooling–off period ended today, but if we don’t pick it up in the next 30 days, it’ll be void. Before we get the divorce certificate. Steph, we’re still married.”
A bolt of lightning tore through the sky, and the thunder rumbled.
“Rumble…”
Soon after, raindrops started falling, pattering against the car window
Stephanie turned her head and looked at him seriously.
There was only sadness in his dark eyes.
His eyes were wet, with a scary red in them.
The two looked at each other, and at that moment, it seemed like they both wanted to see through each other’s hearts.
But their hearts were already far apart, and they just couldn’t see clearly.
“What about her?” Stephanie finally spoke. “Roxanne, isn’t she dying? What about her?”
Maxwell’s eyes flickered a bit, like he didn’t know how to answer. He closed his eyes and leaned back in the car seat.
He opened his eyes and looked at the rain outside, and at the McKayla siblings holding umbrellas, who seemed to be discussing whether to come over here to pick up Stephanie.
Chapter209
“Five months.”
Finally, he said, “Just wait for me for five months, everything will go
back to where it was.
Stephanie didn’t say anything, she just looked at him sadly.
It seemed like he really loved Roxanne.
Over there, McKayla and Patrick had already decided to come pick up Stephanie. The two of them grabbed umbrellas borrowed from the police station and hurried over.
“Bang bang bang!” McKayla knocked on the car door, “Are you guys done talking?”
“Finished talking.” Stephanie said as she went to open the car door.
When Stephanie’s hand was on the doorknob, Maxwell spoke: “Stephanie, do you love me?”
Stephanie looked at him, he was looking at the rain outside the window, not at her.
“Love,” she said.
But that was in the past.
At that point, she had already decided to guard her heart.
She just didn’t need to tell him.
I didn’t want anything unexpected to happen tomorrow, either.
He turned his head and watched Stephanic open the car door and walk
into the rain.
The old team from the Shelton Group was still at the Humphrey Group,

and looking into Elliot’s death also needed some help.
She needed him, needed the Humphrey family.
He believed that five months later, when he told her everything and explained it to her, she would understand.
She loved him, she couldn’t live without him.
Stephanie had already followed the two into the rain.
It rained a lot. Even though I borrowed an umbrella to come over, I still got a bit wet.
“I’ll go get the car.” Patrick said.
McKayla handed over the key.
Patrick went to drive with an umbrella, Stephanie and McKayla stood under the eaves.
Stephanie was shaking the rain off her pants. McKayla looked at her slightly red eyes, thought for a moment, and asked, “What did he say to you?”
“Some stuff from before.” Stephanie replied calmly, “and said he knew about the car accident, explained that he didn’t mean to push me.”
McKayla was a bit anxious: “You’re not going to forgive him, right?”
“Brought up the past with you again, told you it wasn’t on purpose again, Steph, he was so awful! He hurt you so much…”
After Stephanie shook it off, she stood up straight and smiled at McKayla. She patted McKayla on the shoulder, “No way.”
“Tomorrow morning at 9, we were going to get the divorce papers,”

Stephanie said.
McKayla looked closely at Stephanie’s face to make sure Stephanie wasn’t lying, and then she finally relaxed.
McKayla held Stephanie’s hand tightly and said, “You’ve suffered too much with him. Don’t look back for someone who’s not worth it.”
Stephanie felt a little sad. She grabbed McKayla’s hand with her other hand and nodded hard.
“Yeah.”
Patrick drove the car over really fast.
They put the umbrella back in the police station, then quickly got into the car.
On the other side, Edgar also borrowed an umbrella and came over to Maxwell.
“Mr. Humphrey.” Edgar got in the driver’s seat and wiped the rain off himself. “How did the talk with Mrs. Humphrey go?”
But Maxwell didn’t answer, he just looked at the rain outside the car window and said nothing.
He didn’t even know what he was feeling right now.
Seeing this, Edgar didn’t say much either. He just drove the car over, returned the umbrella, and after hearing that the lawyer still had some things to handle, he gave a few instructions. Then he started the car again and drove Maxwell back.
The rain was really heavy, and Roxanne walked around the house.
Since before, she couldn’t get through to her.
