Chapter 198
She lowered her head and looked at the pattern on the table. She said, “I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.”
Maxwell looked down at her.
He wanted to tell her that next, he was going to do something alone, without her by his side.
But he didn’t know how to say it.
She was still mad, didn’t even want to give a nice face.
Forget it.
Maxwell looked away and said, “I went to see Alfonso today.”
Stephanie’s hand paused for a second.
She looked up and looked at Maxwell.
“It’s been five years. He seemed to be doing fine in there,” Maxwell went on. “He even asked me about you.”
“How did you answer?” Stephanie said, trying to hold back.
“I said, you were great, and also, we were getting divorced.” Maxwell answered.
“And then?” Stephanie asked.
“Then he just started laughing,” Maxwell said.
Stephanie gave a mocking laugh.

Put down the utensils, picked up the cup nearby, looked at the sea outside the window, and took a sip.
She said, “So, why did you go see him.”
Maxwell avoided talking about it. Instead, he looked around the suite.
He said, “Remember? Five years ago, the day he lost the case and went to jail, we came here, this was the restaurant.”
The wind blew, there were tiny ripples on the sea, and Stephanie just looked at the ocean.
How could she not remember?
It’s been five years.
That was the day she really escaped that demon.
Seven years ago, after Maxwell got her out from under Alfonso, he found out who Maxwell was and laid low for a while.
But later, I gradually stopped caring.
“Stephanie, you thought I didn’t know?”
“Mr. Humphrey didn’t even like you at all, he was just messing around with you.”
What kind of family was “the Humphrey family“? What kind of family were you from? Stephanie, did you think you were still the old “Ms. Shelton“?

Chapter198
“Starting this month, give me money every month!”
One humiliation after another, asking for money and stuff again and again, and it just got worse.
Until that day five years ago, it was raining. She dropped by to see her mother, only went in after making sure Alfonso wasn’t home, but her mother wasn’t there either.
Then, Alfonso, who had drunk a lot, came back from outside.
She saw things were going south and wanted to leave, but he caught her.
He asked her for money, but the money from selling her songs was still being processed and hadn’t arrived yet.
“Weren’t you with Mr. Humphrey? Didn’t you say he liked you? Tell him to transfer you money, now!”
“Alfonso, I told you, I wasn’t gonna ask him for money for you. Money, I would earn. You wait… ah!”
Before she could finish, Alfonso grabbed her hair and slammed her forehead hard against the door on the side.
Blood came out right away.
“What are you being so aloof about?”
“You said you didn’t ask Mr. Humphrey for money, didn’t that mean you just went and sold it?”
“I didn’t!” Stephanie screamed and struggled.
Alfonso held Stephanie’s head and spat, “Bah! You still wanted to act all pure and proud in front of Mr. Humphrey? Stephanie, it’s been two

years, but I heard you were just his simp?*
“Let go of me!” Stephanie kept struggling
But Alfonso’s hand held on really tight, yanking her head again and again, banging it against the door and the floor.
She bit his hand hard with all her strength, he let go in pain, and she scrambled out.
But blood blurred her eyes, she couldn’t see the road clearly, she ran around and took out her phone, wanting to call someone.
“You bitch, bite me, see if I don’t beat you to death!”
Her phone got thrown out hard because of Alfonso.
“Last time he came to save you, what about this time?”
“Call out twice? Call Maxwell and see if he’ll come save you?”
“Ha, what are you crying for? You knew he wasn’t coming back, right!”
“Stephanie, I told you, from the moment your mom married me, you were no longer a Shelton, you were part of the Murphy family.”
“Stephanie, you couldn’t escape this your whole life!”
The rain got heavier, and tears mixed with blood.
She was in so much pain she could barely breathe.
She hated that feeling of not being able to fight back, and hated herself for not doing enough.
After drinking, Alfonso was really strong, and every time he slammed her head to the ground, he did it really hard.
