Chapter 98

He felt sorry for her. His gaze upon her bleak face was remorseful. He…he… just hopes he never really did anything fishy with her that night. Now he was curious about the DNA result. Though excitement was burning inside of him, inflicting uneasiness, he couldn't wait to see the result.

He just can't. Not when Elodre is like death warmed up. No…not when she's gone through this full-blown trauma. He sure knows how commanding and rough his brother can get sometimes. The marks on her body and face indicate how rough Cayden had been on her.

Oh damn!

**********

A couple of days later…

All trembling on the hospital colt, Elodre was in a clean white gown whose short sleeves were folded to her shoulders due to the bunch of cannulas on her arms and neck. She still had that big bandage wrapped around her forehead. Her stringy blond hair was packed backward.

She wasn't looking any better. She’d drastically trimmed down and her cheekbones were slightly visible. She'd refused to eat lately and has been whining about her husband which gives Doctor Maximiliano a pretty hectic time.

Her right eye was still swollen and hurting. Since the night Cayden sunk his hard sharp elbow into her stomach while he was roughly getting into her organ, she's been feeling drastic burning pain in her stomach. He’d hurt her pretty bad…and it was much worse now. Once the memory of that night was evoked in her head, she began to whimper.

The door opened and Doctor Maximiliano Lane emerged with an envelope in his hand. “Hey dear…how are you faring?”

But Elodre's heart had leaped to her throat and her bewildered eyes were fixed on that envelope. That must be the DNA result!! She thought in terror as burning tears welled up in her eyes.

She shot a gaze at the doctor but just couldn't read his expression. She could hear the deafening sound of her rapid heartbeat whacking right in her eardrums, coupled with a drastic headache and whirling sensation in her head…her sights darkened as voidness filled her head.

“Ma'am?” Doctor Maximiliano ran to her, all curious. “Ma'am?!! Hey! Elodre!! Dammit!”

He swiftly caught her head so that she didn't fall off the bed. She just fainted!! Damn! Oh my God!

A few days later…

Maximiliano Lane had started figuring out who Cayden was with his laptop. His whole information popped up on the screen and he read through it while in his office.

Raiden had been brought and was taken care of.

Looking as pale as a ghost, Elodre was lying on the hospital colt when Doctor Maximiliano Lane walked in wearing a grin on his face but that even heightened her panic. She assessed him closely. He wasn't with an envelope this time.

“Glad you're better now, Mrs. Brooks!”

Wait…Mrs. Brooks?! Did he just address her as Mrs. Brooks? It's been like forever…she hadn't been addressed like that.

“How are you feeling?” He touched the bandage on her head.

“Worse,” She said faintly. “Doctor Lane…what did the result say?” Curiosity was gleaming in her eyes.

For some reason, he smiled and shook his head. “I know that's why you fainted.”

She sighed.

“But I'd prefer you see for yourself, ma'am,” He said. “Promise you won't faint this time.”

“I won't faint, I promise…” She said. God knows she'd faint the moment she set her eyes on the envelope.

“Good,” He said. “Gimme a sec!” He got out of the room.

He left and came back in a couple of minutes. Beholding the brown envelope in his hand, Elodre's heart leaped to her throat and was whacking ferociously. Her anxieties hitched and she felt a burning sensation in her cheeks as she flushed ruddy.

“D…doctor, Lane…is it promising?” She quivered.

Shrugging, he put the envelope on her trembling hands but it flew off. She was just too shaky and frightened to handle anything at the moment.

“Hey, ma'am,” Doctor Lane smiled down at her. “Just chill out.”

Heated with burning pressure, a bitter blend of curiosity and fear swept up her body as she slipped out the DNA result from the envelope. Her teeth chattering, her lips were trembling terribly and tears were stinging her eyes already.

“Try to not mess up the sheet, ma'am,” Doctor Max Lane's soft voice crammed into her ears and she wiped the tears off with her palm.
