Chapter 99

Her watery gaze darted as she read through and she felt her bones crushing as her eyes widened. Her heart and muscles were ripping into pieces in her body. Fever sparked in her chest, soaring up to her cheeks as she reddened, compelling goosebumps on her skin as cold sweat began to seep from her forehead and back. “D…doctor…L…Lane…” She quivered, followed by an outburst of a cry.

“Take it easy, ma'am,” He reached for her shoulder and parted her. “I'm sorry you had to go through all of these roller coasters when you're…”

“W…what about Weston?” She asked shakily, lifting her gaze upon him.

“He said he'd be traveling to Paris,” Doctor Maximiliano said. “And he must have gone already.”

Elodre was so broken. She can't believe her eyes. Tossing the sheet on a chair beside the colt, she buried her face in the pillow and wept bitterly and Doctor Maximiliano Lane couldn't help but gaze at her.

This is so unbelievable! Weston isn't Raiden's dad?!! She wept. She's innocent! She's been innocent all the while…b…but Cayden…

Elodre couldn't hold back the cry. Her whole body was shaking as she was weeping. “Oh…C…Cayden…”

“It's okay, ma'am,” Maximiliano said, not knowing how to comfort her. With both hands on his waist, he stood watching her with emotions gleaming in his eyes. He can't believe this either. So the lady was innocent. Oh, poor lady. “I'm happy for you, Elodre…congratulations!! I…just wonder how to connect with your husband. I've texted him multiple times…but he ain't responding.”

“H…he won't listen to you…” Elodre said unsteadily.

“Nah, I didn't inform him about the DNA test.” Doctor Maximiliano said. “But don't worry I'll take the bull by its horn.”

“God knows my husband will kill you the moment you mention me to him,” Elodre whimpered, sniffling. “Just so you know, my husband is the most feared man in California. N…no one dares get him enraged.”

“I know, ma'am,” Doctor Maximiliano said. “But I gotta try. You can't just remain like this. I'm sure he'd cool off once he realizes you're innocent.”

“D…doctor Lane…” She sobbed.

“Do not worry, ma'am,” Maximiliano said.

A week later…

With a fierce grimace, Cayden was engrossed in his laptop. Shortly, the door opened and his secretary, Kate emerged and shut the door mildly. With a lowered gaze, she quietly walked across the room to his table. “M…Mr. Brooks…one Maximiliano Lane wishes to speak with you…”

“Who's he?!” He grumbled without looking at her.

“He s…said h…he's a doctor.” She stuttered. He looked pretty wild and she couldn't help the fright.

Cayden seemed oblivious for a while, all focused on the laptop screen. Soon, he tore a glare at her. “What the hell are you still waiting for, huh?!!” He yelled at her. “Get lost!”

Flinching away from him, Kate flushed red as she stumbled a few steps backward and left the office.

In a few seconds, Maximiliano entered the office and upon seeing Raiden with him, Cayden's brows furrowed. His eyes were blazing with anger.

“Grand rising, Mr. Brooks!” Doctor Maximiliano said as he walked to Cayden's table but Raiden seemed scared and had withdrawn his hand from Max's.

This dude is a tough guy. Maximiliano was fascinated by how ripped Cayden was. He was as fit as a fiddle. Damn! He's such a charming young man. Max thought.

“Who are you?!” Cayden asked roughly.

“I’m Doctor Maximiliano Lane from…”

“What the hell do you want?! What?!!” Cayden roared, huffing in rage.
