Chapter 22 He lies, She let's him, He watches
"Ha! " She exclaimed softly, and flipped the note over. The material of the note were pretty expensive, and like nothing you would find in an ordinary gift shop.
Who could have sent such an odd note? And why is it under the hospital bed? Isn't it a farewell gift to her father? And who is A.P?
The later was suddenly snatched from over her shoulder, and she turned to her dad in confusion as he tore up the note without saying anything which made Miley even more curious.
"Should you be doing that?" She asked, and Teddy paused. He had his bagpack slung on one shoulder, the injured one.
"It's nothing important just someone I know" He replied, and walked out the ward, and Miley followed.
"Then if it's from someone you know why did you tear it?" She asked while running to keep up with her father's long legged strides.
"it's nothing" He said his jaw was clenched, and his expression was dark while looking forward. Luckily, Miley couldn't see the change in his expression or she would have run for the hills. There's just so much that she didn't know about her dad, and Teddy was planning on keeping that way.
"Okay, then who's A.P...."
"Miley!" He snapped at her, and turned to her which made her flinch"I said its nothing. When I say it's nothing, it means nothing. That note was some that received from work so stop meddling in my work "He yelled at her.
Miley stood in the middle of the corridor with her dead who was breathing loudly as he was suppressing his anger which he was doing a shitty job at.
Teddy rarely raised his voice at her, and this definitely caught her of guard. She felt a lump on her throat and she blinked back tears, before walking away leaving him to the mercy of the guilt train.
Teddy sighed loudly "Miley" He called her name already feel like crap. He ran after her, but she didn't acknowledge him.
Miley was no crybaby but there is only a handful of people in fact only one person who can turn her her into one. She wiped tears with the back her hand, and sniffed.
"Miley! Princess!" But she kept walking away without looking back "Miley!" He called again but nope, no response.
Teddy rushed in front of her and grabbed her shoulder to stop her walking away. Miley looked at everywhere except his face which made her father sigh.
"Bug.. I'm sorry... It's just that had a rough two days, but us no excuse....." She walked away from him half way through his apology.
Teddy watched his daughter walk away feeling regretful, and guilty he followed her in silence.
They reached the parking area were an Uber which Miley had requested for a while back was parked, and waiting they both got in.
The Uber started the car, and drove out the parking area. Miley looked out the window refusing to look at her father's face. She sniffed, and folded her arms like a child throwing a tantrum.
Teddy sighed "Miley?" But she ignored him" Miley I'm sorry. It's just that note was from someone from work, in fact the note is work related. It's just a note from a colleague, and he had brought be some Lilies so the note was just a way to tell me to get well" He aid, which earned him a scoff.
"If it's that the case then why did you snap at me?" She mumbled.
Teddy clenched his jaw. Just as he had thought she doesn't believe him, this was why he hadn't want to talk about the note. He knew the she wasn't gonna fall for his lies, she was his daughter after all.
" But, I'm not gonna push it "She said, and turned to look at him with teary eyes" Just don't get hurt again "She added and Teddy had to fight the urge to sigh in relief.
Like he had she was his daughter she was smart to know when to not meddling into his work life. And he himself wished to keep his family as far away from this as possible.
Aleksei definitely wouldn't hesitate to use his family, his weakness to threaten or make his drop the case. He had done his homework and knew about the boy's way of dealing with these kinds of problems.
She leaned back on her seat which her eyes still folded" I'm hungry "She mumbled which didn't fail to make Teddy chuckle.
" I'm sure that we'll find something to eat at home"He replied but Miley didn't say nor react.
She just placed her head on his shoulder, and closed her eyes.
Aleksei sat in office, and watched the footage of Miley arguing with her friend in her room for the sixteenth time with a smirk on his lips.
This girl knew how to stir him up, and drive him craze. Despite her small frame she was just so feisty. She clearly disliked him for a reason olny known to her. He would have thought it's because of their first meeting in the aisle that night, but he had a feeling that she didn't remember him.
He rewind the video and watched it again for good measure. His smirk grew wider at the idea at getting to see her everyday even if she can't see him.
He had wanted to have a glimpse of her private life so he had a camera instoleed in her room in the morning when she stepped out.
Unfortunately, she wasn't around so he couldn't watched any live footage.
"Boss" Travis entered his office and stopped at the door way before bowing. "Teddy Blackwell and his daughter just left the hospital" He informed him, and Aleksei waved him away.
His eyes met with his phone, and he smirk.
"Wait" Travis immediately paused, and turned around.
"There's something I wish for you to do for me" He said, his eyes still on the video playing.
Miley walked out the kitchen with two plates of spaghetti and meatballs. She placed one in front of her father on the dinner table before placing hers down next to him.
They both started eating in silence, the sound of forks against plates echoed the room.
Teddy felt a bit uncomfortable in the silence. He knew she was still upset about his outburst but he just wasn't used to being in the same room as his daughter and them not talking at all.
"So.." He spoke "How is med school? Anything new in you life?" He asked.
Miley didn't look up from her food and continued to eat. Teddy almost thought that she was gonna ignore him but to his relief she replied softly.
"Nothing much. The real challenge will start next where I'll be wearing scrubs, and attention to actually real client" She shrugged "A bit nervous but overall nervous" She added.
Her father smiled at her. Being a doctor has always been her dream ever since she was just six and him, and his wife supported her in any way they could. And see her today anly a few months away from being a full pledged doctor makes his happier then anything in the world.
"Oh, and I'm going on a date with this guy on Friday" She said, and the smile on Teddy was gone replaced by a frown.
