Chapter 876 Chapter 876
When he got back down to the house Nyssa had been carried into, everyone was still inside it.
Kevan looked relieved he was back. “I tries to tell about Alliance, but the words no–” He waved his hand around.
Foster grinned. “I’ll explain.”
“Yes. Good.” Kevan moved over to the door and stood there with his arms crossed over his chest.
Foster looked to see Nyssa was looking much better now. “I just spoke to the prince and princess…”
“The shifter prince and princess? Do we have a king and queen still?” Betty asked.
“We do.” Foster realized how out of touch they had been. “Devin, the prince, is sending people here to help fix the buildings.” He looked around and saw so many patched-up corners and fixtures; he wondered if it was safe for this many people to be in it. “Rayne, the princess is sending—” he grinned. “—enough supplies and things that it’s going to be like a department store landed here.”
“We can’t pay for all that.” Savan crossed his arms over his chest.
“You don’t have to pay for all of that.” He looked at Heidi. “The prince wanted to relocate all of you, and I said I thought you might like to stay…”
Heidi nodded. “If we were going to leave, we would have.”
“Right. So that now makes you a clan under the protection of the Alliance and—” he glanced around at all of them and noticed Ena stood out of the way watching all of them. “The alliance looks after their own.”
“So you’re going to fix our homes and buy us stuff. No strings?” Harland looked at Zach, and then they both turned to Foster.
“Pretty much.”
Betty looked at Heidi. “Orson was right.”
Heidi nodded and had a smug look on her face. “Of course he was.” She turned and looked at Kevan and then back to Foster. “Are you going to go get Orson?”
“We are.” He looked at Ena. “We have to meet some team members, but I’ll be leaving some phones and if you need anything in the meantime, you call.”
“Team members?” Savan looked skeptical.
“Yeah.” He blew out a breath. “For months now, the alliance has been shutting down locations that have been abducting shifters—” He looked at Kevan. “From everywhere.”
“So, it’s true?” Nyssa adjusted her leg on the chair and turned so she could look at him. “That some of them we thought took off may have been taken?”
“It’s very likely.”
“They have books to tell of names,” Kevan said.
Foster caught a few of the expressions saying they didn’t understand what he was saying. “These people keep records, so we may be able to trace some of your clan to where they were taken.”
“You think some of them would be alive?” Ena’s expression was sad.
“It is possible.” He thought of Calum’s mother. “One of the men that work for the Alliance lost his mother when he was a kid. We found her a few months back, alive.”
Betty nodded. “That would be a good thing to get some of ours back.” She looked over at Heidi. “We used to be a clan of fifty.” She moved her hand around. “And now we’re this.”
Foster held his breath for a moment. “I hope we find more.” He cleared his throat. “Some of the people that are coming to help you rebuild were held by sadistic people for years. They’re physically okay now, but they need to be somewhere peaceful and need to feel useful.” No one spoke. “I told Devin, if there are any coyote clans on that list, to send them here to be with the like clan.”
Zach nodded. “It would be nice to help them while they help us.”
Foster was starting to like him. “Exactly. I’ll know later when some will arrive. My team leader, Jesse, and his mate, Leah—” he decided not to try to explain Leah and Evanna. “—will be here in the next day or so. She was the sole survivor of her clan until we found some abducted, so she understands what you’ve been through.”
“She must be a strong one.” Betty nodded. “Is she coyote?”
He shook his head. “Leopard clan.”
“That might be something new to see.” Heidi smiled.
Foster turned and looked at Kevan. “In the blue case in the van are phones. Can you get two?”
Kevan nodded and opened the door.
Foster looked at Ena and then at her aunt. “I have other supplies. Maybe you and Betty could come take a look and see if you need any of them?”
The older women exchanged a look.
“I’ll get my coat,” Betty said.
Ena was smiling now. “I’m coming back with you?”
Foster nodded. “The prince and princess want to speak to you when we get back to the motel.”
Her eyes widened, but she nodded. “Okay.” She went over to Nyssa, leaned down, said something to her, and then looked at Foster. “You make sure Nyssa gets a phone.”
“Sure.” He looked around at the others.
“If you need me, you call Nyssa, and I’ll come help,” Zach said.
Foster sucked in a breath. He wanted to say no, but he still didn’t know how many were coming. “I will.”
Savan even nodded to that. “My number is on the side of my truck. If someone can let us know when these people and supplies will be here, that would be good.”
Foster smiled. “Rayne will make sure there is constant communication.”
“I feel bad we doubted Orson,” Harland said while looking at Savan.
“Orson is why we’re here. He called the Alliance, and then Ena did when Orson disappeared.” He wanted to say something about them having to have an Alpha to be in the Alliance but decided that was not in his job description.
Kevan came back in and held out two phones. “I go to walk to road. Is good time of day to see if Nicklaus answer his phone. Lars worry of him and is needing to be silent for days.”
Foster caught about half of what he meant. “Okay, we’ll pick you up at the road.”
“Yes.” Kevan looked around the room. “Is good to see you peoples.” He walked out.
“What is his story?” Savan asked.
Foster chortled. “There are nine or ten of them from other countries—” he glanced at Ena. “It’s worse there than here. They help shifters get out of the country, and a lot of them come here to North America. They’re here to help us, and when we’re done with the organizations here, we’re going to help them in their countries.”
“He’s a bit scary,” Nyssa said.
Foster nodded. “Some of the others are more than scary, but they’re on our side, and that’s all that matters.”
Zach stepped forward and held out his hand. “Thank you, Foster.” He glanced at Nyssa. “I’m feeling something I haven’t felt in years.” He grasped his hand and shook it. “Hope.”
Foster felt like someone was squeezing his throat. “Just doing my job.” He cleared his throat and looked at Ena. “Let’s help your aunt and then get going.”
She nodded.
