Chapter 851 Chapter 851
Oryn sat in the seat and looked over at Uri. He was asleep. It was almost dawn. She’d slept most of the night. When was the last time she could do that? Before Kenric destroyed her world. She hadn’t been able to sleep since then. Every time she closed her eyes, she worried about the kids and someone finding them. She looked out the window. The kids. Had they called? She looked at his phone in the holder. She didn't even know how to check that. Her small clan hadn’t been all about technology. Turning, she looked back at the man who had changed everything. He would have let her know if he’d heard anything from them. She didn’t know how she knew that, but she did. He was different than anyone she’d ever met.
There was something about him she couldn’t quite identify, but even her bird was okay with him, and that wasn’t normal. Maybe it was that relief that the kids were going to be safe that had her owl trusting him. Had she ever trusted any males other than her father and brother? She didn’t think so. The males her age spent most of the time wanting to shift and fly with her to see if they were her mate. She didn’t care to find out. If she couldn’t stand them in two-legged forms, she wasn’t going to magically fall in love with them once they were in the air. Not once had her owl objected to her refusals, so she’d taken it as a sign that none of her clansmen were her ‘forever mate’.
She looked over at Uri again. She really needed to go to the bathroom but didn’t want to move and wake him. Their hearing was incredible, but even when not covered in feathers, they heard more than a normal human would. Normally, they’d have to focus on doing it when their bird was on the inside, but he was like her and didn’t have the luxury of sleeping in a safe, quiet space. He probably heard everything when resting like she did. Except for the sleep she’d just woken from, but being exhausted for a year had won that battle.
“You can open the door. I’m awake.”
She almost jumped out of her skin. She turned to see his eyes were still closed. “Sorry if I woke you.” She whispered.
“You didn’t.” He turned his head and looked at her. “I only sleep a few hours at a time because of my job.”
She nodded, even though she didn’t fully understand what that meant.
“Try to stay close. I only parked here to rest. As soon as you’re back, we’ll move.”
Oryn nodded and opened the door and got out quickly.
The air was damp, telling her that they were close to the water. She couldn’t wait to see how Uri observed Kenric’s property. With all the gear he had, it was going to be better than how she’d been doing it, she already knew that.
With the weather changing, she was worried Kenric would be more active, and they might miss him leaving. Did she mention that to Uri? She wasn’t sure about how open he was to suggestions.
Finding a spot, she looked around to make sure she wasn’t standing in someone’s backyard. She didn’t want to be gone too long. She didn’t want to miss anything.
Before she fell asleep, she’d decided that she would see how today went before she made the decision to take a chance and kill Kenric Castro the moment she had a clear shot. The Alliance was welcome to the others, they had only followed the orders of the one man who had to die.
