The Accident part II

“Hi, is Cassy there?” the person asked, and at the same moment I recognized the voice of Zac's mother. Hadija.

“Hadija? Something's happened.” I ask as I approach the entrance to the house, but she turns her attention back to her cell phone "What's up, Joseph?" I ask my ex-father-in-law, and he smiles politely. I invite them in, while my friend goes to get us some tea to drink.

“Of course, Cassy.” he says as he enters, and touches his wife's shoulder, who focuses her attention on me.

“Cassy darling, tell me something,” she says and I mumble a yes. "Did Zac come here?" says Hadija and just the mention of his name makes me sick.

“He came earlier, we had a fight, or rather I had a fight with him and then he left,” I say and she nods.

“No, I know that. I'm talking about tonight.” she asks and I find that strange.

“No, he hasn't come back here,” said Athalia, and handed us tea accompanied by cookies.

“Thank you.” Joseph thanks her.

“Didn't he try to call you?” she insists and I deny it.

“Not once, did something happen, Hadija?” I ask and she sighs.

“Maybe Joseph's right, and I'm being paranoid,” she says and smiles.

“You don't have to worry, Zachary can handle himself,” said the man, "He must be with a friend." He added, and put his cup on the table.

“Zac left so dazed that it gave me a bad feeling and there are times when my son doesn't show a sign of life.” I looked at her intently, because I also had that same feeling. Had something happened? No, if it had, we'd all know about it by now, wouldn't we?

Just as Joseph was about to speak, Hadija's cell phone started ringing and she smiled with relief.

“It's Zac, thank God,” she says and then picks up the phone ”Hello? My son, where have you been? It's almost midnight...” she's confused for a moment ”What? Yes, I don't understand... My son?” my ex-mother-in-law's eyes fill with tears, my heart starts to skip a beat "Oh my God...," she looks at Joseph ”Sir, that's not true... It can't be true... In which hospital...” when I heard the word hospital come out of her lips, I froze instantly and fell onto the sofa.

“Hadija, what happened? What do you mean hospital?” Joseph asked in anguish.

“Oh Joseph,” she says as she puts the device back in her bag and sits down. Hadija puts her hands to her face and her tears come down like a waterfall “I knew it, a mother's instinct is never wrong,” she sobs “Our boy was in a car accident and they've been trying to contact us for almost an hour.

“Oh my God...” I started crying immediately.

“Calm down, Cassy.” Athalia says as she hugs me.

“It's all my fault,” I say.

“No, honey, it's not your fault. You should know that Zac loved you and wanted to make amends for what he did. He just wanted to win you back and he was coming here,” said Hadija as she held my hands.

“You see? All the more reason why it's my fault,” I said, crying.

“No Cassy, Zac should have come straight here. The place where they found him is a long way from here, it was in another neighborhood. Something must have happened and he had to take another route,” said my ex-mother-in-law.

“My wife is right, it's not far from our house to yours, no more than 40 minutes, Zac has certainly gone to do something else,” said Joseph and I nodded.

“Are you going with us to the hospital?” asked Hadija.

“You can go ahead, I'm going to take a shower and I'll be there soon. Just leave the address, and I'll let his friends know too.” I ask them, and they nod.

“Sure, I'll forward it to you by message.” She picks up her cell phone again and types something, then I hear mine beeping, telling me I have a new notification.

Athalia was going to accompany me, so she ran to get dressed too. I took a quick shower and put on some comfortable clothes for the cold night, then went downstairs. Right away I saw Austin coming out of the kitchen with a glass of juice in his hands. I ran up to him and hugged him.

“Did you miss me that much?” he says jokingly.

“Why have you been gone all day?” I say and move away from him.

“I was with Kiley, I went for an ice cream and missed her,” he says and shrugs his shoulders "Hey, what's wrong?" he asks as he looks at my face, which is probably swollen from crying so much.

“Zac had an accident and he's in hospital,” I tell him "His parents left here a little while ago, I was going to tell all his friends by text," I say and Austin takes a while to process the news.

“What? How did this happen?” asks my cousin and I bite my lip.

“Hadija said he went out to try and talk to me, but when she noticed he wasn't talking, she came here,” I tell him.

“Has anything else happened that I don't know about?” my cousin asks, and I know I can't hide things very well from him.

“Zac and I broke up,” I say.

“What?” he looks at me in surprise.

“I caught him in bed with Mandy earlier today, and I broke up with him,” I shrug "I'm fine, don't worry." I try to reassure him and he rolls his eyes.

“I knew he'd make a mistake, it's in the character of that fucking asshole! I warned you Cassy, damn it, are you really all right?” he asks and touches my cheek, I give him a sideways smile.

“I will be, don't think I'm that weak,” I say and place my hand over his.

“Cassy, shall we go?” I hear Athalia's voice. "Boy, you're not easy, have you taken another one?" she jokes as she sees how close I am to Austin and I laugh.

“Athalia, this is Austin, my cousin. And Austin, meet Athalia, my best friend since forever.” I smile at her and hold out my hand, my friend walks over to me and smiles warmly.

“She doesn't know what her life would be like without me,” jokes the brunette "Nice to meet you Austin, Cassy always talks about you," she looks my cousin up and down "I just didn't tell her you were that handsome," she says and I laugh again, she wasted no time.

“Nice to meet you Cassy, it's really nice to finally meet you,” he says staring at Athalia, and I swear I can hear all the naughty thoughts in his mind.

“You can forget it, Austin, you've got a girlfriend,” I cut him off, who looked at me irritated ”Can we go now? Even with everything that's happened, I need to know how he's doing.” I caught both of their eyes, and they agreed.

On the way to the hospital, I sent a message to all our friends, telling them what had happened to Zac. After that, I left my cell phone on silent, because it soon started ringing and at that moment I didn't want to answer anyone. While Austin was driving, he asked about his mother, I explained to him that Aunt Alicia was on call today, and I took the opportunity to ask if it was okay for my friend to spend some time with us, and of course, with a mischievous smile on his face, my cousin said that it would be the greatest pleasure of his life to have someone so beautiful in his house. I rolled my eyes and told him to control the stick he had between his two legs.
