Chapter 235 Getting better
My arm felt colder, like it is slowly getting frozen, but I didn't want to move. I tried to glance at her, but she looked like sleeping. I sighed. I wanted to sleep by myself, but I was still worried to fell asleep. Walter was in the near, and I didn't want her to meet him. Even if he said he would go home for the night, I worried that if I fall asleep, Olivia would sneak out to see him.
I tried to focus on the ceiling; I tried to close my eyes for a minute, but it was even harder to stay awake. Even if I was sleeping a lot recently, I felt like I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I glanced at her again, making sure she was sleeping, and I let my eyes close once more. However, this time I didn't open them up again. I fell asleep. I wasn't dreaming. My sleep was absolutely calm. Only my arm felt cold, but in my sleeping I didn't feel that too disturbing. I knew that meant Olivia was next to me.
I slept soundly. However, I soon regained consciousness, and I was back in real life again. I felt the comfortable mattress under me, and I felt the nice warmness that the light quilt gave me. I wanted to enjoy this good feeling a little longer, but one thought got into my mind. My arm didn't feel cold anymore.
I opened my eyes suddenly, and as I wanted to move my head, I felt a horrible pain. I have forgotten about my injuries. But even if my bones ached badly, my heart pounded faster as I realised Olivia disappeared.
"Olivia!" I tried to speak, and this time I was able to whisper at least. I felt my throat was still sore, but I wanted to have her next to me.
"Olivia!" I repeated myself, but there was no movement in the room, and sadly, I couldn't smell her intoxicating scent.
That made me nervous. Like where she could be? Could that be my imaginations were right, and she indeed got back together with Walter? I could hear the machine demonstrating my rapid heart beating.
However, as the machine showed that, the door opened up, and finally, I could smell the familiar scent that could always make me calm.
"Asher! What happened?" She rushed to the bed, but she chacked the screen first. I tried to shake my head.
"I just had a bad dream." I lied, and just then I realised she wasn't alone in the room.
I slightly turned my head to see my son standing next to my bed as well.
I didn't know if I was away for so long, or that was still my imagination, but he looked like he was taller, and somehow he also looked older, as well.
"Dad! How do you feel?"
He whispered, and his expression showed fear.
I smiled at him.
"Much better." I whispered. Only then his expression changed, and he stepped closer to me to hold my hand.
"I'll give you some water." I heard Olivia, so I turned my head towards her. She poured some water in a paper cup, and she put a straw in it. For a moment, I felt really embarrassed that she needed to help me drink, but I couldn't help it.
After she let me drink, I felt much better. My throat wasn't dry any more, and my voice started to come alive again.
Aiden pulled a chair next to my bed and just sat down. He didn't let my hand go, but he just sat there quietly. Olivia, after putting the paper cup down on the bedside table, did the same. They sat next to me, and we remained quiet for a little while.
"Mummy, had he had breakfast?" Aiden whispered to his mother.
"No, not yet, but I asked Irene to bring some for him. She should be here soon." She answered Aiden, who only nodded at her.
We didn't need to wait too long. Irene walked in, pushing a trolley.
"I got breakfast for all of you." She smiled at me first, then she smiled at the others as well.
Olivia stood up and leaned closer to me. She helped me sit up gently. Irene put the tray in front of me, then she rushed back to the trolley for another, which she gave to Aiden. Then she held a paper cup with a lid on, which she gave to Olivia. She smiled, but that wasn't an honest smile. Like she didn't want to drink it in front of us.
We thanked her, and she left with a smile on her face.
Olivia put the paper cup down on a table, and she moved to me.
"Do you want me to help you?"
I looked at her, then I shook my head.
"No, my hands are okay." I said, and I was happy to realise my voice was even better.
I took the fork, and I started to eat. I knew Olivia ordered this breakfast for me, as it was made exactly as I liked it.
When both of us finished, she took the trays and put them back on the trolley.
"Aren't you thirsty?" I asked her, but she shook her head.
"I will drink it soon." She said, and her answer made me feel that I was right when I thought she just didn't want to drink it in front of us.
"Mummy, you can go out. I can stay here with dad," he said, but Olivia shook her head again.
"No need, darling. I am okay."
Aiden sighed, and he looked at me.
"I can't wait for you to get well enough, so we can go home."
I smiled.
"I will do my best, Aiden."
However, Olivia sighed. "Aiden, even if daddy will get better, we can't go back to the farm."
What she said made my chest hurt. What did she mean again?
"I can't see why. Walter can come there as well." He said, which was another kick into me.
"We can't expect him to come there so often. He is working here. He has duties as well." She argued with him quietly, but in a second, both of them turned to watch the screen suddenly, when it demonstrated my rapid heartbeat again.
