Chapter 234 Is she still my mate?
Are you in pain? She asked me. "I can give you painkillers every four hours. You just got one, but if you are still in pain, I can put you back to sleep."
What she said scared me, actually. I was in the dark for so long. I didn't want to get back in there. I tried to move my head, and I think I have managed to shake it a little. I closed my eyes for a moment and hoped she understood me. She sighed. Then she caressed my face again.
"Not long now, and I can give you something to drink."
I closed my eyes only for a second again, just to let her know that I understood her. I just started to feel fine when I heard someone entering the room. The person moved closer to the bed, and Olivia glanced at him.
"Is he finally awake?" Walter asked her, and she smiled at him while she nodded.
He moved closer, and he took his LED light. He checked me quickly, then he put his LED light back into his pocket.
"Okay, Asher, about an hour and you can drink. We needed to use the tube, therefore you aren't able to talk."
He said. I had that feeling he didn't want to explain that further, as he knew I knew what that meant. Probably, I needed to wait a long time before I could speak again.
He stood there still, and the way Olivia looked at him made me feel horrible. She looked at him like she was grateful. I hated to see that.
"Well, I am going home now. I assume that you will stay here."
"Yes." Olivia said. I didn't know if that was only me, but she sounded apologetic.
"Do you want to keep Aiden here as well, or do you want me to take him with me?"
Olivia was thinking for a moment, but then she shook her head.
"No, I think he can stay. He is sleeping comfortably. He had a long day. I think we should let him sleep."
Walter nodded.
"Okay, but if there is anything that I can help with, then give me a call."
"Thank you, Walter." She said, and she smiled at him again. She followed him with her eyes while he left the room, and just when he closed the door, she turned back to me.
She caressed my head again.
"Aiden is sleeping in the next room. That is incredible what he did. I have to admit that he is nearly an adult now. He and Flint were very brave. But I don't tell you anything else about it, as he wants to tell you everything. He is very excited to brag about finding you."
I really wanted to hear that, and I really wanted to see him, but what just happened made me worry again.
I knew Walter was like his father for a long time, before he got to know me, but his offer to take him to his flat when I was here disturbed me a lot.
Lying there made me think. I was certain now I would get better. Olivia was next to me, and she seemed to still love me. I had my son, who was eager to tell me what he did, so even if Olivia would be so stupid to choose Walter, just because she got back together with him, thinking I passed away, I won't let it be. I will do everything to have them back, even if that means I will need to fight with Walter. I didn't care, I just wanted my family back.
I had so many questions that I wanted to ask, but I had to be patient. Usually, I could wait without a problem when it was necessary, but this time it was so hard. Forcing myself to wait also made me frustrated as well.
Probably, my thoughts were visible on my face, because Olivia stared at me with a frown.
"Asher, don't be angry with Walter. I wanted to do your surgery, but he held me back. He found me too exhausted to do that, so finally, he did it. He did his best to save you for me."
She said, but the way she was talking about him just made me feel worse. I didn't ask him to do my surgeries; he was the one to decide he would do that. I didn't feel that I should have been grateful to him at all.
Olivia smiled at me, then shook her head. She held my hand again, and she lifted it to her mouth. Feeling her cold lips on my hand made me remember my dream of her wanting to bite me and drink my blood.
She stayed like that for a while, and even if I didn't feel uncomfortable at all, she put my hand down.
"I am sorry, Asher. That could be too cold for you."
I tried to shake my head, but my neck didn't move easily. She held the wet tissue, and she wiped my lips again.
"I think you should try to sleep a little. Maybe when you wake up, that would be easier for you. Maybe you can survive without drinking like that."
Actually, I would love to choose that. I wanted to sleep through the hard part, and wake up only when I can be normal again, but I needed some answers first, so I could be at ease. I wanted to know if she was still my mate. I didn't dare to fall asleep, so she could sneak out to see Walter.
I shook my head again, even if it was hard. She sighed.
"Okay. I just wanted to make it easier for you." She said, while she put the tissue down on the bedside table next to me.
She was sitting on a chair next to my bed, but she rested her head on my arm, while she didn't let go of my hand.
"Just let me know if I am too cold for you."
She whispered, and she remained motionless. I didn't know if she fell asleep, but I didn't dare move. Even if I felt a little cold, I wanted her to stay like that.
