Feel powerful

Going through the city, I had Apollo at my side along with two dozen wolves and half as many witches. We took unmarked black cars and different routes to the address I provided. I just hoped I wasn't sending lambs into the lion's den.

Supernaturals versus agents trained to kill since they could walk. I really didn't know how this was going to turn out.

What I knew was I couldn't let anything happen to Apollo. Even if I couldn't say the words, I knew that I felt for him what I had never felt before. But we didn't need to say those words.

He knew. Apollo and I were bonded for life, even if those lives were cut short. I could feel him in the center of my heart, and he could feel me.

So, I couldn't let him get hurt. No matter what.

We pulled up to the organization building. Alannah parked the car down the street as I had instructed all drivers to do. Although I was sure that some agent already picked up on us.

From the outside, it looked like any other office building in the city. I knew it was filled to the brim with agents I once considered my allies.

There was no remorse within my new feelings for what I was about to do. Instead, like the night my wolf DNA made its first appearance, I was craving the change and the fight that would come with confronting them.

I was going to tear them apart. Limb from limb.

Before getting out of the car, I shared one last glance with Apollo. His face was calm, yet I could almost hear the hard pounding of his heart in the back of the van as the mix of fear and excitement hit his system.

With a last nod, we got out of the car. I straightened up the black leather jacket that concealed my throwing knives and took a deep breath, inhaling the city air. It was acrid from the stench of people and exhaust of the cars. Things I never would have picked up before.

"There are wards on the building," Alannah whispered from behind me, and I paused before crossing the street.

"What do we do?" I didn't look back as I asked, trying not to look at any of them directly.

"Oh, I can break through them easily. They just seem like mild protection. To make passerby look away and have no interest in this area."

"Hm, can we get inside with them still up?" I passively looked down the street.

"Yes, it's not a shield," she advised.

"Keep them up. Things are about to get crazy in there and it's better if the people out here don't look our way. I don't want to cause a scene for the innocent people of New York."

"Very good point." I could see Alannah nodding from the corner of my eye.

Without another word, I quickly locked eyes with everyone in their various places on the sidewalks and across the street and gave them the hand signal to move in. Following me.

I had to go in first and take the brunt of the first attack..

Alannah would do her best to shield me but understood not to get in my way. Everyone knew we weren't leaving any survivors. Those thoughts in mind, I crossed the street with a small army converging on me.

As we crossed the street, Apollo brushed against my arm. I could feel his power in the surrounding air, and it woke up mine in response. Those animal instincts I was fighting to control stirred to life. My heart beat harder and for the second time tonight, I could feel the ache in my gums of teeth that wanted to bite and shred.

Just a few steps away from the door and my blood raced. I could feel it coursing under my skin like a rushing river and a flush of excitement was spreading across my chest and face. That extra energy washed away my fears and my vision tunneled.

The last thing in the outside world I registered was Apollo's reassuring warmth and the tug of the invisible string that connected our souls.

I wasn't going in alone.

That made me feel more powerful than ever.

There were about ten agents in the front lobby of the building as we entered. The organization was always awake, so it was no surprise it would be this active. Every head snapped in our direction, and as bodies filed in behind me, weapons drawn.

My heart skipped a beat, and I stopped paying attention to feelings and emotions. My wolf took over in the back of my mind and I let her loose.

It was time to get wild.

"Whoa! Don't shoot!" I held up my hands as I walked further into the building. "It's me, Fifty-Five."

A bald agent in the back who recognized me lowered his gun. Then a few others did as well. Telling me it wasn't widespread news I was on the list.

"Not so fast," a female agent with her blonde hair in a tight bun rose her gun and kept it pointed at me. "I heard you went rogue. Agent Fifty-Five is marked for death." All guns lifted again.

The low rumble of Apollo's growl reached me, and then the energy of the other wolves danced across my skin.

"Rogue?" I laughed. "Quite the opposite, actually. Agent Fifty-Five is already dead, but Calypso Mathison is here. And she's come for blood."

With a shake of my head, I let out the appearance of my wolf. Gold eyes surrounded by black, sharp teeth and long fur tipped ears. A snarl tore from my lips.

Despite their training, the agents all had visible shock and confusion written across their features. They quickly realized I wasn't like them anymore.

The barrel of every gun pointed directly at me. As if the agents recognized me as the primary threat and weren't bothering to recognize the others who had followed me into this den of vipers. They might be correct in that assumption.
