So excited
"There was another agent that came from the same batch as me. We were close growing up, but in the sense that we were always competing to be the top. We worked well together on missions, and eventually, as we got older, things progressed. We slept with one another, but it was never more than that."
Apollo leaned forward at the table, bracing his forearms on the table, nostrils flaring as he worked to contain his anger. "Why tell me this now?"
"We're about to storm in there to kill everyone. He's in charge these days. Not at the very top, but damn close. I felt like it was important to tell you. To be completely open and honest." I locked eyes with Apollo. "I am going to kill him, otherwise he'll kill me. And you."
Reaching over the table, I grabbed Apollo's clenched fist and rubbed my thumb over his tanned skin, feeling his warmth and enjoying the sparks between us.
"I can't let him kill you. No matter what happens, I can't let him get his hands on you." Could he feel the emotions running wild through me? Could Apollo read the fear and anxiety in my eyes?
All these feelings were new to me and slightly overwhelming. I had to take them in stride. It made pulling on the mask of an emotionless killer going into this mission difficult.
Because I was no longer emotionless. I was a creature with a soul and learning to deal with everything that came with it.
Apollo sighed and leaned closer. He rose his hand to cup my cheek, and I melted into his touch. His thumb traced over my skin and then over my bottom lip.
My heart skipped a beat.
"Calypso." He said my name like a whisper. "Thank you for telling me. Your honesty means a lot. You've had such a hard life, and I want you to know that I am here now. I am your partner and your other half, just like you are mine. I love that you want to protect me, but we're still going into this together."
"Yes, we are together, but I still have to be the one to kill Donovan."
"Alright. You're in the lead on this entire operation. I'll follow you."
It meant a lot for an Alpha to say those words, and yet Apollo had no qualms in admitting that to me.
"Really?" I shouldn't have been so surprised. Part of Apollo's appeal was that as powerful as he was, he still let me take charge and he let me shine.
"Of course." He didn't hesitate to answer. We fell to one another, lips crashing before we could say anything else. One long, hard kiss to convey the things we still left unsaid.
I broke away from him, breathless and my body buzzing. He pressed his forehead into mine, holding my cheek as we settled down. "Gods, the things you make me feel."
"I know what you mean," he laughed out.
Just then, the door opened, and Alannah appeared. "Oh, sorry! Didn't mean to interrupt anything!" She backed out.
"No, it's alright." I spoke up, pulling myself away from Apollo and his alluring warmth. Alannah turned back into the conference room after a quick nod.
"I got what I could. A few weapons and a change of clothes for you." Then she faced Apollo. "One of your wolves got you these."
The pile she placed on the table between me and Apollo was all black, and I was extremely excited about that. Not quite the tactical gear I was used to, but good enough. Then the weapons caught my eye, and I reached for the dagger, calling my name.
"Oh, I like this." It had a wonderful balance. The dagger was simple overall with a black handle and sharp blade, but there was something about it I didn't notice at first. A slight shimmer in the metal you could just see under the light.
"That," she pointed, "is an enchanted dagger from one of the witches' downstairs. Consider it a welcome to the supernatural world gift, and congratulations on finding your soulmate."
"Enchanted?" I'd used magically enhanced medicine in the past, but never in my life had I had an enchanted dagger.
"Yeah, a cut from that blade doesn't stop bleeding. So, be careful. Although I don't think you really need that warning, Callie." She offered with a slight shrug.
"You're right, but thanks for the warning, anyway." I beamed with a massive smile as I turned the blade over and continued to examine it.
"Gods, she's like a kid with candy with that thing," Alannah muttered under her breath..
"Yeah, isn't it great?" Apollo replied. The awe in his voice caught my attention, and I spotted him staring at me from the corner of my eye. I cleared my throat and set the dagger down.
"Thank you." I looked at the gun and throwing knives, but none of them had that enchanted shimmer. "Is the rest of this normal?"
"It is. I almost brought you something silver, but I'm not sure how the new wolf's DNA is doing with all of that. And if these other agents' supernatural DNA is still dormant, I didn't think you'd need it." Alannah pulled extra ammo for the gun out of her back pocket and tossed into the black leather jacket she'd brought for me.
"I'm not sure either. We'll have to experiment with my abilities and weaknesses later, if we live through all of this." The statement meant nothing to me, but Apollo frowned at the end of my sentence.
"Fair enough. They cleared away the aftermath of the fight and so far, no further traces of Myst have been found in the hotel. The New York Alpha is requesting he be allowed to join this little hunt." Alannah crossed her arms and looked between me and Apollo.
Yet Apollo turned to me, waiting for me to answer. Once again, deferring to my decision. I was starting to really enjoy that..
"Alright. If he wants to help, then he's welcome. Give us a few minutes to get ready, and then we'll meet you with the witches and wolves at the back of the hotel. Leave in small groups at a time so it doesn't look like there's an army gathering."
"Okay, see you down there." One last nod and a shared, solemn glance. Then Alannah left us alone. again.
Apollo and I didn't speak as we dressed, and I hid all the weapons. The dagger went back into its sheath, and I strapped that to my hip, giving it a loving pat once it was settled.
I felt better wearing the black outfit now for the mission than I had in the dress earlier. This is what I knew. The excitement of a mission and the thrill of what was to come.
However, now there was uncertainty and concern for the lives of others. The wolves, the Coven, and, most of all, Apollo. All I could was send a silent prayer to the gods I had never prayed to before and hope that tonight, they listened for the voice of someone. unworthy to ask for their help.
