Possessive

"The Coven is taking care of the bodies. The other Alphas and their wolves are in quarantine, waiting to be tested for any sign of Myst or the magical trace it carries. Anyone caught with it is going to be handled to your specifications, Callie." Alannah cleared her throat, and I looked up from the bloody rag I was using to wipe my hands. "What else do you need before we leave?"

I took a deep breath and rolled out my neck and shoulders. Despite the massacre behind me, I was bristling with energy and trying to contain myself from running out of there now.

All the traitors I killed were being burned, and the blood was being magically cleaned away thanks to the New York Matron and the witches she sent to assist us. Now that they knew more about Myst, it was easier for them to follow the trail of putrid magic the drug left behind.

Any wolf and witch involved was being interrogated and dealt with. But the night was still young, and there was still an organization to take down.

As Apollo's Luna, I had the backing of every Alpha here willing to support our mission, and the witches were determined to help. Word spread quickly about what was happening, and it felt like war was on the horizon.

"I need Apollo." I looked around the meeting room that we took over and out through the wall of glass to the dark city below. "We need to talk before we leave."

After the fight, Apollo had pulled me into an empty room and fucked me so hard that I still felt weak in the knees. The fury and fire in our veins and the beasts under our skin making us fall together in a sudden moment of passion. It had been quick and fast, but exactly what we needed to clear the turmoil at that moment.

Once the initial burst of adrenaline had faded, Apollo put his business mask on to speak to the wolves and I went straight to Alannah to have the bodies cleared.

But the night was still young, and we couldn't wait any longer.

"He's actually on his way up here now. Anything else?"

Glancing up at Alannah and her glowing purple eyes, a slow smile spread over my face. I bet witches' DNA would have come in handy on some of my missions over the years.

"Weapons. If you can get them. We're going into this so rushed, but we just can't wait for them to come for us. For me and Apollo." I reached out and wrapped my fingers around Alannah's wrist before she could grab the door handle. "The witches who volunteered to come, please give them another chance to back out. This is going to be dangerous, and they need to know they could lose their lives if they come with us."

"You know witches aren't helpless, Callie. They won't back down from this. Not while knowing that this group has been stealing supernatural DNA to make trained killers. This affects all of us."

"I don't want to see any innocents dying." I admitted and let go of her wrist. After all the death I had caused in my life, I didn't want to see anymore unnecessary bloodshed.

"The New York Coven knows the risk tonight." She looked me up and down in my torn dress and traces of dried blood on my skin. "I've told them about what you could do before your wolf DNA woke up. If these other 'agents' are anything like you, we know we're in for a fight. But it's not everyday witches and warlocks the Matron sent. These are her coven's elites. They're more trained for situations like this."

I rose my brows and leaned back to stare at Alannah. There was something in her tone that led me to believe there was more to her than met the eye. And there was certainly more to the supernatural world than I ever could have dreamed.

"Alright. We shouldn't need more than an hour. We can leave by midnight."

"I'll get any weapons I can." She looked over the shredded silk remnants of my dress, barely hanging on to my curves. "And something for you to wear."

After a shared friendly smile, she walked out the door. I heard her voice in the hallway and someone responded. A deep voice that even now sent shivers down my spine.

Listening to the soft sound of his footsteps in the hall outside, I could guess how far he was. I sat down in one seat at the long conference table facing the door. Clenching my fist and placing it on my lap kept my trembling hand out of sight.

I needed to talk to Apollo before we left, and I was unsure if what I had to say would change anything. Now that I was coming to terms with us being together, I knew I needed to let go of my past.

Although that was always easier said than done.

"Callie." That voice was warm and hearing my name on his lips helped to ease the tension in my shoulders. I looked at his dangerously handsome face and...

Damn. It's hard to think when he looks so good standing there with the evidence of a recent fight staining his clothes.

"Is everything alright?" He was getting too good at reading me.

"We need to talk." With a shuddering inhale, I gestured for Apollo to sit at the table with me. He quirked a brow and angled his head, watching me as he lowered into a seat.

"I'm here to listen." His hand twitched as though he were about to reach out for me. Feeling the tension all around me, I suppose he could sense right now wasn't the right time. He crossed his arms across his chest instead.

"Okay," I hugged myself, bracing for this conversation, "In the organization we're raised not to feel anything. No emotions, no pain. Easier to stay focused during a mission and get the job done. You can't feel remorse after if you don't feel anything at all."

"I understand." Apollo wanted to say more, but held his tongue for me to continue.

"But, since we're all made sterile, they don't care as much about their agents experiencing physical attraction. They're so confident no one would actually feel anything. So, if I needed to seduce or sleep with someone to get information or complete a mission, I did."

Apollo snarled, and the golden glow of his wolf came to life in his eyes. As possessive and territorial as any werewolf male, so I ignored it.
