The bear
Chapter 71: The bear
Louis's pov
"I'm ready to talk," the elder said, his voice quivering. "But you need to understand, this is bigger than you know." I leaned in, eager to hear what he had to say. "The alpha of the neighboring pack is plotting to take over your territory," the elder said, his words slow and careful. "He's allied himself with your stepbrother, and they're working together to bring you down." I felt a wave of disbelief wash over me. Was this really happening?
My mind was racing, trying to process what the elder had just said. It was hard to believe that my stepbrother would betray me like this. But I had to focus. I had to get the information I needed to protect my pack. "What proof do you have?" I asked, my voice steady. "There must be some evidence to back up these claims." The elder looked at me, a haunted look in his eyes. "I don't have any proof," he said, his voice full of regret. "But I can tell you what I know." I nodded, signaling for him to continue.
"I was approached by the neighboring alpha," the elder said, his voice trembling. "He told me that your stepbrother had come to him with a plan to overthrow you. He said that your stepbrother was tired of living in your shadow, and he wanted to take over the pack himself." I felt a surge of anger. My stepbrother had always been jealous of me, but I never thought he would do something like this. "I didn't believe him at first," the elder continued.
I knew that I couldn't just sit back and let this happen. I had to do something to protect my pack. "What did they promise you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice even. "And where is my mate being held?" The elder looked at me, his eyes pleading. "Please, you have to understand. I'm in a difficult position." I let out a breath, trying to stay calm. "I need you to speak," I said, my voice tight. "But I need you to answer my questions." The elder nodded, his eyes full of fear.
I pressed the elder, my patience running thin. "Where is my mate being held?" I demanded, my voice rising. "I need to know now." The elder hesitated, looking at me with a mixture of fear and sorrow. "He's being held in a hidden location," he said, his voice trembling. "I'm not sure I can tell you the exact location, but I can try to give you some clues." I felt a sense of desperation rising within me. "I need to find my mate."
The elder told me the location of my mate. I didn't say a word, I just turned and ran out of the hall, my beta close behind me. I ran out of the mansion and into the moonlit night. My feet pounded against the ground, my heart racing. We raced towards the forest, my thoughts racing. I had to find my mate.
I shifted into my wolf form, my fur glistening in the moonlight. I took off at a run, my paws flying over the ground. I could smell the forest, the scent of the trees filling my nose. I could hear my beta behind me, his paws pounding against the earth. I ran as fast as I could, my mind focused on finding my mate.
The moonlight filtered through the trees, dappling the forest floor with silver light. The wind rustled the leaves above me, and the scent of pine filled the air. I raced through the forest, my breath coming in sharp pants. My lungs burned, but I pushed myself onward, driven by the need to find my mate. My eyes darted around, searching for any sign of them. I could hear my beta behind me, his paws thudding against the earth. We ran on, the forest stretching out before us, endless and mysterious.
As we ran, I could feel my energy beginning to flag. I had been running for what felt like hours, and I was beginning to tire. But I couldn't stop, not until I found my mate. I pushed myself onward, my legs burning with the effort. My ears twitched as I heard a sound, a faint rustling in the distance. I stopped and listened, my heart racing. Was that the sound of my mate?
As we ran, I could feel my energy flagging, but I pushed myself onward, determined to find my mate. Suddenly, I heard another sound, a rustling in the underbrush, not the sound of my mate. My ears pricked up and I froze, listening intently. I heard the rustling again, this time coming from the left. I turned my head in that direction, my heart racing.
The rustling stopped, and I held my breath, trying to detect any other sounds. My ears picked up the faintest of sounds, a crunching of leaves. It was coming from the right, just a few yards away. I crouched low, my hackles raised, my senses on high alert. My beta moved next to me, his eyes wide with fear.
Then, from out of the darkness, a figure emerged. It was large and hulking, its eyes glowing red in the night. I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized what it was: a bear, one of the most dangerous predators in the forest. I had heard stories of bears attacking wolves, and I knew that if this bear saw us, it would be a fight for our lives. I turned to my beta, my eyes wide with fear, but he was already looking at me, his own eyes filled with terror
Just as the bear took a step toward us, a voice rang out, clear and strong. 'Halt!' the voice said. I turned to see a figure emerge from the darkness, dressed in dark clothing, a bow and arrow in hand. The figure stepped in front of us, standing between us and the bear. The bear hesitated, then turned and lumbered away into the forest. The figure turned to us, and I recognized him. It was the woodsman who lived on the edge of the forest. He had a reputation for being brave and strong, and now I could see why.
