Missing
Chapter 61: Missing children
Kayla's pov
I turned to the servants who were standing nearby, their faces full of concern. "I need to find my children," I said, my voice shaking. "They were here just a few minutes ago with their tutor, but I can't find them now." The servants looked at each other, their eyes wide with fear. "I'm sure they're fine," Lily said trying to comfort me, trying to sound reassuring. "They're probably just playing somewhere. They'll turn up any minute now." She added but I doubted it
Without another word, I raced down the hall and turned into the music room. The piano sat in the corner, silent and still. I searched the room, my eyes darting from one corner to the next. But there was no sign of my children or their tutor. The room was empty, the only sound the ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner. I felt a chill run down my spine, a sense of dread washing over me. Something was very wrong, and I didn't know what to do.
I hurried out of the music room and ran up the stairs, two at a time. I had to find my children, had to make sure they were safe. I reached the second floor and started opening doors, peering into each room. But no matter how many doors I opened, I didn't find what I was looking for. Panic was starting to overtake me, my mind racing with possibilities. What if something had happened to them? What if they were in danger? I couldn't stand the thought of it. I had to find them, no matter what.
Hours passed, and I searched every nook and cranny of the house. I even went out into the gardens, calling for my children. But there was no answer, no sign of them anywhere. Lily and the servants were equally worried, and they joined me in my search. But even with all of us looking, we couldn't find any trace of the children or their tutor. The sun was starting to set, casting long shadows across the grounds. I felt my heart sink as I realized that something was very, very wrong.
My hands were shaking as I fumbled for my phone. I dialed Louis' number, my fingers trembling as I pressed the buttons. I held my breath as the phone rang, hoping and praying that he would answer. But after what felt like an eternity, I heard the familiar sound of his voicemail message. I hung up, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. I need Louis right now, I can't spend a night without my children, i can't spend a night without seeing Jojo's face, without hearing Beck's voice and without seeing Kevin brave smile
I couldn't comprehend why he was not answering my calls. But now, when I needed him most, he was nowhere to be found.
I took a deep breath and dialed Louis' number again, my hands still shaking. This time, he picked up on the second ring. "Louis, thank God!" I said, my voice trembling. "I can't find the children. I don't know where they are. You need to come home right now." I heard Louis take a deep breath on the other end of the line. "I'm on my way," he said, his voice firm and resolute. "I'll be there as soon as I can." I felt a wave of relief wash over me, knowing that help was on the way.
As I hung up the phone, I felt a strange calm settle over me. Louis was coming, and I knew that everything would be okay. But I couldn't just stand around and wait. I started pacing the hall, trying to think of where the children could be. I went over every inch of the house in my mind, trying to think of anywhere they could be hiding. I felt my panic starting to rise again, my thoughts racing in a million different directions. Then, in the midst of my turmoil, I had a flash of inspiration.
I knew I couldn't just wait around for Louis, no matter how much I wanted to. So I continued to search the house, opening every closet and peering under every bed. I was about to give up when I heard the front door open. I looked up and saw Louis standing in the doorway, his face pale and his eyes full of worry. He took one look at me and knew something was wrong. "What's going on?" he asked, his voice full of concern.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "I can't find the children," I said, my voice trembling. "I've looked everywhere and I don't know where they could be. I'm so worried." Louis walked over to me and put his arm around my shoulder. "It's going to be okay," he said, his voice reassuring. "We're going to find them. Let's start by retracing your steps. Maybe we'll find something that will give us a clue." I nodded, grateful for his support.
I began to lead Louis through the house, taking him to every room I had already checked. I described how I had searched each one, but we still couldn't find any sign of the children. I could feel my panic rising again, but I tried to push it down. "Where else could they be?" I asked, my voice growing desperate. "Is there anywhere else we haven't looked?" Louis thought for a moment, then his face lit up. "The servants' quarters!" he exclaimed. "We haven't checked there yet."
After hours of searching, we still couldn't find the children. I was starting to feel like I was going to lose my mind, but I tried to keep it together for the sake of the search. We had checked every inch of the house, and still there was no sign of them. I didn't know what else to do. I looked at Louis, my eyes pleading. He looked back at me, a mixture of concern and determination on his face. "There has to be somewhere else," he said, his voice full of resolve. "We can't give up now."
