Unusual feeling
Chapter 60: Unusual feeling
Kayla's pov
After laying in bed for what felt like hours, I finally pulled myself up to a sitting position. I sighed heavily, feeling exhausted and drained. But I knew I couldn't continue to lie there all day, doing nothing. I needed to do something productive, even if it was just something small.
I left my bedroom and made my way down the hall, my feet padding softly against the hardwood floor. I reached the end of the hallway and pushed open the door to the library. Sunlight streamed in through the large windows, illuminating the rows of books that lined the walls. I breathed in the smell of dust and old paper, a familiar scent that always brought a sense of calm. I made my way to the center of the room and looked around, trying to decide what to do.
After a moment, I decided to browse the shelves, taking my time as I perused the titles. I ran my fingers over the spines of the books, feeling the grooves and ridges of the lettering. I read the names of the authors, some familiar and some new. I pulled a book from the shelf and opened it, the pages feeling crisp and smooth beneath my fingers. I flipped through the pages, enjoying the feel of the paper and the smell of the ink.
I settled on a worn copy of "The Great Gatsby" and began to read. I had always loved this book, with its rich descriptions and complex characters. I lost myself in the story, the words flowing through my mind like a river. I was lost in another world, one filled with mystery and intrigue. For a moment, I forgot about everything else, lost in the pages of the book. But then a sound broke through my trance, and I was brought back to the present.
It was the sound of the library door opening and closing. I paused in my reading, my heart beating a little faster. Who could be visiting me at this hour? I set the book down on the table and went to investigate. I made my way down the hallway, my footsteps echoing in the silence. I reached the front door and peered through the peephole, but I couldn't see anything. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
As I opened the door, I was surprised to see a young woman standing on the doorstep, a tea tray in her hands. "Hello, ma'am," she said, her voice quiet and meek. "Miss Lily asked me to bring you some tea." I stared at her, my mind whirling. I didn't know anyone named Lily, and I certainly hadn't asked for any tea.
I forced myself to smile, though my heart was still pounding. I took the tea tray from the woman and closed the door. But even as I did so, I knew something wasn't right. How had she known so much about me? And why was she so insistent on giving me tea? I walked back into the living room, setting the tray on the coffee table. As I looked at the teacup, I noticed that something didn't look quite right.
I stood there, staring at the cup of tea, my mind racing. How had Lily known I was in the library? I took a step back from the tea, feeling a knot of fear in my stomach. Then, a thought occurred to me. What if the tea was poisoned? What if this was some kind of elaborate plot to kill me? I felt a wave of panic wash over me, and I quickly backed away from the tea.
I sat down on the couch in the library, trying to calm my racing heart. I picked up my book, but I couldn't focus on the words. My mind was still on the strange woman and the tea she had brought me. I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. I put the book down, my hands shaking. I closed my eyes and tried to take a deep breath. But the knot of fear in my stomach remained, and I knew I wouldn't be able to relax until I found out what was going on.
I walked down the hallway, my heart still racing. I turned a corner and saw a door at the end of the hall. A sign on the door read "Lily's Room" in delicate cursive. I took a deep breath and reached for the doorknob, turning it slowly. I opened the door and stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the dim light. The room was big and extravagant, with a king sized bed and a desk in the corner. I closed the door behind me and turned to face the room.
"Hi, I hope that you are feeling better now" I said
"yes, thank you" she replied
"okay, did you ask anyone yo bring me tea" I asked
"No, I didn't send anyone to bring you tea," Lily repeated, her brow furrowed in confusion. "In fact, I've been in here all day"
She looked at me, her eyes searching mine for answers. "Are you sure that this wasn't just a misunderstanding?" she asked. "I mean, it's possible that someone else knocked on your door, right?" she said
Panic flooded through me as Lily's words sank in. If she hadn't sent anyone to my door, then who was it? And why were they carrying a gun? I couldn't shake the feeling that something was very, very wrong. Without another word, I turned and fled from the room, my feet pounding on the hardwood floor. I raced down the hall and turned into the parlor, my eyes scanning the room for any sign of danger. But all I saw was an empty room, the fire in the hearth burning low.
I stood in the center of the room, my chest heaving as I tried to catch my breath. The fireplace crackled and popped, the light flickering off the walls. Shadows danced across the floor, making the room feel eerie and otherworldly. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I told myself that everything was fine, that I was just overreacting. But the uneasy feeling in my gut wouldn't go away. Something was wrong, and I knew it.
