CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN
ELENA'S POV
The woodland fell into an odd quiet. I could see the anxiety radiating from everyone around me, and a sense of dread persisted even after the renegade leader withdrew.
With a calm yet forceful voice, Stefen turned to the group. We must maintain our vigilance. Even if the renegade leader is no longer among us, we are still in danger.
Alpha Kieran looked around at the woods and nodded. He will reorganize. Until he gets what he wants, he won't give up.
I clinched my fists, feeling irritated. "This never ends." We're constantly on the defensive and just responding.
Kieran gazed at me, and his eyes softened. Then, we must alter our strategy. We attack before he can do anything.
Stefen's mouth clenched. "I concur. We cannot wait to see what he will do next. Now is the moment to launch an attack.
Leila snarled in agreement, still in her wolf shape. Let's go after him. Put a stop to this before things worsen.
With a strained expression, one of Kieran's soldiers advanced. However, how? The rogues have done a good job of hiding. Even the location of their primary base is unknown to us.
With his arms folded, Kieran looked thoughtfully. "There are methods to entice him. He has a clear objective in mind.
We looked at one other, and I instantly understood Stefen. "You say we make use of the prophesy. use me as a lure.
Kieran gave a slow nod. "He will come to us if he believes he is on the verge of achieving his goals."
Stefen's protective instinct flared, and his expression darkened. "No. I won't expose her to that kind of risk.
I touched his arm and looked him in the eye. "Stefen, I'll put an end to this once and for all if that's what it takes."
His voice was quiet but angry as he shook his head. "There must be an alternative. I won't put you or our child in danger.
Kieran raised his voice, forceful but composed. This is the most efficient method of luring him out. If he believes he can carry out the prophecy, he won't pass up any chances.
With my heart racing, I glanced at Stefen. "I have faith in you to keep me safe. And the entire pack will be present, prepared to engage in combat.
Leila took a step forward and transformed back into a person. "We'll be prepared. He will not survive if he tries to approach.
Stefen paused, concern shining in his eyes. "Elena... The idea of something happening to you is too much for me to handle.
I felt a rush of resolve as I clasped his palm. "We have this in common. I will no longer flee from him.
He nodded at last, but his face was still strained. "All right. However, we take caution in doing this. If we make one mistake, he could elude us once more.
Kieran nodded abruptly, his eyes calculating. "Warriors will be positioned throughout the area, concealed yet within striking distance. We don't let him go once he proves himself.
I felt a wave of optimism wash over me as I glanced about at our comrades. "This is our opportunity to put an end to this nightmare."
We were standing in a little clearing just beyond the pack's boundaries an hour later. With their eyes darting into the shadows, Kieran's men concealed amid the woods. Leila, Stefen, and I waited outside, all of our senses keenly aware.
My pulse raced at each sound of leaves rustling. Although I was aware that this strategy was risky, I also believed that it was our best chance to halt the renegade commander.
Stefen's calm, comforting voice came across the mind-link. Stay close to me in case something goes wrong. I refuse to allow him to touch you.
Even though I was feeling anxious, I answered, "I trust you."
At the edge of the clearing, a dark figure suddenly materialized, his eyes gleaming in the shadows. The rebellious boss. A chilly grin stretched over his face as he walked slowly closer.
His voice was brimming with phony warmth as he added, "Luna." "I knew you would realize your mistake."
Stepping forward, Stefen blocked his way. "Coming here was a mistake on your part."
Unfazed, the renegade commander laughed. Additionally, you're mistaken to believe that you can stop me. Whether you like it or not, the prophesy will come to pass.
With a strong voice, I stood my ground. "You're not correct. I refuse to allow you to utilize my child or myself for your perverse schemes.
The renegade leader's eyes darkened and his smile vanished. "You believe you can avoid fate? All you're doing is postponing the inevitable.
Leila snarled and sat down next to me. "You have undervalued us. We are more difficult to break than you may believe.
He looked to the darkness and arched an eyebrow. "Oh, I didn't undervalue you. However, I worry whether you have underestimated me.
He held up his hand before anybody could respond, and a torrent of evil energy rushed forward and struck us. In an instant, Stefen was at my side, protecting me as I staggered back, the energy overwhelming me.
"Remain behind me!" His eyes were flaming with rage as he snarled.
The renegade commander chuckled in a sarcastic, icy tone. "Alpha, is this your best option? You are not up to par.
With ferocious gazes, Kieran's soldiers surrounded him as they advanced from the darkness. With an unwavering smile, the renegade commander looked around. "A surprise attack? clever. but not astute enough.
Kieran emerged, his eyes blazing with resolve, and pounced at the renegade commander when he released another burst of black energy that dispersed the warriors.
The earth trembled when the two alphas met. The renegade commander used vicious power in battle, but Kieran kept up with him, hitting him repeatedly.
"Now!" Stefen called out to the warriors via the mind-link.
Attacking the renegade commander from every angle, they closed in. His motions were strained, and I could feel the fatigue catching up with him. We were winning.
However, the renegade leader roared in rage, his body emitting evil energy, just as my hope was beginning to rise. Do you believe you can beat me? We shall not deny the prophecy!
Stefen's voice was urgent as he tightened his grip on me. Elena, don't leave! He is in a grave situation.
The renegade leader's eyes were fixed on me, and they were full of icy determination. "I'll make sure no one else has the child if I can't."
My blood froze. "No, you wouldn't."
With a contorted grin, he held up his hand. "Observe me."
The silver wolf, its body blazing with a ferocious brilliance, sprang between us before he could launch another assault. I could see it straining, yet it protected us by blocking the explosion.
"Wait a minute!" I yelled, my voice a mix of panic and desperation.
With unwavering force, Kieran and Stefen launched coordinated strikes at the renegade commander. He was knocked to his knees by their blows.
Anger distorted the wayward leader's face. "You won't win."
Kieran's tone was icy and definitive. "It's finished."
Kieran and Stefen delivered a last, mighty punch, and the rebel commander went down, his corpse crashing to the floor.
The air was heavy with the residue of war, and the clearing was silent. My body still shook from the force of it all, but I felt a wave of relief pass over me.
Stefen's eyes softened as he turned to face me. "It is finished. We're secure.
But just as the relief was starting to fade, a howl from a distance reverberated through the forest, stronger and more terrifying than any previous cry.
Leila's dread-filled voice pierced the mind-link. Something else is there. Something more powerful.
As I looked around and realized we weren't alone, my heart began to rush. The danger had not ended.
A taller, threatening creature with fire-like eyes emerged at the edge of the clearing. My blood froze. Although we had prevailed in this battle, But a far darker enemy had just arrived.
