CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX
ELENA'S POV
The eerie cry out ended, but the risk it posed persisted, sending a shiver down my spine. Stefen's face hardened with resolve as he turned to face the group.
His voice was stern as he stated, "We don't have much time before they regroup." "We must ensure that everyone is prepared."
Alpha Kieran looked around the pack members and nodded. We'll split up into groups. We will not be caught off guard by the rogues once more.
I was worry as I looked at Stefen. "Do you think they'll return this evening?"
He clenched his teeth. "We won't take any chances, but I'm not sure."
With blazing eyes, Leila took a step forward. Alpha, we'll discuss the eastern and northern boundaries. They won't get past us if they show up.
Stefen turned to the other fighters and said, "Good." "We strengthen all areas of weakness. Nobody fights by himself.
With determined expressions on their faces, the pack members nodded and hurried to their places. I felt a mixture of pride and terror as I watched them go. Together, we were more powerful, yet the rogues persisted.
A hand was placed on Stefen's shoulder by Kieran. "I'll place my soldiers around the southern boundary. We have an opportunity to put a stop to this together.
Stefen nodded briefly. "I'm grateful. We require every possible ally.
As it padded up next to me, the silver wolf's eyes softened as it studied me. Elena, they will arrive. However, you underestimate your strength.
With a flash of bravery, I looked it in the eye. "They won't prevail."
Stefen looked to me as the warriors scattered, a worried expression on his face. "Elena, please remain with Kieran's group for the time being. There, you'll be safer.
I took a step closer and shook my head. "No, Stefen. I will remain with you. We have this in common.
His eyes softened as he sighed. "I understand, but the idea of something happening to you is too much for me to handle."
I said firmly, "We don't have time to argue." "I must be here for you."
With a frantic tone, Leila's voice emerged across the mind-link. There is movement on the northern boundary, Alpha. Though it's dim, it may be them.
Stefen's gaze grew strained. "All right. Everyone remains alert. They are putting our defenses to the test.
Alpha Kieran's raised an eyebrow. Let them test us. They won't discover any vulnerability here.
The silver wolf tensed its muscles and gave a deep snarl. They're close. Prepare yourself.
Moving swiftly, we positioned ourselves so that we could see the northern boundary. I could feel my pulse pounding in my chest as the trees rustled in the dark. They were present.
The renegade leader stepped out of the shadows, a chilly smile twisting his features. "Alpha, you're back so soon? I assumed you would have realized your mistake.
With a firm voice, Stefen took a step forward. "This is over now."
The renegade commander chuckled as he looked around our group. "Alpha, do you believe you can stop fate? I'm meant to have the child. And that is something you cannot alter.
I tightened my hands and moved to stand next to Stefen. "You cannot decide the child's destiny."
The renegade leader's eyes flashed with rage, and his smile disappeared. Luna, do you dare to disobey me? You're ensuring your own demise.
With a deep, lethal voice, Alpha Kieran advanced. "Enough of this. We'll stop this permanently if you don't leave now.
The rebellious leader scoffed. "All of you are so blind. There is no denying the prophecy. This is only a postponement.
A wave of his hand sent a flood of black energy out of him, racing in our direction. The onslaught was blocked by Stefen and Kieran's coordinated movements, but they were pushed back by the strong force.
Leila snarled and lunged forward, but she was stopped by the renegade leader's henchmen who emerged from the darkness. The rogues' black energy thickened the air as our packs battled with them, causing the clearing to burst into turmoil.
"Remain near!" Stefen's voice broke through the confusion as he yelled.
As one of the rogues rushed at me, I defended myself by swinging a branch. He growled and reached for me with his claws, but the silver wolf sprang in and tackled him to the ground before he could get a chance.
"Thanks," I said, feeling both thankfulness and terror.
Elena, pay attention. I heard the wolf's voice again. They don't realize how powerful you are.
With a shout of rage, the renegade commander fixed me with his gaze. "Luna, this is over tonight."
Dark energy crackled around him as he lunged at me before I could respond. Stefen tried to stop him, but the leader was too quick and knocked him off balance.
As he got closer, I held the branch hard and braced myself. Despite my panic, I responded in a firm voice, "You won't take anything from us."
He grinned. "Brave words. We'll see whether you can support them.
He was about to attack when Alpha Kieran materialized, his claws tearing through the air. As Kieran blocked his way, the renegade commander growled and took a step back.
"Are you up for a fight?" Kieran had a lethal voice. "So, let's get this over with."
The earth trembled when the two alphas met. The renegade commander battled with a ferocity I had never witnessed before, but Kieran kept up with him, hitting with relentless precision.
With his eyes burning with rage, Stefen stumbled to his feet and joined the battle. Their assaults clashed with bone-crushing ferocity as the three of them moved in a whirl of motion.
It was Leila who spoke via the mind-link. More are on the way, but we're keeping them at bay. We must put an end to this.
With its eyes fixed on the renegade leader, the silver wolf nodded. The time has come.
I was in awe of the silver wolf's speed and strength as it joined the combat and leaped for the renegade leader before I could comprehend what was occurring. I sensed the tension as they pushed him back, inch by inch. We were all worn out.
The renegade leader's darkly satisfied chuckle reverberated around the area. "You believe you've triumphed? It is impossible to halt the prophecy.
Kieran's voice was full of resolve as he roared. "It doesn't need to be stopped. All we have to do is stop you.
The renegade commander was brought to the ground by Kieran and Stefen's last, strong strike. He lay there for a time, dejected.
Then, however, he made a low, icy laugh. "You're not the winner. This is only the start.
Dark energy swirled around him as he lifted his hand before anybody could respond. My heart stopped as I knew what he was going to do, and the power increased.
"Everyone, back!" I shouted, I was scared.
But, it was too late. Everyone was flung backwards by the renegade leader's discharge of evil energy. I fell hard to the ground, gasping for air and feeling agony.
We were left amid the battle's debris when the smoke cleared and the renegade leader had vanished.
Stefen hurried over to join me, concern shining in his eyes. "How are you, Elena?"
Despite the pain in my body, I nodded. "He's gone, but I'm okay."
Kieran grimaced as he peered about. "This is not the end of it. He will return. And he won't come by himself the next time.
A weird stillness descended upon the woodland as we gathered. Something far worse was approaching, and I felt a chill go down my spine.
