CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE

ELENA'S POV

Everything paused for a moment as the forest's bright light broke the night. I tried to see who was approaching, my heart racing. Was it an enemy or a friend?

Stefen moved closer to me, his eyes closed. "Who do you believe it to be?"

With a knot of dread in my stomach, I shook my head. "I'm not sure. However, we cannot wait around to find out.

A group of individuals emerged from the jungle as the light dimmed. A tall, strong man with a ferocious look stood at their head. He exuded authority, almost as though he were the leader of a whole pack.

The renegade leader growled softly, obviously annoyed. "Interference was not what I expected."

The newcomer's expression was cool but composed as he raised an eyebrow. "Why have you caused turmoil in my territory? A prophecy that you hardly comprehend?

Stefen took a step forward and spoke loudly. "Who are you?"

The man's countenance was unreadable as his eyes shifted to Stefen. "My name is Alpha Kieran. The eastern pack is led by me. Additionally, you have invaded our territory.

Although I was relieved, I remained vigilant. "Alpha Kieran, we didn't mean to cause you any trouble."

He cocked his head, absorbing the view. "It appears that trouble has followed you anyhow."

Anger flashed in the rogue leader's eyes as he sneered. "Your land doesn't matter to me. I own the child, and I won't go without what I came for.

Alpha Kieran's eyes became cold. "If you believe you can take anything away from this, you're mistaken."

The roar of the renegade commander reverberated throughout the clearing. "I can't be stopped."

Kieran squinted his eyes. "I've stopped getting worse."

Stefen transformed back into a wolf and stood between me and the renegade commander. "Remain back, Elena."

However, I wouldn't let them handle this on their own. I stood next to him, grabbing a fallen limb. "Stefen, I'm not abandoning you."

As he gazed at me, Kieran's eyes softened a little, but he remained silent. He turned to his warriors instead. "Around them. Let's move quickly.

With a sinister and mocking laugh, the renegade commander laughed. "You believe I can be stopped by a few wolves?"

With growls, Kieran's warriors closed in on him and the outlaws. The threat of violence hung heavily in the air, and tension was high.

Dark energy swirled around the rogue leader as he pushed forward, but Kieran's quick and forceful moves met him head-on. A force shook the ground when the two clashed.

The air was filled with the growls of Stefen and Kieran's warriors as they attacked the surviving rogues. I resisted any rogues who attempted to approach Stefen too closely.

Sharp and authoritative, Kieran's voice cut through the confusion. "You only get one chance to give up. I'll let you live if you go.

However, the rebel leader's venomous voice simply made him chuckle. "The prophecy will come to pass. There is nothing you can do to alter that.

Alpha Kieran's eyes become stony. "So you've decided to follow your destiny."

Kieran rushed at him without saying another word, their bodies slamming against each other in a ferocious struggle. Despite the rogue leader's might, Kieran's strength remained constant as he matched him blow for blow.

Beside him, Stefen battled, moving quickly and accurately. We were retaining our position despite the strength of the rogues. I experienced hope for the first time.

With his claws extending, one of the rogues suddenly sprang at me. I swung the branch and knocked him back, but he got back up fast, anger shining in his eyes.

He growled, "You think you can get in our way, Luna?"

I looked into his eyes and clinched my hands. "You don't scare me."

When the rogue sprang for me once more, Stefen was there and slammed into him with all of his strength before he could get to me. The outlaw stumbled back, defeated and covered in blood.

Stefen snarled in a low, menacing voice, "You stay away from her."

With a cry of rage, the renegade commander threw Kieran off him. He stared at me, anger shining in his eyes. "Luna, you cannot avoid fate. I own the child.

I became enraged and took a step forward. "You cannot command me. Our child isn't either.

The renegade leader's eyes darkened and his smile vanished. "Then you give me no options."

A burst of dark energy rushed forward as he raised his palm, colliding with Stefen and knocking him back. With my heart racing, I hurried to be by his side.

"Stefen!" Fear seized me as I murmured.

He moaned as he tried to sit up. "I'm fine, but we must prevent him from winning."

Alpha Kieran approached the rogue leader, his eyes flashing with rage as he stood upright. "This is your final opportunity. Get out or suffer the repercussions.

The rebellious leader, however, merely sneered. "You cannot frighten me."

Kieran's face became stern. "So you've decided to die."

His claws slashed through the air as he charged at the renegade leader, growling furiously. Their bodies moved in a flurry as the two collided once more.

Stefen and I were able to repel the remaining rogues with the assistance of Kieran's troops as they closed in. Although the fight was intense, I could see that the rogues were becoming weaker and fewer in number.

I believed we were winning, but then the rogue commander shot forth a dazzling burst of dark energy that sent everyone reeling back.

As I battled to catch my breath, I struck the ground hard, feeling pain flash through me. Power radiated from the rebel leader's physique as he stood in the middle of the clearing.

"You believe you've triumphed?" His voice reverberated around the area as he sneered. "The prediction has not ended yet. I'll be back.

Alpha Kieran stumbled to his feet, rage burning in his eyes. "You won't come back if you value your life."

With a sly smile, the renegade commander fixed me with one final look. "I own the child. And I'll come back for her.

He vanished into the darkness before anyone could respond, leaving us standing in the battle's debris.

My heart continued to race as I turned to face Stefen. "Is it... finished?"

His face stern, he shook his head. "For the time being. However, he will return.

Alpha Kieran stepped forward, his eyes unwavering. "Luna, you've made formidable foes. To make it through this, you'll need more than just bravery.

I nodded, feeling more determined than ever. "After that, we fight. We keep our pack safe. Whatever is necessary.

Kieran gave me a long look before nodding. Then you are accompanied by my warriors. Together, we shall stand.

A deep, ominous scream that was laced with a vow of vengeance resounded from the distance as we regrouped. Although the renegade leader had vanished, he was far from vanquished.
