Chapter 42 The Screaming Luna.
Chapter 42
Lyra's POV
“Ahhh!!”
The screaming of Rosa erupted through the room, darted into the hallway, and reached us from the corridor of the hallway where I and Jax stood.
Rosa screamed like a traumatized patient. Like she had skipped her medications.
“Is that not my Luna?” Jax asked as he snapped towards the sound. His eyes went wide.
Everyone's attention had turned to where the noise was emanating from. The noise was so intense that it was capable of removing the foundation of the clinic. Three nurses had left their positions and hurried down to the room to check on Rosa.
Alpha Jax wasn't left out. I watched in excitement as Alpha Jax's feet were running off from me to where Rosa was. His feet slapped the tiled floor.
I stood still in the middle of the hallway. Watching it all. My heart beat steady and calm while chaos exploded around me.
They didn't know that I was the one. I had disappeared into Rosa’s dream wearing the face of old Rayner, the goddess of the forest, and traumatizing her.
I just had to be doing this to Rosa until she came out to confess. Until she came out to confess the names of everyone who partook in Mila's death. Though I know every one of them, wouldn't it be awesome if it came out from her lips? I know that she wouldn't, easily. But let's just see.
I had to do this. I had to be sweet like honey when wolves expected it and bitter like poison when they deserved it.
I want to be that shadow that followed their guilt. The nightmare they couldn't wake up from.
Until they all paid their debt in full.
I shook my head and started to walk towards Rosa's room. Slow steps. Calm steps. If you decide not to go, wolves around watching might start to read unnecessary meanings.
I had to look concerned but not pitying them.
I stepped into the room. Healer Firkley is battling with Rosa and other nurses.
This is the drip; the nurses, I think, feel it failing on her body.
The healer who couldn't bear the pressure with the whole world on him. I could see it painted on his face. But trying to muster confidence in the eyes of the world so as not to cause panic.
He turned to everyone in the room, including Alpha Jax, his voice loud and firm. “Everyone out! I need space to work. This patient needs urgent attention!”
The nurses start shooing everyone in the room backward. “Please step out. Give the healer this room.”
Alpha Jax bellowed at the top of his voice, “Can someone explain to me what is happening to my Luna…?”
Everyone froze.
A young nurse with a slender body, her hand was raised trying to calm everyone.
“Please, you have to leave this ward now; the healer will speak to you as soon as possible.”
“Don't touch me…” Alpha Jax roared.
The nurse flinched backwards. Her eyes went wide.
“I don't have any business with you.” Alpha Jax snarled, pointing his index finger at the young nurse. “I only have business with the healer there….”
Please, your highness, we are sorry we have to get you out of here. This matter is very urgent.”
The young nurse was trying to stay polite … directing everyone out of the ward, including myself.
“You don't touch me… I am the alpha king of a respected pack… Your king dares not address me in this manner….” Alpha Jax, who had been brewing with anger.
“I am sorry, your highness,” the nurse said again. "You have to excuse us; this is a matter of urgency…”
“Are you deaf when I say that I don't have any business with you? I only have business with him!!”
Alpha Jax, who had been brewing with anger, pointed furiously to healer Firkley, who was battling with Rosa's condition. She had been unconscious, opening her eyes wide, staring into nothing.
The nurse couldn't take it anymore; her fear had melted into frustration. Her hand dropped to her side.
She bellowed at the top of her voice, “I think at this point I will have to call on the security guards…!
“Try that, and let’s see what comes after that!”
The room had been tense as Caramel had stepped outside; only Alpha Jax was still going back and forth with the nurse.
I turned at the doorway as I addressed everyone.
I cleared my throat, stepping forward before the argument between Alpha Jax and the nurse broke the wall of the ward apart.
Healer Firkley!” My voice, strong enough to cut through the chaos in the room.
Every head turned.
Rosa still lay on the bed, her eyes still rolled back to her skull as if she was being sucked into another realm.
Healer Firkley didn't hear my voice; he was talking to the nurse beside her, sweat beading across his brow. She is sleeping into consciousness and a dream snare. Her pulse is unstable. I have tried Moonbane serum stabilizer.”
“Moonbane serum stabilizers won't work!” I interrupted.
I paused a bit. Then I dropped the bombshell that sent a de
ep silence into the whole room.
“You are calming her body, but her mind is still trapped.”
