Chapter 27 Wickedness Against Mila
Chapter 27.
Jax's POV.
I felt like going into the room to change to something a little bit presentable, but the matter at hand has gone beyond that.
My breath spiked as I hurried out of my quarters. I had tied up my robe properly around. The only thing that was left underneath was my shorts. Heavy steps of maids and palace guards trailer behind me. Like soldiers on their way to a must win battle front.
Rosa too wasn't left out. I should have instructed her to stay behind. Any of this, had never and will never be part of her business. She was walking slowly behind us too.
I stepped into the palace hall, then I saw this woman, thick voice, masculine, army-embodied shape. Her hair disheveled, she was sprawling on the floor, like a baby. Wailing.
Immediately she sighted me coming into the room, words started tumbling from her mouth.
“Please help me, my lord…” she gasped, “ it Mila…”
Her eyes had turned reddish and swollen, a sign of long time wailing or depression.
It… Mila ,” her voice shook, “I can't just take this anymore, “
“she had been threatening and beating me- both,”... She gasped, clutching her chest as if the words themselves hurt," in the dream… and in the real life." Her voice trembled, darting her eyes into the ground. “ She also instructed me to come out and confess my sins.”
She was coughing and sobbed between words. She said “if I refuse… evil will befall me and my household…”
Her breath hitched again as she was trying to speak, “ I thought she was joking at first, until the moon goddess allowed her to strike my mate and my pup dead in their sleep this morning.” Her voice cracked like a broken glass cup. “The deed had been done! Mila did as she said. She struck my household!”
Her wailing rose in a thunderous manner , echoing through the walls of the empty hall, as if her building could tear down the walls of the building.
“P…please help me. I never wanted to be part of this. I told them. They forced me…” She begged.
“Sh…” I stopped her halfway, before she could finish her statement. Her words had started to irritate me. I felt like slapping her. But as a king and my statues. I kept my calm.
“Enough of those ranting,” I instructed. I stood up from where I sat. Climbing down the three stairs to the floor, she was sprawling on the floor, bent low to her level, our heads at par with each other. My eyes too lean into her. The room thickened with silence demanding an answer.
Everyone, including Rosa, who had stood behind one of the pillars, were watching keenly. A few guards who had accompanied me into the room were shocked too.
I tried to be slow and calm as much as I could with my question, “who offered you money and how much?”
It was…”
Hmmm…(cough).
“My lord wouldn't it not be too quick to ask this type of questions while elders are not seated? I suspect this may be a lie and some kind of frame up against the elders…” Rosa quickly interrupted.
“I am not lying, I swear by Asheteroth’s name.” The deep voice of the confessed woman quickly cut-in. “What do I gain if I tarnish their image?”
I turned to Rosa sharply. Gritting my teeth. Intensed anger brewed in me like a wide storm. I jabbed my hand in the air towards her, like a sword from where she stood. “Never in your life Rosa…”
“I repeat, never in your godforsaken life interrupt me while I am deliberating on pack matters!”
She was startled. The whole room fell quiet. Even one could hear the sound of a pin, if it should drop.
My breath spiked, I tried to calm myself down, “ by the way, who invited you here?”
You can leave this room now!”
“B…But I demand to know what happened to my sister. It's my sister we are talking about here!…”
“Rosa!" I bellowed her name. A sign that I had had enough.
She turned quietly, groaning as she left the room.
“Lady Justina was the one that approached me two nights before your coronation, my lord. They offered me a hundred shekels with the Silencium-9 poison.”
Lady Justina?” I turned to one of the guards, “where is she?"
I heard she was struck by the gods. She went to worship the moon goddess in Alpha Vexhood’ shrine.”
I turned to the other guards close to him, “is that true?”
He nodded his head slightly, “The rumor is true, my lord. She was laid to rest yesterday."
" Fuck!" The word escaped from my mouth quickly. I thought my lips would help me in stopping it. “This is not fair!” I roared, “This is just not fair at all. The gods should have allowed me to pass my judgement on her.”
“I would have tied her up,” I said through my teeth, “ and fed her a chunk of her flesh for breakfast till she passed her last breath.”
“Maybe that was the reason the gods struck her dead.” The first guard added quietly.
I turned to the she-wolf on the floor, still agonizing and lamenting.
“So you colluded with those that poisoned my Luna-to-be,” I spat, the words cutting like a knife, “and you have all the guts in the world to tell me to my face!”
“I… I am sorry my lord.” She said, her lips trembled. Searching my eyes if she would find mercy.
I fumed. I stood up on my feet. I paced to and fro in front of her.
I dragged my hand through my hair. Trying hard to calm the storm raging in my chest.
I pointed to the guard standing, “let the same doom that claimed Mila, claim her!”
“Noooo!” She cried out.
She struggled on the floor, dragging herself, towards me, to grab the helm of my robe.
I stepped backward, distancing myself from her, as if her hand had
been infected with incurable disease.
“Cut her into pieces, and feed her flesh to the swine tomorrow morning!”
