Chapter 26 Unseen Confession
Chapter 26
Jax’s POV
She bent low and was about to greet me.
“Good…”
“Wait…!” I cut her shut and my voice came out sharper than I meant. “Who the hell are you?”
I…I am Lyra, my lord…”
my heart beating faster than I could control.
Lyra?”
“From where? How do you get here? Who employed you?”
Those series of questions found their way out of my lips but my lips couldn't stop it. I couldn't wait for the answers either.
She stood up from where she bent , her mop clasp in her hand like she had been trained for this . Her hand slightly trembled but her face stayed calm. Unmoved. No fear. Just a quiet softness that threw me off.
Regardless of how I had been shouting at the top of my voice, she was just looking at me. Like someone who couldn't hurt a fly. She reminds me of Mila.
“I am asking you a question,” I took a few steps forward, “and you are just standing there smiling?”
She didn't move. She held my gaze like she could see through it. For a moment I forgot to breathe, my throat went dry. The room felt smaller, like the walls were closing down on me.
I looked at her from head to toe like I had seen a ghost.
Her face, her smile, everything about her looks exactly like Mila. Only her skin color, her size and her age. Is this the gift Mila promised me? to threaten me in my sleep and while awake.
She threw me off balance but the way she looked at me, kind, steady, unshaken.
It's the queen.” She eventually answered. Her voice, soft and calm. My eyes couldn't stop hovering around her black glassy skin. One have never set my eyes on in my lifetime
But I wasn't carried away with that. I wanted If this version of Mila telling me she is going to make life unbearable both in the dream and
The queen?” I repeated, “Which of the queens?”
I blinked and looked around the corner as if answers could be hiding there. My brain went blank for a moment.
Rosa, my luna. The queen. Sorry, not really my Luna.
She only carried the title, and that was it. I had never touched her, never let come closer to me. Never have I opened her under skirt, to see what she is selling. Or perform any role to me as queen. She would be respected within the walls of the palace and beyond but calling her my luna is out of line.
Queen Rosa,” she quickly replied.
“Hello No!” I snapped, my voice echoing the walls of the room.
She still didn't move. Unbothered, especially the way she glued her hand to the mop.
“You mean Rosa employed you, without letting me know!” I let out with anger.
Anger rushed through me, hot and fast. My chest heaved, I turned to the door. “ Guard!"
I signaled to one of the guards, standing outside, he rushed in, standing stiff like a rod.
“Call Rosa for me now!”
Yes my lord,” The guard bowed and exited the room, pacing away.
I paced to both length and breadth of the room, trying to calm the storm inside of me till she showed up.
My eyes drifted to the strange she-wolf in front of me. Her name stuck to my brain. Still married to her mop, like they were meant to be together .
In a few minutes Rosa was in the room. She was dressed in her silky gown. Her nails polished, her skin spotless. In fact, she didn't look like a Luna whose pack had faced all kinds of trouble for some time now.
I turned to her and crossed my arms, “Kindly explain to me why you had to employ someone into the palace without letting me know.”
Oh!” Rosa’s voice carried that careless sweetness she used whenever she wanted to calm me. “... you mean lyra?”
She said it. Like it was a mistake. Like it meant nothing. Like someone who had forgotten to close a door.
I am sorry baby.” She gave me that smile, thinking that it would work on me.
But I didn't smile. I didn't even blink.
“...I never meant to do that.”
She quickly studied the reaction on my face. Her smile faded away. She stepped closer. Her perfume filled up the room.
My hand clasped beside my body demanding an answer. The room tensed, my stomach swelled with anger like I should pour it out like a vomit.
“Rosa!” I said calmly, " I only asked you a simple question, I didn't ask you to move closer.”
She stopped instantly. My words hit her like a slap. Her face turned pale. She quickly darted towards lyra who stood at the corner. Her head bowed. Rosa looked back at me. I could see her swallowing her pride. The silence was so heavy in the room that one could use a knife to cut.
Then, Lyra mop fell from her hand. She bent, picking it up and began to back away towards the door.
“She is not staying here, Rosa,” I said calmly, still pressing the venom of anger within.
“She will, Jax. I employed her as someone I can talk to and be close to since you have never been available to fulfill your role as alpha.”
Her words hit me like a slap.
“What do you mean?” I growled.
You know what I mean Jax,” she shot back, “ you have left me alone in this palace. Alone in this life. The only thing left with me is your name and your absence.”
Oh! Beautiful,” I clapped my hands forcing a smile that didn't reach my face.
“But wait a minute, are you both sleeping with each other?”
Her mouth fell open. “ What? Hell No, Jax.”
“Because news like this flies around a lot,” I paced but I just pretended as if I was not aware. Because things have been happening around the palace recently.”
Then the knock at the door. One that came fast and urgent.
A maid pushed the door open, just enough to peek in, her eyes wide with fear. My lord,” she uttered breathlessly, something just happened now… you just have to come and see it.”
“What is that?” I demanded. Still furious with the front and back I was having with Rosa.
It's the prison guard,” she stammered, trying to control her breathing, “ she’s… confessing.”
I sharply turned my gaze to her. “Confessing to what?”
The maid stepped into the room. “To sin. She said she was approached by some group of elders, to spike late lady Mila'
s water with Silencium-9 while in prison, to stop her from speaking and defending herself against the charges leveled against her.”
“Oh! My ….”
