Chapter 25 The Nightmare Of Betrayal.
Chapter 25
Jax’s POV
I found myself sitting on my throne. I was the only one in the palace hall. I looked hectare-skelter, everyone was nowhere to be found.
Even the servants, no one was around.
My throat was dry and I was thirsty.
I need some water.” I commanded. But still there wasn't any response. My voice echoed back to me in the empty room.
I looked around, I could not see a fly, not to talk of a maid passing by , I just needed water to quench this thirst. I needed it badly like my life depends on it.
Someone should please get me water,” I raised my voice a bit louder than the first time.
I started feeling uneasy, sweat dripping down my forehead. I placed my crown from my head on a small stool beside me.
It's like no one is around.” I muttered to myself, eyes darting around the room. “Where would they have gone to?”
Then I saw a maid, coming out from one of the doors, in her hand a tray, a transparent jug, half filled with water and a cup. I couldn't see her face because it was covered with a veil. A silky, transparent one.
I heaved a sigh,” where have you all been, I have been asking your whereabouts?”
No response. She handed me the cup of water and then I brought it closer to my lips.
Then a strange freeze blew between us. Then exposes her face a bit.
I tilted backward, spiraled out of my chair. I hit my butt on the floor.
“Mila!”
“You Bloody bastard! You killed me!”
Please wait mila! Let me explain, Mila.
“It wasn't my fault! They lied to me . They pressured me to speed up your trial.”
“I will make you pay for the evil you did to me.”
“Please don't mila. Please let me explain! They lied to me. I swear by the moon goddess!”
I begged for mercy but you turned your face away. You not only killed me, you killed our pup. Our joy, I will make your life and your existence on this throne a disaster to you. I wiped your face off in the anal of history of this pack.
“I gave you my soul, my body, I trusted you with everything I have. When I needed you to come to my rescue, you turned your back. You made, the earth fed on my… flesh, you pitch your tent with an outsider to mess me up. I begged hard for mercy you didn't show me any!”
I started sprawling like a pup on the floor. I toppled from the throne, to a few steps, to the ground. My once sparkling attire, now stained. My head hit the floor too. I quickly felt a sharp pain. No one was there to come to my aid.
“Everyday of your life and those people that brought me death and that of my pup will be filled with unending pain…”
“Excruciating pain, everyone will see me both in the dream and in life not to dine, joke, commune with you, but to make your life extremely difficult. Your morning, afternoon and evening will be filled with thistle and thorns.
I was still on the floor. She grabbed my neck with her icy hand. Her touch burnt and froze at the same time.
“Mila don't kill me please don't…” I gasped, clawing at her arms, " I know I did you wrong, please Mila…”
Her grip tightened, my vision blurred.
“I will only let you go if you…”
Suddenly I jerked up. My eyes flew wide open. I looked everywhere, I’m still in my room. I’m still in my bed. I’m still in my chamber.
Not in the palace hall. I felt my neck, a bit, to see if everything was still intact. If the choke had stopped my breath. But it didn't.
“It was a dream. Mila?” I whispered in the stillness.
“A… dream?”
I stood up on my feet slowly, slid into my royal slippers. I paused a bit. Reflecting on the dream. I just had.
“Did I do anything wrong to Mila?” I sat back at the edge of my bed ruminating.
Was she framed? Was she lied against? The evidence against her was clear, and even she couldn't deny it. She had poisoned the only drinkable water in the land. They brought evidence to me and I saw it.
My night rob clung to my sweaty skin. I sat back on my bed, this time at the edge of the chair, elbow on my knees, staring at the floor.
If that was a lie, what about my mother's case? I saw the medications she bought for my mother to kill her slowly in her bed?
“Were the medications fabricated? No. I doubt it.” I muttered to myself.
Another thought hit me since she was killed. Didn't you see that all kinds of evil had befallen the packs? Or is this the dream I had that father told me that I had been lied to by the same people who plotted his downfall?
‘Who is lying and who are they lying to? Then why can't you make an investigation. What actually led to your mother's death.’
Do you even think Mila could do it? Killing your mother?’ The word hit me again.
They allow you to kill the love of your life and substitute her with Rosa, her sister. Whom you didn't love, just because Rosa used to take care of my father then when he was sick. Even my father had proposed that we should start something as at that time I had seen my mate and it was Mila, her sister. At the beginning, we made it a private thing for everyone in the pack not to know but got out of hand due to my immaturity.
Then crown it all, here comes elder Vexhood who said the moon goddess had chosen Rosa in place of Mila from the Blackthorn's bloodline not to be wiped off. That the sin of Mila is so grievous in the sight of the gods that gods could not just shy away from. I didn't have any feelings for Rosa. She doesn't feel appealing to me at all. Only a very good carer to my father.
Then I stood on my feet, moving from the bedroom to the outer chamber.
Then I saw a maid, a dark, beautiful black lady bending low and scrubbing the flo
or. She faced the wall at first. Then she turned her face towards me.
Mii…” the word stuck in my mouth.
