Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Cassidy and her wolf stared at each other for several long minutes in silence before Cassi was able to pull her eyes away and look around at the darkness surrounding them. “I.. Where are we?” she asked in a soft but concerned tone to the white wolf sitting at the foot of her bed.
“We are neither here nor there.” The wolf said quietly without looking away. “We are in the before. The space before your dreams generate. With time, you will be able to decide what you see and where you go. For now, you must allow fate to make that choice.”
Cassidy’s brows came together in confusion when the wolf spoke to her and explained she would one day be able to control her dreams on her own. “You mean like how I was able to slow the dreams down?” she asked and her other half nodded.
Time seemed to stand still for Cassidy within this space and when she closed her eyes, feeling tired and drained out of nowhere, she opened them again to find herself back in that time of the fire and attack once again. She had revisited this nightmare so many times. She was no longer terrified as a child might be. The most traumatic experience in her life had plagued her for years. But now, with the help of her wolf, she was able to control it. She was able to slow everything down and examine every last aspect of the fight from her brother to her parents and even the warriors.
Her wolf sighed. A little annoyed sounding as she appeared, keeping a slow pace alongside of Cassidy as she stopped the time within the dream and walked towards her brother with an aching heart. “You will never move past this if you do not see what fate wants you to see.”
Cassidy frowned as she listened to the wolf, she stopping at her brother. She seen the panic and fear in his eyes and her heart hurt for him. She reached up and gently cupped her brothers face, stroking his cheek with her thumb. “I don't know what to even look for.” She said softly. “I wish… I could Have stopped all of this.”
The wolf snorted and shook its head. “Why? If you would have been able to stop it, you probably would have never met your mate. You would have likely died in a later attack.”
“Mmm. I suppose you are right. I wouldn't change the past for what I have now.” Cassidy said before she stepped away from her brother and wandered over to where the main fighting was taking place. The dream looked as it always had, her father fighting, her mother being forced to watch. It wasn't something that liked to experience. She hardly ever focused on her parents or those around her when she came to this particular area of her dream. This time, she looked to her mother’s face and then to the man that was holding her to watch her mate die.
The resemblance hit her like a sack of bricks. The massive male had never stood out to her before, but now she recognized him. “The rogue king…” she whispered and felt her heart beat speed up. “I… I remember him from the other dream. Where I seen Nash and him together.” She said and glanced at her wolf who was looking at the huge man with a bored expression. “Does he know who I am? All he wanted was the white wolf… If… he knew I was their daughter.”
“You would likely be dead already.” The wolf stated.
Cassidy fell into a thoughtful silence, exploring the area but always coming back to the rogue as if perhaps he was the center of this dream. Maybe he was the thing she was supposed to figure out. But who was he? How did he know her parents? Why did he want to kill them like this? She could ask a thousand questions about the man, but no answer was coming forward for her. Cassidy finally sat down next to her wolf and sighed, stroking the white fur of her other half. “I will have to find Jett. He will have the answers.” She said quietly before the dream faded away.

Cassidy woke to the annoying beeping of the heart rate monitor beside her bed. She frowned, and moved slowly, stopping the moment she felt a little bit of resistance on her arm. Looking down, warmth filled her heart and soul seeing James asleep over top of her arm, his fingers entwined with hers. He looked worn down and exhausted. He had changed into clean clothes, showered and his hair was still a little damp. She couldn't imagine a life without him now. Reaching over, she gently brushed her fingers through his black hair. “My Alpha.” She whispered fondly.
James stirred when Cassidy spoke, his green eyes blinking open and instantly going to Cassidy’s face. Squeezing her hand, he groaned and sat up in the chair a little, stretching his back straight before he brought her hand to his lips. He kissed her fingers and nuzzled them with his cheek in an intimate, affectionate way. “I didn't wake you did I?” he asked in concern.
“No… I may have woken You.” She said quietly, wishing this twin size bed was just a little larger so she could get him up onto the mattress with her.
“Are you still Angry with me?” he asked cautiously.
Cassidy pressed her lips together when she was reminded of her anger from earlier. “No. I wasn't mad at you… I was mad at Nash.” She said and sighed, laying her head back against the pillow and looking to the ceiling. “At least he is dead now… One less rogue to worry about.”
James was quiet for a few long seconds before Cassidy looked over to him for confirmation on the rogues death. “No. He lives. I had Jett and then men escort him and the other prisoners to the prison. Giving him that BlackStone treatment as you described.”
Cassidy frowned for a moment, but sighed and relaxed, nodding and closing her eyes. “As long as he is never set free James. He doesn't deserve to live.”
“I agree. I know what he did to you…” James said quietly and held fast to Cassidy’s hand when she tried to pull it away, he bringing it to his chest over his heart. “I swear to you. He will never see the light of day again and I will serve him justice personally.” He said in just above a whisper.
Cassidy became flushed, but she didn't take her hand away from James. She felt as much comfort from his touch as he did and she was reluctant to break that contact even if it was him holding her hand. “He drugged me James. I couldn't fight back. I tried.” She said in a hushed, shamed tone, looking away from him.
James moved, standing from the chair and leaning over top of Cassidy. He took her by her chin and brought her face up so he could look over her. “Do not hide from me she-wolf. I know your strength. I do not blame you and I do not judge you.” He said softly before he leaned his head down and gave her a gentle, loving kiss.
His words made Cassidy want to cry. She felt the emotion building in her chest as he spoke. She judged herself. She did so harshly and had felt so much anger and hatred not only at Nash but towards herself as well. Hearing James say he didn't blame her, it lifted a weight off her shoulders. Cassidy smiled against James’ mouth and returned his kiss, linking her arms up around his neck when he involuntarily let out a happy sounding growl.
“Oh… My… I… uh… I will come back!” Jasmine Sage said from the door when she stepped in without knocking to the Alpha and Luna making out. She dropped her clipboard and made a squeak of a sound when she bent over to pick it up and the pens that fell from her lab coat pocket as well when she leaned over.
James grinned and Cassidy blushed at being caught in an intimate moment between the two of them. “You can stay Dr. Sage.” James said and gave Cassidy a quick peck on her nose before he sat down in the chair again with a grin on his face, taking hold of his mates hand again as the doctor got herself collected again. Cassidy gave James a quick, scolding look for grinning like a Cheshire cat at making the doctor uncomfortable, but she quickly grinned as well and shook her head. ► You are terrible ◄ Cassidy teased him over their bond which got a chuckle out of James.
“When can she come home to the pack house Doc?” James asked asked as Jasmine came over to the bed and handed Cassidy a few packets of papers with discharge instructions.
“She can leave in an hour as soon as this Iv bag is gone. She is a little dehydrated.” Jasmine said as she was getting a new fluid bag ready to hang.
“James…” Cassidy whispered as she was reading the instructions.
“Any special instructions? She was drugged and had a rough few days…” James asked and Cassidy shoved the discharge papers at him, he picking them up and scanning over them. “Rest. Low stress. Fluids…” he read out loud and then stopped, frowning down at the papers and then looking down at Cassidy who had gone quiet, looking down at her hands clenched tightly in her lap. He handed the papers back to Dr. Sage with the same frown. “I think you gave us the wrong papers. She doesn't need that prescription.” He said flatly.
Jasmine looked over to the papers James was holding out to her to take back and she smiled brightly. “I assure you Alpha Black. Those are her papers.”
“James…” Cassidy whispered again to try and pull his attention, reaching over to take the papers from him.
“Your pup will be arriving in a short few months. She needs the prenatal.” The doctor said with a happy smile.
