Chapter 68
Chapter 68
James stood stock still, looking from the doctor and down to the papers with the instructions on them. His brain wasn't processing exactly what the doctor had said. He heard her. Every last word. Yet he just wasn't expecting the doctor to say anything about Cassidy being pregnant. He looked over to Cassidy who had not moved or looked up, his eyes snapping back to Dr. Sage. “How? She hasn't shown any signs… And… The heat was a week ago. She should have known. Wouldn't she?” he asked Jasmine with a confused look on his face.
“Alpha Black. I am sure you of all people know exactly how children are made and you don't need a lesson. Our Luna is probably only now starting to experience the signs.” Jasmine chided him with a cool tone as she finished hanging the bag of fluids for Cassidy. “Her blood work does not lie. She is well and good seeded with a son or daughter. “I would say expect a late winter pup.” She said softly and then reached down, giving Cassidy’s arm a gentle squeeze seeing the Luna's quiet distress over the news. “If you have any questions at all, Just use the call button. I will give you two some time alone.” She said to the both of them, quickly stepping outside and closing the door behind her.
James was left standing, staring at the paper in his hand, then looking at the other papers for first few months information. Wolves had shortened pregnancies compared to humans. Instead of the full on forty weeks, theirs were full term any time between thirty and thirty two weeks. His heart began to beat hard. Her heat had been so intense they didn't even eat through it. Barely drank. Using protection had not been the top thing on his mind. It hadn't been anywhere on his mind when every sense and instinct had been driven by the need to mount her over and over.
“James?” Cassidy repeated his name again, looking up at him with a guarded expression on her face. “Say something please?”
James looked down at Cassidy finally when she spoke before he sat down in the chair and laid the papers down on the bed next to her. He reached over and took her hands she had clamped together tightly, cupping them both in his hands as he leaned towards her. “What is there to say?” he said with a serious expression that broke into a bright and happy smile. “You… are giving me a baby. I never thought about having a kid. Ever. Never crossed my mind until now.” He said and reached up, cupping her cheek lovingly. “I think I'm still in shock… but… the god and goddess are blessing us. Thank you Cassidy, My Luna.”
His tone was so warm and loving, it brought tears to Cassidy’s eyes and she returned his smile briefly before the worry came back. “I… James… What if it isn't… What if it is Nash’s?” she asked quickly, just getting her concern and distress out there and off her chest. She was so confident with most things when it came to speaking with James, but this was something she was so ashamed of. She had suspected maybe she got with pup when she started to feel tired and drained and sick in her last day of captivity. When James lost his smile at her question she moved in the bed, coming up to her knees. She and her wolf felt so ashamed they had not been able to fight back or be in control of at least their body. All she could do was lay in forced submission under the rogue. Which at the moment had been more infuriating for her wolf than what was being physically done. “I'm so sorry James. I couldn't stop him.”
“Hey hey hey… Whoa.” Jame said, standing and pulling Cassidy into his arms when she started to apologize and panic. He wrapped her up into a tight embrace and lowered his face to lay his cheek against her hair. “You have nothing to be sorry for Cassidy. Ever. He is going to wish he never even looked at you when I get my hands on him.” James said with a low growl before he nuzzled into her hair and closed his eyes while taking a deep breath of her scent.
“What if the baby is his?” she murmured against James’ neck.
James held still for a few seconds before he pulled away and looked down at her and the stress on her face. He thought maybe, she was just toying with him but the grief in her eyes was true. “Remind me to beat the shit out of Jett again.” He said with a growl and brought his hands up to cup her face, bringing her attention solely to him. “The pup is mine Cassidy. Do you know why Jett had you locked in that hotel room when you went into that false heat before you arrived here?”
Cassidy’s brows came together when he said he was going to beat Jett again and then lowered when he asked if she knew why Jett had locked her up. “Because he couldn't control himself?” she asked hesitantly.
James shook his head and gently stroked one of his hands through her hair. “That… yes. Just like I couldn't control myself, he had to get you contained. Females who do not want children or are not ready for them lock themselves in a special apartment here in the hospital so they can go through their heat by themselves. Otherwise, they get pregnant. You can only get pregnant when your in the heat Cassidy. Why has Jett never taught you that?”
Cassidy looked up at James and bit her lower lip as she processed the information he gave her. When he asked about Jett and his lack of parenting skills, she grinned and laughed, wrapping her arms around James and tucking her face into his neck. “He was kinda just like a big brother and treated me like one of the boys. He was mortified when I had to start shopping for bras… He isn't very good with girls or teaching them about girl things.” She said in an amused tone before she lifted her head and smiled happily. “Take pity on him. If we ever have a girl you might have to have the same talk with her.”
Chuckling, James carefully laid Cassidy back down in the bed, giving her a loving kiss before he sat down next to her side. “Alright. I wont. I promise.” He said and reached down to lay his large hand over her belly, his expression to something guarded. He truly never had thought about children, it put a new perspective on his life and his position. “If you need to talk about anything that happened to you Cassidy, you know I am here for you. Right?” he asked in a quiet tone, worried that what Nash had done to her hurt her in more ways than one.
“James…” she said softly and smiled as she relaxed into the fluffy pillows Behind her. “I'm fine. Really.” She said softly and covered his hand on her belly with her own. “The only thing that truly upset me was the lack of control I had. Its hard to explain… I think it is because my wolf and I are both alpha and when that control was taken from us, we kind of went a little crazy in my own head.” She said quietly and squeezed his hand before she smiled, pushing that experience to the back of her head. “Who is going to tell your mother? She has been waiting for this since I was in the prison I think.” She said with a grin.
James smirked and shook his head a little. “We both can… But I don't want this out in the open just yet. Jasmine will hold it as a secret to her grave and I just want to have this little secret between us for awhile. I want to have a chance to enjoy it for a few days.” He said quietly, looking up when there was a soft knock to the door. “Come in.”
Dr. Sage poked her head in when James called for her to come in. She smiled and stepped into the room, looking between the happy looking Alpha pair and let out a sigh of relief. She worried that Alpha Black and Luna were upset over the news with how they had reacted when she had left but seeing the happy loving look the couple were giving each other was all she needed to see to know they were alright. “I brought some information packages for you Miss Roan and a bottle of prenatal vitamins. Our babies grow faster than human ones in the first half of our pregnancies, then they level out for the last half. So you will probably feel tired and sick. Mood swings are common, so please forgive her if she cuts your clothes up like your mother did to your father Alpha black.” She said with a teasing grin that got a giggle from Cassidy.
“Macy did what?” Cassi asked, looking up at James who groaned and looked up at the ceiling.
“My father would tell us all when we were pups that when mother was pregnant with us, she was a little more…” he paused to look for the right word.
“Intense?” Jasmine supplied the word with a grin.
“I was going to say crazy but that works too.” He said, smiling over at Cassidy when she laughed again, loving the sound coming from his mate. “She was very Intense… And when father would do something that would upset her, she took her scissors to his shirts. Please don't cut up my stuff if I make you upset. “ He said with a grin.
Cassidy glanced up at Jasmine when the woman closed her IV line and began to take it out. “I promise I wont cut up your stuff as long as you don't upset me.” She said with a grin while watching what the doctor was doing and when Jasmine was finished, she looked up at James. “I would like to go home now please.” She said softly as she got up out of the bed.
“There is a clean scrub set in the bathroom for you Luna that you can wear out of here. You are free to leave whenever you please.” Jasmine said, helping Cassidy to her feet and seeing the woman was steady, she gave the couple an encouraging smile before she left.
James waited quietly as Cassidy changed and when she was finished, he had insisted he carry her but was shot down, she insisting she walk. They left the hospital together, James carrying the little baggy with their paperwork and pregnancy information and Cassidy holding onto his arm. Everything was quiet on the walk back until they neared the pack house. The fighting was heard first. They knew at once who it was, the two aggressive sounding voices carrying from inside the house. James went into the pack house first, followed closely by Cassidy, both stopping at the door.
“YOU WILL CALM DOWN!” Jett roared at Alaric, pinning the other Beta on the floor, both of them looking up when there was a growl from the alpha.
“What exactly is going on here!?”
