Chapter 66

Chapter 66
Nash’s eyes widened when James accused him of enjoying the white wolfs body before he took her to the king. No one would get to have her then and it was unlikely she would have seen the light of day ever again. He had two options here, deny it and pray the alpha believed him or just come clean. He was good as dead anyways.

“Answer me! I smell your scent all over her skin!” James roared at Nash and took a step forwards threateningly.

“Yes! I did!” Nash blurted out, bowing his head in a sign of submission to the pissed off alpha of BlackStone. “Seven times…” he said in a low tone. “Seven times she spread her legs for me right where Jennifer did.” He looked up at James, giving the alpha a challenging expression.

Fur began to ripple across James’ body as the Alpha tried to control himself, but the taunt from the captain had that control slipping through his fingers like sand as his wolf battled to be free and bring his own special form of justice down onto the rogues head for so much as looking at his mate. James took one step forward before Jett was intercepting, placing himself between Nash and James.

“Alpha. Stop.” Jett said in a calm voice. “He wants you to kill him. If you kill him, we wont be able to get any information out of him. Stop with this aggression he is only trying to bait you.”

With Alaric gone for the moment, James was glad he had given Jett the opportunity to step up into a secondary beta position. Much like his own beta, Jett was born into the position and had been second in command his entire adult life. Jett's calm demeanor and words brought James down from needing to shift and rip the man to pieces to a much more calm and logical level. He looked pass Jett and scowled at Nash. “Take him… with the rest of the prisoners to the prison for justice. Get him into the isolation unit.” He said and took a step back as a few warriors came up to get the captain into cuffs. “No one feeds him. No one talks to him.” He commanded in a chilling tone.

“What?! No! Just kill me now! I fucked her… and she enjoyed it. Moaned so prettily for me too!” Nash said, struggling and fighting when it became clear that James had made the decision to put Nash into his prison. It was well known far and wide that the BlackStone pack had the most efficient ways of getting anything they wanted out of their captives. Death was always the better choice than being taken below ground.

James watched while Jett quickly went to work getting the rogue captain gagged to silence him, secured and onto his feet, marching him along with the handful of surviving rogues back towards BlackStone territory.

“Alpha…”

“What?” James asked, snapping at Jaxson who had started to go through the maps and paperwork that was remaining in the tent.

Jaxson took no offense to his adopted brothers tone when James snapped towards him. He couldn't blame the man for being upset and barely hanging onto control after the last few says of hell for everyone. “You may want to take a look at these…” he said holding up a stack of papers before putting them back into the box as James came over and started to look through them.

Copies of receipts and bills of sale for what looked like people were stacked neatly in a box. Humans and wolves alike. Hundreds of them. “What in the hell is this? Are they involved in some kind of slave trade or something?” James asked out loud as he went through the papers identifying men, women and children of all ages. When there was a loud, sudden growl, James looked up from the documents to Jaxson, his brows coming together in confusion.

Jaxson had his face buried in a cream throw blanket that had been hung over the back of a chair. The wolfs hands were trembling as it held the fabric up against his face while he took deep breaths of the faint scent that lingered.

“Jax what is-”

“Mate.” The word was gruff and blunt as it came out of the gamma’s mouth followed by another low growl before Jaxson clutched the blanket to his chest and looked around almost frantically. “She was here. I have a mate… I have a mate!” he said with a wide bright smile on his face as he turned to James with the news. However as it dawned on him that his mate was not there any longer he lost the smile and started to search through Nash’s things while holding the throw. “She was here… I can smell her!”

James watched the emotions playing across his brother’s face and chuckled lowly, remembering how he had felt the first time he had scented Cassidy. He damn near went wild over it. Finding a bonded wolf to live out your life with was so rare, he only knew of one elder couple in the pack and his parents other than himself and Cassidy that were mate bonds. He smiled when Jaxson went to searching for more of the scent and quickly lost his smile as well when Jaxson's possessive growls turned to ones of anger and frustrations. “Jax..” He went to his brother and gripped the mans shoulder firmly to bring the wolf back into the moment. “We will find her. I promise.”

Jaxson looked like a pup that lost his best friend and he nodded. “The scent is faint. Maybe a few days old. But she isn't here among the others.” He said and shook his head, steeling himself against the turmoil rising within his soul. “Why don't you go back home. Luna is going to need you there with her after everything she has been through with the rogues.” Jaxson suggested, trying to focus on something other than his own mates discovery.

James sighed and shook his head. “No. I want to, believe me. But I have to go and send the two other packs home first. It wont take me long. Make sure everything is packed and brought back to the office building so we can all go over everything piece by piece. Anything we can learn from any of this about their king or where they are at, is what we will be going after. So try to keep an eye out for something like that. I will see you at home.” He said to his brother before he shifted down into his wolf, nodding to two of the handful of guards that remained at the camp to go with him as he headed south through the pass to send the other packs home.

Cassidy had been in the hospital for two hours now and her patience was wearing thin. She had been put in a hospital gown and ordered into the bed by Jasmine who was more of a tyrant when it came to authority than James was. Doctor Jasmine Sage ran a tight ship when it came to her patients and she did not allow arguments. Especially when it came to her Luna.

Once she was settled into the bed and hooked up to all kinds of machines, her blood taken and an IV line hooked up, that was when she was finally able to get some breathing space from all the nurses surrounding her. More than once her temper snapped when she felt crowded and she was thankful to Hunter when he finally told the nurses to stop fussing over their Luna and to get out. Hunter had not left her side. He would not even stand outside, firmly stating that he would not leave his little sister out of his sight until their Alpha had come back. It was endearing, and frustrating all at the same exact time. Even with her annoyance towards Hunter and his loyalty, he was keeping her amused.

Hunter was clearly smitten with Jasmine. He flirted with the doctor and kept trying to engage her into conversation but the woman would only give him short replies and rebuked any flirting that came her way. Cassidy seen however, the glances Jasmine would send to Hunter. The twitch of a smile when the man would flirt with her and the pink blush on her cheeks. Cassidy rolled her eyes when Hunter tried again unsuccessfully to flirt with the doctor. “Thats it. Unless you want me to leave this room so you two can just fuck each other and get it out of your system… both of you can leave. Ive had enough. I want to be alone… NOW GET OUT!” she yelled at the two of them and her wolf must have been coming through with a bit of a command because both paled a little, gave short bows and murmured excuses before they left.

Cassidy relaxed finally with a sigh, closing her eyes and trying to block everything out. All she wanted was some peace and quiet. Some time to process everything that had happened over the last week. Everything she had seen and heard. She had hardly slept more than fifteen minutes or so at a time since she was kidnapped from her own home and just laying in a clean, warm and soft bed was a great comfort. She was safe.

Cassidy had only just closed her eyes when she heard an odd sound, and when she opened them, her wolf was sitting at the foot of her bed, gazing intently at her before the world around them fell away into darkness.
