Chapter 65

Chapter 65
Alaric felt his blood run cold when the wolf that was insane enough to hold the Luna as a prisoner, threatened to spill his secrets. To out him for the sins he had committed. He didn't know exactly what Roman knew, but if he could threaten it at all, it was enough to do damage for everything the Beta had worked for. If he did tell… All that the Beta had accomplished would be stripped from him. Alaric’s anger shot through the roof and a red haze filled his mind. He had to take the threat out and now. Acting without thinking, Alaric shifted and charged for Roman with all the power of a pissed off bull to eliminate the man before he could tell anything he knew.

James watched in fear as his best friend lost control over what James thought was nothing more than a bluff towards the Beta of the pack. He could feel his packs stress for their Luna weighing on him like a pallet of bricks. He could feel Cassidy’s emotional turmoil like a vice around his heart. James was doing his very best to stay calm, try to talk Roman down enough for the male to take the gun away from his mates head. They could heal over time, but there were some injuries that were fatal. The last thing he wanted to do was make the guard angrier than he was when Cassidy was in such a vulnerable position. “Alaric NO!” he yelled, just as the Beta was leaping to attack.

The sound of a gunshot was so loud in the silence of the small canyon where Nash had set up his camp, all the remaining wolves jumped in surprise. James was already charging forward to try to intercept Alaric, but the wolf was already colliding with Roman and Cassidy as the shot rang out. Blood misted and sprayed into the air as the three fell to the ground, all three bodies still for a few heartbeats of time.

James would have made it two steps before Alaric was up, snarling like a wolf gone feral and shaking the limp body of Roman while he drug the man away from Cassidy. He looked down, afraid of what he was going to see but was flooded with relief seeing his mate already scrambling to get away from Alaric and the guard. “Are you hurt?!” he asked, grabbing Cassidy by her upper arms and hauling her up to her feet so he could inspect her from head to toe for any kind of damage.

Cassidy shook her head and held onto James’ arms, her head swimming from what just happened. She wasn't physically hurt but she was so stressed out from the last few days and then just a trigger pull away from death… She glanced over at Alaric and the gruesome damage he was inflicting on the guard to ensure he was dead. Her stomach knotted and she pushed away from James to turn to the tree and brace herself against it as she dry heaved, thankful for the empty stomach.

James let out a breath of relief when Cassidy seemed fine. Alaric wasn't worth confronting right now when he was so aggressive. Roman had been shot through the temple, the caliber of the bullet and damage much more than a handgun could do. He looked to Nash first, the captain looking as shocked as half of the wolves surrounding him, his attention being drawn to another wolf walking causally down from the path leading up the side of the canyon.

Hunter had been with his brothers group but had been lagging behind a little. He knew they were bringing guns, so he was going to bring one as well. The second youngest of the Black’s had taken then time to sneak his way up onto a ridge with his hunting rifle and get set up to assist his older brother if things went south for the Alpha. He was not much of a warrior. Alaric had little patience for him and he hated to be in physical training all day long. But he was a hell of a shot when it came down to firing in the range when it came to the firearm training. Even hunting trips he had the cleanest kills. It made sense to Hunter to get above the action and keep an eye on his big brother’s back and help protect the alpha.

Hunter watched through his scope when things came to a screeching halt and their now former guard decided to take Cassidy as a hostage. For what, he didn't know. Nor did he care at this point. The man was dead for laying his hands on his baby sister. Hunter had never sniped off another wolf before and while he had plenty of patience, the stress he felt made him anxious knowing at any moment Roman could end Cassidy’s life. He just had to wait for the perfect moment… Thankfully, when Roman bent down to remove the lock that kept Cassidy’s chain locked to the tree, it was the perfect moment when roman moved the gun slightly away from her temple.

One shot was all it took. The perfect timing when the Luna was safe from an involuntary discharge and the man began to drop right as the Beta plowed into them. Hunter came down quickly from his firing place, anxious to make sure Cassidy was alright but forced himself to slow his pace and slap on that sarcastic smirk he was known for. “Someone had to save my little sister. You were taking your sweet time.” He taunted James which just earned him a glare from the Alpha. Hunter shrugged and looked to Cassidy who seemed to be at least holding herself together well for what happened to her.

“Thank you Hunter.” James said gruffly. He and Hunter had never really gotten along. They were too close and competed far too heavily with each other before they got their wolves. His younger brothers prankster personality always rubbed him the wrong way, but he was thankful for him in this moment and for what he had done for Cassidy. James turned his attention to Nash, who was swiftly coming to terms with the reality of being surrounded by the BlackStone pack and what was left alive of his unit being rounded up.

The Alpha growled lowly, a hand gently rubbing Cassidy’s back as she continued to try and empty her stomach. “Get him in cuffs… and get him to the prison. Show him Blackstone's… hospitality… for those who endanger the packs Luna.” He said in a chilling cold tone.

“No…” Cassidy hissed lowly, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand as she straightened and glared over at Nash. “Kill him. Right now. I want him dead. If you don't do it… I will do it myself!” she snapped angrily, her eyes lit up with the rage she felt towards the captain.

“He gets Justice Cassidy. I will let you do whatever you want to him once he has been sentenced. Right now, he is going to the prison.” He said and looked around for Alaric to get the Beta onto doing his job, but the wolf was no where to be seen. “And you are going to the hospital.”

“What?! NO! I'm fine… I don't need to see the doctor. What I need to see is that… rogue… dead.” Cassidy said stubbornly, growling when James gripped her with both arms and moved her towards Hunter. “James!?”

“Take her to Dr. Sage. No where else and she is to see no one else. I will come to her once I have finished here.” James ordered Hunter and when his brother hesitated to take Cassidy when she gave him a glare that rivaled his mothers, James growled. “Now.”

Cassidy felt outraged. Her wolf was blood thirsty, wanting to rip Nash apart like Alaric had done to Roman. He had violated her and hurt her pack members multiple times. She wanted his head on a platter. Except James was standing in her way. Commanding her to go to the doctor. “I don't need to see the doctor!” she snapped and went as far to bare her teeth at Hunter who looked unsure of who to listen to.

James was trying to be patient with her. Trying to get her to safety and trying his damnedest to get her to the hospital where he knew she was in the best of hands while he finished business here. When she continued to balk at his gentle command, his temper broke and he turned her around to face him. James’ fingers bit into her arms and he gave her a little shake out of pure frustration. “YOU WILL GO AND THAT IS THE END OF IT!” he snarled right into her face, his booming voice commanding silence over the canyon pass. “I am not asking. Go with my brother. I trust no one else right now and it is too dangerous for you here.” He said in a quieter, calmer tone as he looked down at Cassidy.

Her heart skipped a few beats when James yelled at her in a mixture of trepidation and… arousal? Her wolf was feeling more than pleased with itself for making James so upset and Cassidy had to clench her teeth to keep from retorting back to the alpha to make his temper ignite even more. There was always time for that later. Yet when James softened his tone on her and expressed his feelings and why he wanted her gone, Cassidy could not fault the man. She turned her golden eyes to Nash and growled. “Enjoy your stay within the BlackStone Territory.” She said in a sweet, but deadly sounding voice.

Cassidy stepped away from James and went to Hunter who was suddenly grinning like a fool. “A Luna after my own heart.” He teased before lifting Cassidy into his arms and giving his brother a nod. “Ill have her home before midnight. No pumpkins here!” Hunter said before taking off towards BlackStone, several of the guards splitting off from the camp to escort the Luna back home.

Nash knew he was defeated, and with BlackStone surround him and only about ten of the rogues left alive all being tied up to be transported, he guessed to the prison as well as him, he was already going to his knees when the younger identical brother of James left with Cassidy. He was bringing his hands up behind his head, only to stop halfway and freeze when the Alpha snapped his attention to him, the mans green eyes nearly black with rage and aggression, the growl in the Alpha’s voice sending a shiver of fear down Nash’s spine.

“Did you enjoy my mates body?”
