Chapter 64
Chapter 64
BlackStone pack moved as a silent, well trained unit through the trees and boulders towards the rogue encampment. Cassidy heard the whisper from James and she looked right at him, replying with venom in her voice. She wanted them dead. Every last one of them, especially Nash. When she head James, relief and happiness had flooded through her unlike anything she had felt before. It took a great deal of self control for her to remain nonchalant. Even more for her to slowly sit back down at the base of the tree into the freezing muddy mess. When the warriors came in, she wasn't going to be able to do anything to help them against these rogues while she was chained like she was.
Cassidy settled herself down and leveled her gaze at Nash with a cold, haughty glare she had been giving him since she was able to regain control of her body again. The captain was not as rushed as everyone else seemed to be in the camp. He taking his Time to pack away his maps and paperwork. The wolf might have looked like her father, the exact copy of him, but when she questioned him over the last few days of her captivity it became clear he had no idea who Johnathan Roan was or even the Wildwoods pack. Nash was just a little older than herself and this was his first solo run of attacks and he was quite smug about it, bragging how the kings witch made it so easy. He had even gone as far as to tell her information she was sure wasn't supposed to be shared outside of anyone who had any kind of ranking within the rogues. Some kind of trafficking operation where the rogue king was collecting anyone and anything of interest. Being a white wolf apparently put her right at the top of that list.
There was not a single sound from the pack that surrounded the unit of rogues until the first warning that they were being attacked came from one of the rogue patrols, screaming as he was attacked by two of the BlackStone warriors at once. As quickly as he had started to scream he was silenced and the entire camp erupted into the sounds of wolves going into battle.
Nash shouted orders, tearing his own clothes from his body before he shifted down into his wolf as well, joining in with a handful of rogues that ran past to clash with the first wave of the BlackStone warriors that was led by James. James and Nash collided head on, both massive wolves ripping into each other as viciously as they could. The warriors from the pack were unfazed when the first of the gunshots went off. The rogues however, all stopped fighting at once in a collective confusion before they focused on the select few BlackStone wolves that carried the guns.
The captain and the alpha broke away from each other to catch their breaths and size up the other wolf. There was disdain in Nash’s eyes for the BlackStone alpha that was breaking wolf laws by bringing in a gun to a dog fight. James knew what he had authorized was wrong. There was no Honor in it, but he was desperate to get Cassidy back and he was willing to do anything to make it happen. Both men bared their teeth, growling savagely before they once again threw themselves at each other in another round of each male trying to either injure the other enough to make them fall or pin the other to the ground in a show of dominance to one another.
The attack was going well and the BlackStone wolves were winning, taking down every rogue they could find and preventing any from escaping back down through the pass where the other two packs were waiting just incase they either got out or BlackStone failed. James wanted this win for himself. It was personal. He was winning too, wearing down Nash and inflicting enough serious damage on their leader that between the two of them, the ground was stained red from their injuries. James had the upper hand, at least until he heard Cassidy scream his name within his mind over their bonded link. Her voice was enough of a distraction that he looked up from what he was doing, opening himself up for Nash to go for his throat.
► James! ◄
Cassidy had been trying to break free while everyone was distracted through all of the chaos. The warriors had the rogues so preoccupied with fighting it was her only chance to somehow break the chains that kept her to the tree. No matter how hard she tried, she could not break the welds on the chains nor the collar around her neck. She was struggling, pulling on the chain with all of her strength when the hot barrel of a recently discharged gun pressed against the side of her temple.
“Dont. Move.”
The voice sent chills down Cassidy’s spine and every hair on her body stood on end. She knew that voice.
“Drop the chain.”
She obeyed, letting the heavy links fall through her fingers to the ground, her golden eyes staring straight ahead. “You don't have to do this…” she whispered softly when the man used his free hand to take the chain and twist it around one of her arms, pulling her other arm back behind her and then wrapping them together to keep control of the she-wolf.
“Oh yes I do. You ruined EVERYTHING! Now get on your knees!”
Cassidy slowly went down to her knees as the man turned her to face James as Nash struggled to keep the alpha down. Her heart was racing as she looked at the rest of the wolves. Blackstone warriors had stopped fighting, letting the few rogues that were left alive go to run and escape as silence fell on the camp other than the metallic clicks of hammers being backed on the handguns as they aimed at her and the man behind her. The silence that was only interrupted by a few aggressive growls was the only thing that got through to Nash and James. James had pulled away from the rogue and was trying to get some space between himself and the man when he looked up to see one of his very own men holding a gun to his mates head.
Nash was just as alarmed as James when he seen the white wolf at the mercy of one of the more sadistic rogues he had in camp. He moved away from James, quickly shifting back into his human form. “What are you doing?!” he all but hissed.
When Nash shifted, James did as well. Both the men were seriously injured but the situation had both of them completely ignoring the pain to focus on the bigger threat at the moment. James growled loudly and started to walk towards Cassidy and the wolf, but his mates cry of distress halted him when the man yanked on the chain, bringing her arms up painfully behind her while pressing the gun more firmly to her head. .
Roman Sullivan had been a prison guard since the place had been built nearly seventy five years ago in Julian Blacks rein. He had been feeding information to the rogues for tens of years. He orchestrated the attack on the prison through whispered suggestions to one of the underlings that nearly worshiped him. He had been playing both sides of the coin in hopes of making it big, getting the white wolf to the king and being recognized for his service all at the same time, taking down the pack he had grown to hate over the years. The attack James decided to lead against the rogues was just too tempting to pass it up when it gave him such a good opportunity to try and get her out of there without being suspected by either side. That was the plan… until the other packs and the guns were brought in and there were not enough rogues to be able to slip through with Cassidy to get away. “I am doing what needs to be done. She should have been moved days ago, but you chose to fuck her and hang around. I was going to deliver her… but now we are trapped.” He snapped at Nash.
The news had James taking a few more steps forward and Roman dragged Cassidy back a few paces. “Ah ah ah pup. You stay there… Or send a prayer up to the goddess for her right now.” Roman warned the alpha. “She should not be allowed to live… the abomination she is. She should have died after you turned her Black. You should have just let us have our fun with her when we wanted to. But no, you always had your beta watching over her every damn second.” He growled and looked over to Alaric with a disgusted sneer crossing his features. “Dont think I don't know about you… And what you did.” He said and spat on the ground before he slowly drug Cassidy back towards the tree to the lock that was keeping her chained there.
James glanced to Alaric who seemed to pale at the wolfs words and then flush red, his beta looking ready to kill after those comments. “Whatever was done… is done. You don't need to take her anywhere. You can go free. I will guarantee it.” James tried to convince the man he had trusted as one of his guards since he began being alpha. One of the men he grew up with. “Leave Cassidy here and you and the rest of the rogues here can go free.” He coaxed Roman quietly, watching as the man pulled a key from his pocket and bent to unlock the link of chains. James and Cassidy locked eyes briefly for a moment, trying to draw strength from each other just before he seen Alaric shifting and then running for the man.
James had hardly any time to react and Cassidy was watching him, too stressed out to reach along their link to him to tell him just to let her go, it would be alright. She couldn't stand to see any more of her pack injured or dead because of her, because of the wolf that had his hands on her. She didn't know what Alaric was doing either.
All Cassidy was aware of in that moment, was the sudden fearful expression on Jame’s face. Nash reaching out as if he could grab Roman himself. The sudden jerk to her body and the deafening sound of gunfire.
