Chapter 36
Chapter 36
Kaiden’s POV
My eyes burned in anger as I walked through the thick forest, the air filled with the chirping of birds and the sounds of animals as they scurried away for safety. I had stepped out to hunt because I was infuriated by everything that was happening in the palace.
I thought the hunt was going to clear Damien and Amelia off my head, but it didn't. The image of how she fed Damien water popped into my head again, and I became more furious. As I strode the hunting ground in anger, I didn't spare any small animals that I came across—I shot them all dead as if they were the reason behind my anger.
I couldn’t believe that Amelia thought it was necessary to get close to the man who had hurt and betrayed her just to get her revenge. I wondered when all of that was going to end, I was tired of pretending that I wasn’t hurt or moved by Kaiden’s relationship with her whenever I was in their presence.
I reminisced over the good times we spent together before we set out to the Bloodmoon pack. It was as though the pack took my happiness from me, I had never felt so far from Amelia ever since I met her. I saw her every day but it was as though she was apart from me.
My heart breaks every day as the relationship between her and Kaiden tends to get stronger. I continued to walk deep into the forest as I killed every small animal that caught my sight with my sharp claws. My wolf roared, my claws tearing at the squirrel I caught.
My whole body was covered with blood as I devoured the animals mercilessly, blood coating my beast tongue. It was as though I felt a sense of peace and joy as I murdered the small animals, the taste of the blood spurred me on. I roamed the forest aimlessly as I roared at anything that came to my sight.
I couldn't believe Amelia could go as far as agreeing to be friends with Damien just to take her revenge. She was going too far with everything she did—farther than what he had planned. I never saw any valid reason why she had to maintain any close relationship with that asshole.
I was jealous and pained anytime I saw Damien enjoying the privilege that was supposed to be mine. He didn't deserve any of the attention that he was getting from Amelia, not after everything she had made her go through. My heart thundered as I raced up the mountain, rocks breaking free under my palm threatening to take me down with them.
But my wolf and I leap to safety just as they crash down the steep incline. I charged forward through the thick forest as I continued burning in anger. Amelia had no idea how all her actions broke my heart into pieces. I never wanted to see her talking, laughing, and walking with him.
As I remembered the day I stumbled on them chatting happily in the garden all alone, I became more furious. It became clear to me that I was pained and jealous of the way Amelia tended to show Damien more care and attention than me. I was very jealous to the point that I wanted to tear Damien into pieces with my paws.
I became so scared of losing my Amelia to that asshole. I wished she could just see things from my perspective and understand that getting close to Damien was not the best approach to taking her so-called revenge. I could help her devise another strategy to take her revenge, we could come up with another plan.
But she was hell-bent on getting close to Damien first, before taking the revenge. Everything that was happening got too much for me to bear, I had thought coming out to hunt would relieve my heart of its pain. But it was as though the hunt didn’t help, their thoughts kept crossing my mind.
I was so scared of losing Amelia to Damien,’ what if their old fire rekindled? What if Damien makes her fall in love with him again?’ my heartbeat elevated as these thoughts crossed my mind. I wondered if these same thoughts had ever crossed Amelia’s heart.
I didn't want to get in her way or overstep my boundaries again. I didn't know how to make her see things the right way and convince her that there were other ways she could take her revenge without having to form any unnecessary relationship with Damien.
I had left the palace angrily because I couldn’t endure everything that was happening anymore. I was tired of pretending to be happy when I wasn’t, pretending that I was with everything they did together. I was never happy even once in the palace as my only source of happiness drifted away from me.
I charged deep into the forest, my paws scratching the ground angrily like I wanted to tear the ground apart. I had been hunting for days like a rogue, ever since I left the palace. I felt a little bit better, at least I wouldn’t see the two of them together as far as I am in the thick forest.
I was so scared of Amelia falling back in love with Damien, I knew she wouldn’t need me again once she fell in love with him. ‘Does she still have feelings for him?’ I had thought to myself. I was so scared that Kaiden might get to know who the real person behind the veil was and they may eventually fall in love with each other.
Many thoughts ran through my mind as I came to a stop in front of a huge tree that was in the middle of the thick forest. I wanted to go back to the pack but I couldn’t bear to see Amelia and Damien together again, with her being lovey-dovey with him.
I wasn’t comfortable that I left her all alone with that asshole. I wanted to go back to her but the thought of seeing Damien all over her made me uncomfortable and not want to go. I never wanted to leave Amelia all alone by herself in that palace.
I never wanted to see them together, unless there was something important in his pack but at that moment there was none. I walked closer to the huge tree and sat down to catch my breath and have some rest. My exerted body was cooled by the chilling air. After a short while, I decided to shift back into my human form.
My claws disappear and my fangs recede, and my vision settles back to normal as my wolf pulls away from my eyes too. My furs disappeared and in a short while, I was back fully in my human form again. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching me and I quickly stood up. I knew I came into the forest alone and I was sure no one saw me enter the forest.
I stood ready to pounce on who the predator was, before I caught sight of a lady—it was Elara. My body relaxed as I wondered how she knew I was in the forest hunting. She walked closer to me and came to a halt right in front of me. We stared at each other in silence for a while before I broke the silence with a question.
“What are you doing here? Why did you follow me here?” I questioned her, my tone laced with command, my facial expression blank.
“I was worried about you, my lord. You have been out for days, I knew you were not in your right state of mind. That was why I came to check on you, my lord.” she replied calmly.
I stared at her in silence without uttering a word.
