Chapter 242 The Dilemma

Chapter 242 The Dilemma
Thorin walked into the house and went straight up into his room. Vespera kept running after him, but he didn’t stop, no matter how many times she called after him. “Thorin! Thorin!” The door shut with a loud bang, and Corvin came running out of his room.
“What? What happened?” asked Corvin, looking worried.
“I don’t know. He was fine one minute, and then he was angry. He didn’t say a single word in the car,” replied Vespera.
“Okay, you go rest. I will take care of him,” said Corvin and patted her shoulder with assurance.
“Corvin!” Tears fell down Vespera’s face. “Will he never let me in? Will he never love me? Can’t you ask him what he wants? I am in love with him, but he feels nothing for me. Am I that bad, Corvin? Tell me!”
Corvin pulled her closer and hugged her dearly. “No, Vespera! You are the best thing that ever happened to him. You know we all call him a fool for dragging you along for so many years. I will talk to him, don’t worry. You will be the luna. No one will be better than you.” Suddenly, Corvin felt like he should tell Vespera about Eve. He was getting a strong urge to spill the beans. But the moment Eve’s face flashed before his eyes, the urge to protect her drowned the urge to talk about her.
“Has he found someone, Corvin? Does he love someone else? Please tell me; I can take it. I promised him that if he found his true love, I would let him go, let him find his happiness,” sobbed Vespera.
Corvin’s mouth opened automatically, and he was about to utter the truth when Eve's pitiful face, crying and fighting with the goons at the lobby of the hotel, flashed at the back of his mind. “Protect her! Protect her name!” his mind kept uttering to him.
“No, Vespera. There is no one. Where will he find someone? He has always been with us and the Moon Goddess chose you for him. Why are you so insecure? Just give him time. Everything will be fine,” replied Corvin. His mind felt like it was going to turn into a mush; two contradictory feelings were clashing inside him. One feeling wanted him to tell Vespera everything he knew, and the other overwhelming thought of protecting Eve was making him lie to her.
He urgently pushed her away from him and took a few steps back. He almost ran to Thorin’s room and shouted, “Go back to your room. I will talk to him. Go!”
“Okay, okay,” Vespera wiped her tears and walked away. Finally, the feeling of telling the truth to Vespera vanished. He had no idea why he felt like that. Maybe his heart felt guilty after hiding Eve from Vespera for years.
“Open the door, Thorin!” snapped Corvin.
Thorin immediately opened the door, pulled Corvin inside with force, and urgently closed the door. He pulled Corvin so fast that Corvin almost stumbled and fell down on his knees. “Ow! You idiot! What are you doing?”
Thorin didn’t give Corvin any time to stand up. He slid on the floor and landed next to Corvin. Thorin shouted at Corvin after grabbing his shoulder and shaking him vigorously, “She was there. She is here!”
“She was there? She is here? Huh? What? You are making no sense! And I am so angry with you. Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep telling lies to Vespera? Whenever she asks, I feel like something, someone is forcing me to speak. I want to tell her everything. I don’t want to keep her in the dark. She is a good girl. Can we tell her? Maybe she will help us and hide everything from Ozul and others,” snapped Corvin.
“No! Don’t, Corvin. Even if she wants to help us, it means that her life would be in danger too. The fewer people know, the better it will be,” cried Thorin loudly.
“Oh, you are right. I didn’t think of it this way. Whoever knows about a human you are interested in, their life would be in danger,” nodded Corvin. “But what do you mean by she was there, where?”
“The mall! I got the smell again. She was there. Since we arrived in Veyantara, we have been getting her traces; I know now for sure that she is here. We just have to keep looking for her, and we will keep her hidden,” said Thorin.
“But Thorin, five years have passed. Do you really think she waited for you?” asked Corvin. His question was like a shock to his senses. He immediately recalled how Valeska shouted Mommy and the smell came from that direction. What if Eve, too, was married and had a kid? What would he do then? She was his true love; what if he had lost her?
“Wait! Who’s that?” asked Corvin, urgently.
“What? What? Who?” asked Thorin, slightly shocked, slightly embarrassed.
“That girl! That little girl! Who’s that? Why does she look like you?” asked Corvin, shocked.
“What nonsense! And get out of my head!!” shouted Thorin.
“Thorin! Don’t think like that. That cannot happen, you know that,” warned Corvin. He then chose to talk to Thorin via telepathy. “Did you get her pregnant that night?”
Thorin bit his lips and clenched his fists, “I… I don’t know. But if she was pregnant, why didn’t she tell me? Why didn’t she ever come to me? I am going to lose my mind, Corvin. Help me!”
“Only one person can help you, Eve. You can ask her anything you want after you find her,” said Corvin.
“Promise me, Corvin! You will never tell anything to Vespera! After I find Ozul, I will tell her everything by myself. She deserves the truth from me,” said Thorin.
Corvin and Thorin both nodded at each other, and they were done talking telepathically.
“And what is the test you want everyone to take?” asked Corvin, changing the topic.
“A test I designed myself. No one in the world can pass it; I made sure of that,” replied Thorin.
“Which means you have designed an unsolvable test?” asked Corvin.
“You can say that,” smirked Thorin.
“If it's unsolvable, which means no one solves it, how are they going to pass the test?” Corvin was extremely confused.
“Oh, I am going to judge their expressions, their feelings, their thoughts. If they panic, if they get angry or disappointed, they will fail, but if they keep fighting till the end, they will pass,” replied Thorin.
“So, basically you need me to read everyone’s thoughts.”
“Now you understand, very good!” laughed Thorin.
“You really are an idiot!” Corvin rolled his eyes at Thorin.
“Why do you think I brought you here with me? You can read minds; you can tell me what everyone thinks about me,” smiled Thorin.
“I… I cannot even… I am not talking to you, ever! Using me for my powers! Is that the only purpose I am here for? I hate you! Go find other friends. Go find yourself another beta! Huh!” Corvin fumed in anger and stormed out.
