Chapter 243 The Start of The Test

Chapter 243 The Start of The Test
Corvin was walking to his room when he saw Vespera sitting at the bottom of the stairs, her head resting over her hands.
“Hey! Are you okay? Why are you sitting there? You didn’t even change your clothes,” said Corvin.
“Nothing! Was just thinking,” replied Vespera.
“About?”
“We are new to the office. And we arrived as someone powerful. Will they feel at ease with us? Should we do something for them?” asked Vespera.
“Like what?” asked Corvin.
“Um… a get-together! A lunch party, a simple party or something like that. They will feel at ease with us. What say?” asked Vespera, jumping to her feet with excitement.
“Whatever you plan, we are in! Go for it!” smiled Corvin.
“Should we wait for the test or just plan the party?” asked Vespera.
“You can keep planning, and he will give the tests to everyone. You know planning a party takes time, right?” said Corvin, sweetly.
“Okay! Then I will throw the best party anyone has ever seen,” smiled Vespera, squealed with happiness and ran into her room. Corvin smiled at her, and he too walked into his room.
The head butler called everyone for dinner, and they all sat at the dining table in their night pyjamas. The bodyguards joined them for dinner. Vespera kept talking about her plan for the party, and everyone was excited.
“Should we call your friends too? I know they are coming, but can they come early?” asked Vespera.
“I don’t think they can. First they have to get the paperwork ready and then get permission, funds, their team together, and we also have to find a place for them to live. All our rooms are packed. Where do you want them to stay?” explained Thorin.
“Um… you and Corvin can stay in one room, and three idiots can stay in another, simple. Why do you want to waste money renting another house? Or you can not turn a room into a gym, then everyone will be sleeping in more space,” countered Vespera.
“No, no, I need my gym!” said Thorin.
“Why? Want to impress girls with your muscles?” teased Vespera.
“Ohh, shut up!” Thorin snapped, but all could see him blushing.
“Well, you know we wolves have more muscle mass. You can live without training for a few weeks,” mocked Corvin.
“Then you don’t train. I will train in your place, okay?” taunted Thorin, back.
“Okay, okay, no need to be so petty. You can keep your gym room. But Vespera is right, you and I can share a room, and those three idiots can live in the room I selected. What say?” asked Corvin.
“Okay, we will do that. But they cannot come to the party. We will have to wait for them,” said Thorin. After dinner, Thorin wished everyone good night and walked into his room.
“Don’t keep working. Sleep!” ordered Vespera.
“Okay, I will. Just have to make a few tweaks in my test,” smiled Thorin.
“You never listen to me,” sulked Vespera.
“Work is important too, Vespera. Good night!” said Thorin politely and closed the door. For a few hours, Corvin could hear the tipping-tapping of the keyboard. After that, everything went quiet.
The next morning, Thorin was extremely excited. He had the test ready. He kept grabbing the small hard disk in his pocket again and again. He didn’t want to lose it. The moment everyone entered the office, first all the women giggled after getting a look at two handsome men in the building, and then the seniors were buzzing with the anticipation and stress of the test.
The moment Thorin and Corvin entered the lift, they got a faint whiff of the familiar smell. This time even Vespera noted, “Why does this building smell so sweet?” Corvin and Thorin looked at each other in shock but kept their mouths shut.
“She is here!” Corvin looked at Thorin and said telepathically.
“I told you, she is here. But where?” asked Thorin. “We met every person in the building yesterday; why didn’t we see her?”
“No idea! For the time being, just concentrate on the test,” said Corvin. Thorin nodded at him and was ready. The lift opened at the 6th floor. The smell grew louder. Thorin’s eyes widened, and he had no idea how, but his feet started moving on their own. He ran and followed the scent. He immediately opened the door where Maeve’s team were sitting, and he froze at the door.
Everyone inside the large room stopped working and looked at Thorin for a second. Then they all came back to their sense and stood up from their seat in respect. They greeted him and he too politely nodded. But the girl he wanted to see was not there. His head hung low and he walked back to the lift area. Corvin and Vespera were waiting for him.
“What happened?” asked Vespers.
“Nothing! Nothing! I thought I saw someone. Let’s go!” said Thorin, defeated. He knew Eve was close to him, but where? Why did her smell keep following him everywhere? That never happened in the last five years. But the moment he stepped on Veyantara’s land, he started finding her feeling everywhere. How?
“She was not there?” asked Corvin and looked at Thorin. Thorin shook his head in no. “But the smell? I could smell it, even Vespera!”
“I know! But I don’t know where she is,” sighed Thorin.
Thorin walked to his cabin and called Thessia. “Gather every senior. We are starting with the tests. I need a few things in my cabin. A desk, a chair, a laptop or a desktop system, whatever is available and your best people.”
“You will get everything in under half an hour,” said Thessia and walked out. For about 20 minutes, workers kept barging in and out of Thorin’s cabin. They had to shift a desk and chair and all the other things he had asked for. Soon, all the seniors were standing outside his cabin with their own laptops, notepads, pens, papers and everything they could grab. But they brought nothing for the sweat that kept oozing out of every pore.
The test was about to start, and they had no idea what the test was. Thorin opened the door and stood before everyone. “Welcome, everyone, here’s what we are going to do. I will plug my hard disk into the desktop that your office has provided, which means I have done nothing to the desktop, no changes, no viruses. I have written code for a gaming character, but the code is only half-done. I cannot make the character walk. Whoever finishes the code and makes my character walk will get the two projects I have brought with me. Any questions?” asked Thorin.
“Do we get a time frame?” asked one of the delivery managers.
“Um… no! You can take as much time as you want, a day, two days, one week, I don’t care,” said Thorin with a smirk on his face. He saw everyone relaxing immediately. “But… you will get only one chance. If you think the code is done, execute. If my character doesn't walk, you fail.”
