Chapter 238 The Feeling and The Smell

Chapter 238 The Feeling and The Smell
After a few hours, Thorin and Corvin came downstairs ready to go to the office. Vespera, too, rested for a few hours, took a bath and dressed in an elegant baby pink knee-length jacket suit. The diamond earrings in her ears complemented the twinkle in her eyes. Vespera kept talking about how excited she was while Thorin and Corvin had their breakfast in silence.

Thorin had no idea why his heart was beating fast. It was like he was going to the school for the very first time. He would see new teachers, a new principal and new friends. He knew that Veyantara's office was filled with half-wolf and half-human employees. He would have to be careful. He also made a point of asking about Jane Doe from Eirik after he would explain his project to the selected team members.

“Calm down!” Thorin heard Corvin’s voice in his head. He looked at Corvin and gulped. “I can smell your nervousness. Calm down! Why are you so stressed?”

“I have no idea!” answered Thorin.

“Oh, I cannot wait to select your team for you,” giggled Vespera and that brought Corvin and Thorin back to the land of the living.

“What? What do you mean?” asked Thorin, puzzled.

“Alpha Kaelen asked me to help you. He knows I find the best people. I have a knack for it. Are you telling me you don’t want my help? Tell me, Thorin!” asked Vespera, hurt.

“Of course I need your help. Why do you think I asked you to come with me?” smiled Thorin.

“Okay, okay, let’s go! I am so pumped,” shouted Vespera in excitement.

Thorin and Corvin smiled at her, finished their breakfast and walked to the cars. “I am sitting with Thorin!” announced Vespera and jumped inside the car before anyone could do anything or say anything.

The cars moved to the office, and Thorin’s heart started jumping out of his chest. Her rubbed over his chest and pondered, “What is happening? Why am I feeling like this? Oh Moon Goddess! What else have you prepared for me?” Thorin clenched his fists and kept his jaw tight. He kept his gaze out of the car. He was aware that Vepsera was saying something, laughing excitedly. For the first time, she was with him out of Kaldreth. She was treating it like a vacation, but for Thorin it was an important decision of his life.

The cars stopped outside the big glass door. Thorin looked at the tall building. It was the tallest building for miles. But it was nothing compared to buildings in Kaldreth. They all let the bodyguards get out of the cars first. They took a lay of the land and then signalled for everyone to get out. Corvin walked out first with a huge smile on his face. Thorin came out next with Vespera clinging to his arm. Thorin took a step forward, and suddenly the chaos in his heart calmed down. Everything felt content to him. He felt like he had achieved ultimate peace. When the sweet smell he had been searching for years hit his nose, he lost his mind.

His eyes went wide, and he immediately jerked his face to look at Corvin. He too looked at Thorin with wide eyes. It was clear that he too felt the same feeling and smelled the familiar scent. They both could feel the soothing aura washing over them.

“You feel that, don’t you?” Thorin sent his thoughts to Corvin. And Corvin was ready to receive it.

“Yes! She is here. Your Eve is here. Get in!” replied Corvin urgently. Thorin jerked Vespera’s hands away and rushed inside. The smell was getting faint. The feeling was slowly moving away. He had to find that feeling, follow that smell.

“Welcome, Mr Blackridge! My name is Thessia Morwen, I am the director of the Veyantara office. We are so honoured to welcome you here. We look forward to your leadership and will continue to work diligently.” Thessia moved the flowers near Thorin, but his eyes were searching for his Eve. He could not see even one familiar face.

“I am sorry!” shouted Thorin and ran inside the building without waiting for anyone to stop him. He had to follow the smell. He kept moving in every direction. The high he was feeling was going away, and the anxiety was taking its place. He wanted that peace back.

“Where are you??” shouted Thorin and looked in every direction to find Eve like a maniac, but she was gone; the feeling was gone; the smell was gone. “No! No! No! No! Come back! Come back!” he shouted like a child looking for his lost mother in a fair.

He stood defeated with his shoulders slouched and tears streaming down his face. He read the sign, ‘bathroom’, and walked inside the men’s room. He stood with his hand on the sink for support as if he was going to drop to his knees if he lost the support. Tears started pooling over the veined marble.

Corvin looked at Thorin running away and knew that he had to take control of the situation. “I am sorry. Long journey, new place. He is not feeling well. I am Corvin Thalor. You can think of me as his best friend, assistant, advisor, brother. Nice to meet you, Thessia Morwen. She is Vespera Calder; she is an expert in hiring people. She is here to help.”

“I am Thorin’s fiancée,” said Vespera with pride and a smidge of smugness.

“Please accept these flowers. Will Mr Blackridge be okay? Should I send someone to look for him?” asked Thessia while handing them the bouquets.

“No need! I will go and find him. I will bring him… where? Where do you want us?” asked Corvin.

“Come to the top floor. We have a conference room there. We can then talk. I will take Miss Calder with us. You can get Mr Blackridge. Will that be okay?” instructed Thessia politely.

“That will be the best!” smiled Corvin. He looked at everyone walking towards the lift area and vanishing before his eyes. A few bodyguards followed Vespera, and a few stayed with Corvin.

Corvin closed his eyes and concentrated on Thorin’s scent. He followed him inside the bathroom and found him standing before the sink, breathing heavily.

“Thorin! Are you alright?” asked Corvin, carefully.

“No, no! She was here. I was so close. Where is she?” yelled Thorin in anger. Suddenly, everything in the bathroom started floating around Thorin and Corvin.

“Hey! Hey! Hey! Look at me!” shouted Corvin, but he maintained his distance from Thorin. The moment Thorin looked at him, he spoke, “After years, after so many years, we found her scent; we got a clue. Don’t do anything rash that will out our identity to humans. Ozul is already keeping an eye on you. And we cannot forget your uncle. Eve is a human. Don’t let anyone figure out that you are losing control for a human. You have waited for her for five years, and now we are close. Wait for a few more days; we will find her. We will find her. Relax, Thorin! relax. Breathe!”
