Chapter 55 Club?
Chapter 55 Club?
Julian's POV
I stepped out of the elevator feeling dreadful. I realized that I was somewhat responsible for Raphael's death. If I didn't pummelled him, he wouldn't have been in that condition. Now how the hell was I supposed to face Laura after this? I turned the corridor and saw Mackenzie coming in my direction. She had somewhat calmed down, but I was surprised she was leaving Laura alone. Her eyes were on the floor as she walked. "Mackenzie?" She looked up. Her eyes were still puffy, but she was alright. "Where are you—" I stopped myself. I reconsidered my question. "Is Laura alone? Is she asleep?" I had almost forgotten Mackenzie and I weren't really on good terms. If I asked her where she was going, she would just retort something hurtful. Mackenzie sniffed. "No, she's—she's got company. Blade's comforting her." She rubbed her cheeks. Blade! He had the balls to show up here after what had happened. He was responsible for putting Laura in the hospital, she wouldn't have had that accident if she was at the Castle. "Alright, thank you." I moved along but Mackenzie's hands brushed my arm, forcing me to stop. "What?" I growled, unable to hide my irritation. "Don't do anything that will stress her," she warned me. "Laura's in a delicate state. I don't want you stressing her." My eyes started twitching. It wasn't even the words she said but the audacity she had to warn me about my own fucking mate. "It's not your place to talk," I retorted. A large frown formed on my face. "Remember that you are responsible for this. I don't really blame you, but I think if you put more insight on the matter before— before you massacred our pack—" Mackenzie stopped and closed her eyes. "If you weren't blinded by rage, maybe Raphael would have still been alive. But still, I don't blame you." She turned away. There it was, the blame and everything. I wondered how Laura would feel about it. —No, I already knew how she would feel about it. But I still had to see Laura. At Laura's ward, the guards held their position there. This was James doing. It was a smart move since her father's attack. We wouldn't take our chances for a second visit on Laura from these people that sabotaged Raphael. I stopped at the door and peered through the glass. Laura was in Blade's hand on the bed. She had fallen asleep, from crying too much. My heart twisted. There was something about the way he held Laura, with his arms around her as she slept against his chest. I was yellow with jealousy. I opened the door and stepped inside and stared at Blade. He looked up at me and gestured at Laura with his head. I glanced at her sleeping body and my eyes went back to him. He understood I meant business. He slowly placed Laura on the bed and I waited for him outside. Blade slowly stepped outside and rubbed his hands together. "The balls you have to come and see her. You know it's your fault she's in that situation?" I reminded him. Blade clenched his jaw. "She's not your property—" "Last I checked, we never divorced." I cut him off. Blade grunted. "You have to understand, you can't be seen around here." "You don't have to remind me about that." I raised my head. "In fact, I've not come here to send you away." I looked back at the window. Laura was at peace as she slept. She would only remember her troubles when she woke up. Blade was puzzled at my words. I guessed he has expected me to come with a fight. The next words I wanted to say to him were heavy. I never believed I would say that to another man, especially when it had to deal with Laura. But I had to. "Look, I get you are the alpha, the Lycan king. But you have to understand that it's not good to be around her when she wakes up." Blade added before I could speak. I remained silent and watched him. "You take care of her," I muttered. Blade narrowed his gaze at me. "What?" "You heard me. I'm not repeating, I have a lot of things to attend to." I didn't give him the chance to utter another word and I left him there. I entered the room and gave a long hard look at Laura. It would be a while before I was able to talk to her again. But if that was what made her happy, I would do it. If Blade was able to console her, I would compromise for that. But only for this period. I walked down to the elevator, never looking behind me at Blade. The elevator closed behind me and I closed my eyes as we descended. "My king?" Twain's voice rang. I opened my eyes and Twain stared at me. "It's good I found you here. I was looking for you," he said. I rubbed my eyes. "Why? What's wrong?" "Come to my office, we will discuss it better there." The audacity he had to ask me to come to his office, but I felt it was something serious. His expression showed it was something he couldn't talk about anywhere. "I see, it's like that?" I asked. Doctor Twain nodded. "Yes, my king." He proceeded to change our floor destination to the tenth floor. He led me straight to his office and locked the door behind him when we sat inside. "What is it?" I asked. "I'm just being careful. That's all." He replied and I rolled my eyes. "No, what do you want to tell me?" He brought out a file from his table that showed X-ray scans. "That's the Luna's scans. We got it as soon as she was admitted." I collected it from him. "What about that?" My eyes went through it even though I barely understood what the images showed. "You told me that she was in an accident, that she collapsed? But that's not what the scans say." I adjusted in my seat and leaned forward to understand what he was saying. "I had to conduct the test twice to be sure of it, I nearly missed it the first time but it was there. She didn't hit her head like you said, she was hit with a club on her head." "Club?" I asked, unable to take the word. Dr. Twain pointed at the scans again. "Yes, a club, a mace. Any weapon that delivers blunt force trauma. She was hit with it. That was no accident, if she really collapsed like you said, it would not have looked like this." I looked at the scan again, thinking I might understand what he was saying. But it still looked confusing. "Here, let me show you." He came to my side and pointed at it. "Look at the way the cranium bends inward, look at the pooling of blood... that can only be achieved with a club, something heavy or even a large stick. She was brought back to life because her body had started healing again. The attack was meant to kill her!" Now that he pointed at the scans, I could see what he was saying. I understood what he was saying but I still couldn't believe it. "What the hell is going on?" I growled. Why would Blade lie about that? Why didn't he tell me she was attacked? I shot upwards and glared at Twain. "Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?" I grabbed his collar. "My king!" He cried out. "I was scared. Things like this happen all the time, I was scared that if I said what happened, I might get killed!" I released him and he fell to the floor. "Not a fucking word of this to anyone if you want to live!" I growled at him. I stared at the scans and dropped them on the table in frustration. This was greater than I thought. "How about Laura? How is she doing?" I asked. "She's stable for now, healthwise," he said and that was all I needed to hear. Without saying a word, I walked out of the office. If Blade lied to me, I had to put him under watch. Then investigate him. But for now, I had a burial to take care of. I felt I should take responsibility and take care of everything. I went to where Raphael's body was kept in the mortuary, but I stopped myself from going inside because Felicity and Mackenzie were inside. As I stood there, James soon joined me outside in the corridor. My eyes followed his stoic look and I sighed. "Have you gotten anything On the type of poison that was used?" I asked him. "Cyanide. They injected a modified form of cyanide into his IV line." He replied. I instantly turned to him. "Cyanide?" "Yeah, the residue was still inside the line." My hands fisted and I returned my glare to the room ahead of us. "Track down the Cyanide, check where it can be gotten from and have those places investigated.”
