CHAPTER 281

CHAPTER 281
Chapter 281

For a good couple of minutes, Haven didn't move. She stood in front of her room door, crying silently. Her heart ached terribly after she met with Tristan. Haven didn't know it would hurt this bad.
Tears dribbled down her cheeks, and she wiped them away furiously.
Tristan didn't deserve any of her tears. Everything was over now. Tomorrow, she would leave this place behind.
Tristan would be gone from her life forever.
Haven sniffled and cleaned her cheeks before she pushed open the door gently. She had snuck out earlier, so didn't want to wake Luious up. She wouldn't want him to have an inkling of what was going on here.
Darkness greeted her vision as she stepped into the room and began to tiptoe towards the bed, trying to be as quiet as possible.
Haven had taken just a few steps when a voice boomed in the room, "Where are you coming from?"
Haven almost jumped up in fright. She turned to see a figure seated on the sofa opposite the bed.
"L– Lucious?" Haven held her chest. "What on earth? You scared me," She tried to calm her thumping heart. Her eyes flew towards the bed; she thought he was sleeping.
"I thought… I mean, you're awake?" She asked as Lucious approached her.
"You didn't answer my question." His voice was icy, and the aura emanating from him made the hairs on her body stand.
Haven's lips trembled when she tried to speak. He was using the Alpha tone on her, but he was her mate after all.
"I went out to get some fresh air," She replied and tried to walk away. She gasped when he yanked her back to face him.
"Fresh air, huh?" Haven frowned. Why was Lucious talking to her like that? Something was definitely wrong, but before she could ask, he had already started to walk out of the room, dragging her behind him.
"Why don't we go get some more of this fresh air?" He added, and before Haven could say a word, he walked out of the room, dragging her behind him.
"Lucious!" Haven gasped as he dragged her out of the room, down the corridor, and out of the pack house.
"Let go! You're hurting me!" She cried, yet his grip around her arm only tightened. He never stopped amidst her yells. When he finally did, Haven angrily yanked her hand away.
"What is wrong with you?!" She almost cried when she saw the dark mark imprinted on her skin. She glared up at him, and for the first time that night, she saw his face.
His blue eyes, now pitch black, looked cold as ice. His jaws were clenched, and veins popped out of his forehead. Lucious didn't say a word; he didn't need to. His expression told her all she needed to know.
Her eyes caught sight of the glistening lake behind him, and that was when she realized he had brought her back to the silver lake. The same place she had left just moments ago.
Haven in her head screamed for her to run. Something was definitely wrong with Lucious, but she ignored the warning and took a step towards him instead.
Concern flooded her eyes. "Are you okay?" She asked, placing a hand on his cheek, "What's wrong?" To her surprise, he pulled her hand away.
"Lucious?" Surprise was written all over her face. He wasn't one to reject her touch.
"Isn't there something you want to tell me?" He asked instead.
Haven frowned. " I don't understand. What do you mean?"
"Say something," She urged, but Lucious kept mute. The frown on Haven's forehead deepened. Annoyed, she turned to leave, but the next thing Lucious said was enough to stop her dead in her tracks.
"Tristan"
The name alone was enough to drain all the blood from Haven's face; however, Lucious wasn't done yet.
"Or should I say, your lover?" Haven spun around, eyes wide with shock. "Am I wrong?" Lucious tilted his head a little. "Why do you look so shocked?"
"B– But" Haven stuttered, still visibly shocked, "H– how– how did you–"
"I know everything."
Hours earlier
"Who was it?" His mate asked the moment he stepped back into the room. Lucious glanced at the phone in his hands and back at his mate.
Was he supposed to tell her what Raphael had just told him?
No, he can't do that. That would hurt Haven even more. Bringing her here had hurt enough; he won't want to add to her pain.
" Is everything okay? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Actually, it's nothing," Lucious decided to lie and settled in bed beside her. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
"i– I'll be sleeping now. You should too, you look a bit worried," His mate frowned slightly. Lucious just gave her a reassuring smile, kissed her Goodnight, and turned to sleep. Seconds, minutes, and hours passed by, yet no ounce of sleep came.
Different thoughts ran across his mind; he couldn't believe his mate was actually the daughter of an alpha. She was an alpha herself.
How she had ended up as a rogue, how she had been forced to leave her pack after what had happened to her family in the hands of the rogue, Lucious wanted to know everything. He made a mental note to get Raphael to find out every single information about her.
Besides him, his mate couldn't have probably slept too because he felt her get out of bed.
He opened his mouth to talk, but decided against it when he saw her trying to sneak out. He pretended to be asleep when she looked over and watched her exit the room.
It was almost midnight, where was she sneaking off to?
Lucious contemplated for some minutes before he decided to go after her, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Where was she?
Lucious caught the familiar scent of lilac in the air and decided to go after it, which led him out of the house and down to a lake at the back. The more he walked, the stronger the scent grew; his mate was close.
His nose caught a whiff of something else. Another scent —a man's scent, to be specific. Lucious froze. His limbs became heavy, but he forced himself to inch forward till his eyes landed on his mate standing a few feet away.
Standing before her was a man whom Lucious recognized as the Alpha of this pack. Lucious growled lowly when he saw the man hold his mate's hands. He was about to storm over and yank off the bastard's hands from their sockets when he heard something which made his body go cold.
"All I ask for is a chance. Just one chance, and you'll see how everything will go back to the way it was. We'll start afresh, just me and you, just like before. What do you say?"
What was going on? Haven and this man.. What was going on?
The way the man held her, the way he stared into her eyes, told Lucious everything, but he refused to believe. Haven was his mate.
She can't leave him. She can't!
The more he stood there, the more his heart broke. Will she really leave him for another man?
Will she repeat what Natasha had done to him, too?
Lucious waited for Haven to reject, to scream at the bastard, slap him, or even push him away, but to his disappointment, nothing happened. Realization hit him hard, making him stumble.
Unable to bear it anymore, he walked away, a single tear rolling down his cheeks.
Everything was over now.
