CHAPTER 278
CHAPTER 278
Chapter 278
The next day went by quickly with Tristan hovering about restlessly. He had been hoping to get a glimpse of Haven, but ever since she had arrived yesterday, she had locked herself away in the room reserved for her and the Alpha and refused to come out.
He hadn't seen the Alpha either, and it only made him even more restless. He couldn't believe Haven was in some room with another man; the mere thought of it made his blood boil.
Tristan had also locked himself in his office the previous day. If anything, he didn't want to deal with Mika, so it was best he avoided her, but now, he had to step out. His restlessness was killing him. As he paced about, his eyes flickered towards the quarters assigned to the Alpha and his entourage, his fists balled tightly.
Where on earth was Haven? Was she trying to avoid him? Tristan had seen the look in her eyes yesterday, he had so many things to say to her, all he wanted was to see her but it seemed like she wasn't going to give him that Chance.
No matter, he told himself, she would have to be out of that room in some minutes. The time for his child's naming ceremony was almost here.
"What are you doing here?" Mika's sharp voice came.
"None of your business."
"You.." Her eyes followed the direction of his. "Are you stalking them—"
"Haven," He corrected, not noticing how her face flared up
"She is the Supreme Alpha's Luna for Goddess' sake, Tristan!" Jealousy bubbled in Mika's veins as she said that, but she ignored it.
"You can at least forget about her now," She sighed. At least it was good that bitch now belonged to someone. She would never return to her or Tristan's life.
But why did she have to be mated to the powerful Supreme of all people? How on earth did she get so lucky? The jealousy burned even more. No way, she must have seduced him, that whore!
"Who I should forget is none of your business," She heard Tristan bite back. She was about to reply when the beta arrived.
"It's time," He had come to call them.
His child's naming, which should have been a thing of joy for every father, was nothing but a nightmare for Tristan. He was no less than a statue, standing throughout the ceremony, his eyes only on Haven. He barely heard anything going on; his focus was only on Haven, who looked everywhere but at him.
The sun had set by the time the ceremony was concluded, and everyone had retired to bed, but not Tristan. He stalked over to the bar in his apartment and drowned himself in drinks. He started with a bottle, which soon turned into two. Three? Four?
The list could go on.
" Why are you doing this?" Mika's pained voice reached his ears. She had been trying to talk him out of drinking, but failed miserably. "Please stop, Tristan, please."
He downed another glass and felt it burn his throat.
"Tristan!" She yelled, grabbed the glass from him, and smashed it against the floor.
"Mika!" His hands went up in the air immediately and froze, realizing what he was about to do. Mika stared at him with equal shock.
"You want to hit me?" Her voice was quiet, tears pooled in her eyes, "Because of some bitchy woman?"
"Don't you dare, Mika!" He warned, slowly dropping his hand. His eyes saw red. "That woman is the only woman I'll ever love!"
"And what about me?" Mika practically cried, " What about me, Tristan? Why can't you love me? Why?"
"Because my heart belongs to Haven and Haven alone. I will never love you.. never." His words pierced her heart; he saw a single tear drop down her cheeks, but he didn't care. He turned to grab another bottle; his heart ached badly.
"Why? Why Haven? Why not me?" Was the only thing Mika asked.
"I don't know," Tristan shrugged honestly. Even though he has pondered over that question a lot of times, he got no answer. " I just know it'll never be you." He heard her sucked in a breath as he assessed the bottle in his hand. He should be intoxicated to the level of passing out after so many drinks. Why was he still standing and thinking?
Mika staggered backwards slightly and looked up at Tristan, his back facing her; he didn't even care to look at her.
All her life, she's loved this man; she would sacrifice anything for him, even her life if she had to, yet here he was telling her he would never love her back. A pained smile made its way up her lips.
Her unrequited love would forever remain unrequited. She would never get this man to love her. She realized that now.
"I couldn't get my love," She said, wiping off her tears. " It's alright. But one thing that gives me joy is you couldn't get yours either," She said, making him spin around sharply. A forced smile made its way up her lips.
"The same way I couldn't get you, you will never be able to get Haven!"
"Enough Mika—"
"She belongs to another man now, a man much more powerful than you'll ever be!"
"Stop!" Tristan growled, balling his fists.
"I think that's fair enough. Seeing you suffer without the person you love for the rest of your life— just like me!" Her words hung in the air like a curse as she turned and stormed out, leaving Tristan smashing bottles all around the room.
"We'll be returning home tomorrow," Lucious said, watching Haven comb her hair absentmindedly. "Are you listening?"
"Huh?" She blinked, "Ah, yes, sorry, what were you saying?"
Lucious sighed. He had been trying to engage her in a conversation ever since, yet she kept getting lost. He walked over to her. " What's going on? Tell me"
"What? Why do you think something's going on?"
"Something's bothering you– something has ever since we arrived here. Is anything wrong?" Haven was quick to shake her head.
"N– nothing," She said and looked away, unable to hold his gaze.
"You cried yourself to sleep last night," He pointed out with a clenched jaw. Haven gasped. She had tried to be as quiet as possible.
"Tell me, " He helped her up and turned her to face him, "Please. What's going on? Something is wrong for sure."
" I-I.. I don't feel good," She lied and blinked. More tears were starting to gather, which she didn't want Lucious seeing.
"Can we go back home?" She suddenly blurted out. Lucious stared at her blankly before he said.
"We return tomorrow morning. The ceremony is over anyway. I see no reason to stay back." He wrapped his arms around her and smiled. Maybe she was missing home. They were to go tomorrow anymore. He didn't like her being here one bit.
Her eyes looked extremely haunted, always flooded by tears. She refused to step out of the room even when he had suggested she get some fresh air earlier. She only came out when they were being called for the ceremony, and as soon as it was over, she said they would return to the room.
He had watched her stare at a few places in the black moon house with longing and a distant look in her eyes, and when he'd ask what was wrong, she did reply with nothing.
Hell, Lucious could have even sworn he caught the Alpha of the pack here staring at her one too many times, and that alone was enough to set his blood to boil.
No one liked another man's eyes on his mate. He barely restrained himself from snapping the man's head off, of course. He wouldn't want to leave a small child fatherless.
"I think we should sleep now," Came Haven's voice, to which he agreed immediately. He led her to the bed, tucked her in, and was about to settle beside her when his phone rang.
"Tell me," He walked out of the room to receive the call, " Why are you calling me at this time of the night, Raphael?"
It was minutes past eight, but it was still night.
"There's a problem," Came Raphael's hurried voice. " The pack you're at right now, that's Luna's pack. You are in her very own pack!"
