Chapter 257 - Mates

However I know that Sebastian also felt the same way toward her, and we both might be fighting for the same thing.

But, just because of my brother, I can’t give up on her. If it has come to this I’m going to fight the entire way. I won’t have any regrets.

“Ever since you came, you’ve been healing my broken heart little by little. The emotions I never felt with Nina before, I was starting to feel whenever you were around me. I was rude, and unapproachable from outside. I knew that I needed to change myself. But, you accepted that part of me, melting the ice in my heart. You continued to approach me, never feeling hesitant, before I realized you became my whole world. There’s not a day when I don’t look forward to being greeted by you when I come back from work. You welcome me with a warm smile and that soothes my soul. I find joy in seeing you happy. I treasure the time we spend together doing pointless things. I want to protect you and everything that you hold dear. But, I don’t have that authority yet, unless you give me,” I raised my head to look into her face.

Her face was all flustered red and I couldn’t tell why.

“Are you alright? Are the wounds hurting more now?” I reached out my hand to caress her face.

She placed her hand on top of mine, looking into my face shyly.

“I….I’m not as high as you make me sound like. I only approached you cause you were the first one who ate my not-so-good pancakes and said they were tasty. You fought against your parents for me before anyone. You made me feel safe in your company and always supported my every decision. I’m the selfish one, taking advantage of your kindness. I kept receiving so many things but I couldn’t give anything back to you. I feel pathetic.”

I had to disagree. “That’s not true. You have given me so many things you won’t even realize it. You gave me happiness, you showed me many ways to enjoy life and to be content with every little thing in life. Before you came, my life was dull and boring. But, you brought colors into my life again. My life is all bright and colorful, it’s because of you. I see nothing but darkness if you aren’t in my life. You don’t know how lonely I felt when you went away with Sebastian for 2 days.”

“I don’t deserve your feelings. They are wasted on me,” she said, as a tear ran down her cheek.

“Why do you say that?”

“You are too good for me,” she mumbled, lowering her gaze. “I’m a spoiled princess, who used to sleep on a comfy bed and used to order around the servants for a glass of water. I don’t know how to talk respectfully. And I’m rude and petty. I don’t care about hurting anyone’s feelings. I’m totally opposite from you.”

“You are not the same anymore, are you? You’ve changed and I’m glad to see your improvement,” I replied, “It’s not like I’m all perfect either. We both no good will do our best to be our best selves together, how does that sound?”

She looked at me with a soft smile. “Yeah, sounds best.”

I pulled away, holding onto her hand.

Taking a deep breath, I asked, “I’m not all perfect, but I’ll do my best to become the best man for you. Would you like to spend the rest of our lives together?”

She gave a gentle nod with a smile. “I will.”

My body acted on its own and I leaned closer to her face and kissed her without thinking.

She kissed back and I heard my wolf calling out, “Mate!”

We both pulled away looking into each other’s faces. The shock on her face made me realize that she also felt the bond.

“We are–“we both spoke at the same time.

“I can’t believe it,” she gasped.

“Me too. And we found out after so long?”

Thank god. Sebastian may like her, but she’s mated to me. It’s my victory this time. I’ve finally won.

This may be the best day ever. To be able to spend our lives together as fated mates. I can’t expect any more blessings than this.

“It’s unbelievable–“ she suddenly went quiet lost in thoughts.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing,” she stuttered. “She left while being upset. Won’t you see her off?”

“No, there’s no need for that, I’ve given her my answer already. Now, it’s up to her what she wants to do. I’ve found my mate. I want to focus on our relationship only from now on. ,” I replied examining her wounds from a distance. “I’m sorry you had to get hurt because of me. I shouldn’t have agreed to let them do as she pleases in the first place.”

“It’s okay. Stop apologizing about it,” she assured. “I’ll heal in two days after rest. But, move me to my room. It feels weird to stay in your room.”

“You should just get used to it,” I joked. “Anyway, I need to call Leon. He wanted to see you but I told her you were unconscious that’s why he didn’t dare to come here. You should’ve seen the look on his face after I found you injured. He was holding back tears.”

“He was?”

“Yeah. You stay here, I’ll go call him.”

She nodded.

I walked out of the room and went to call Leon.

He wasn’t in his room. Maybe he’s downstairs.

On the way, I bumped into Sebastian who came back from work.

He stood right across me, and I recalled catching him kissing her. She pushed me away when she was sad, but she’s fated to be with me only.

“What are you looking at?” he grunted.

“Nothing. Have you seen Leon?”

“How would I? I just came from work. He must be killing time somewhere. You know he has the habit of going to the rooftop sometimes. Why not go there?”

“Hm, that’s a good suggestion.”

“Why are you looking for him though? You don’t work in the same company.”

“You don’t need to know about it,” I replied, walking past him.

“Are you trying to avoid me or what?” he retorted. “I have the right to know everything that happens in this house.”

“I told you, it’s none of your business,” I said, walking away. “Kids should stay out of everything.”
