Chapter 30

**Nick's P.O.V**

The mind was a dangerous place to be.

It brings out your fears and show deceptions. It plays tricks on your eyes. Some are not meant to be seen while others leave you shaking in anger.

What I had seen today was something far greater then myself or my species.

Just Hours Before.....

"Get off this land, creature. This place doesn't welcome you here. I will not give you another warning." I said growling. My eyes catches Susan's shattered gaze, my heart softens to the sight before me.

"We will be back, dogs! You have my word." That nasty smelling being sneered at me. My Beta and few other pack members muscles tensed to shift in case they attacked.

They creature left quickly as they had came, the leader himself looked backed at us before turning away. They disappeared into the busy streets until they couldn't be seen again. I picked up Susan into my arms. She groaned in pain and whimpered. I felt her pain.

"I got you, Susan. It's okay, sleep." I said to her as brown eyes began to close slowly. I watched her in my arms. Somehow, it felt right. Her head rests on my shoulder and one arm around my neck while the other in her lap. My fingers brushed the back of her neck and shivers ran down my spine. Good kind of shiver.

"Mate." My wolf howls. "Ours."

Susan's my mate.

Oh, damn.

"What to do now, Nick?" My Beta, Dan said. I looked around and sighed. Tables and chairs was on the floor. The shattered glass lay on the floor as the windows let in a cool breeze. In the chaos, there was some form of calm in the room.

"Call the café co-workers and have them help clean up. Find someone to fix the windows. Till then, I will have the others keep watch for any activity." I said to Dan who nodded, and called another pack member as I walked out what's left of the café.

Walking up to my car, I struggled to open the door. When I grabbed the handle, I slowly placed Susan in the passenger seat. I placed the belt around her body and I brushed the hair that fallen on her face. I looked at her one last time before I walked the driver seat.

I sighed and muttered, "What a long day." With that I drove home.

......................................................

Pulling into the driveway, I looked around for danger from my car. Susan still haven't woken. Slowing down my breathing, I listen to Susan's heartbeats.

Slow and steady.

I got out of the car and mind linked our pack doctor.

"Mason, emergency. Meet you at the medical room." I said taking out Susan's unconscious body from my car, as Mason replied, "Okay, Alpha."

I shut the door with a "bang". Holding Susan close to me, I breathe in her soft honey and lavender smell. It calmed my wolf as I walked throughout the house into the medical room. Mason was already laying out the necessary equipments. He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with black shoes. His hair in a ponytail and a shadowed beard.

"Lay her on the bed. I will do a check up and see what the damages are." Mason said as he went to check her eyes and breathing.

"Umm, I am going check for injuries. But, her sweater..." Mason said trailing off and pointed to her clothes.

"Help me..." I said as he nodded. I lifted her sweater and Mason plucked her hand from the sleeves.

I sucked in a harsh breath as my gaze settled on the bruised skin on her arm and face. It was horrible. I growled and banged the medal plate on the bed in tight fists. Mason was stiffen from shock.

"Jeez, what the hell happened to her?" Mason said as he inspects her injuries even more.

"Rogues came to Milly's and it was a complete mess. Glass everywhere and Milly and Susan was thrown around." I said as Mason cuts her sweatpants. Her leg was bruised beyond anything. Black and blues covered her arms and leg. Mason flipped her on her stomach. He lifted her shirt, I growled. Mason paused and looked at me in question.

"She's my mate." I said looking at him and he mouthed, "Oh."

"Yeah, you know the boundaries that shouldn't be crossed." I said I pushed her shirt up a little bit.

"Don't worry, it's not like I am going to peek at her boobs." Mason said with sarcasm, once again my wolf growled.

"Okay, okay. I am only kidding." Mason said rolling his eyes. "I am going to give her morphine for the pain and for the bruises....she needs rest to heal. Werewolf or human?" Mason said as her got the needle ready.

"Werewolf..." I said as he pushed the needle into her vain. "She should heal within a day or two. When she wakes, go easy on her." Mason said as he pulled back the needle and band aid her wound. I nodded.

"Let's move her to comfortable room. And tell me more about these rouges. I might have some information." Mason said and I took Susan's body in my arms once again.

We walked to my room, Mason open the door and stood there. I placed her body on the top of the black silk sheets and covered her with a warm blanket.

I gave her one last look as I closed the door and walked behind Mason to his room. I sat on his bed and looked around. (Bed With Laptop Is How I Pictured Mason's Room To Be Like. The other bed is Nick's bedroom.) This dude was a medical nerd. Books and books everywhere across his walls.

"What were these rouges doing at Milly's?" Mason asked as he took out some ancient books from his shelves.

"I don't know. They trashed the place and taken out Milly before I could speak to her."

"Hmmm, did they leave any scent behind?"

"No. Nothing, no scent. Why?"

"That's unusual. Every creature of the supernatural leaves behind a scent." Mason started flipping through the books.

"He did call me a dog, do we really smell like that?" I said sniffing myself. I smell like Calvin Klein's.

"Doesn't work like that. Every creature has specific smell according to scientists of the supernatural. It leaves behind a trail almost like a territorial belonging." Mason says folding his arms and hip braced against the desk.

"So what do we do now?" I asked him and walked to him and flipped through the books. Looking at the pictures of the books. It was pretty graphic.

"Right now, I would worry about the girl and the pack." Mason says and sighs while putting the books back to their place.

I sat back on the bed and placed my head my hands. "Damn, I didn't even expect them to cross territory." I said stressed.

I was so shocked at what I discovered. I haven't even heard of shifters. Didn't even know they existed.

"Can't say for sure. But, right now just worry about the girl waking up without nightmares. I will try to find out more from my associates." Mason said as he pulled out his suitcase from under the bed. He grabbed clothes and piled them in the suitcase.

"You sure you want to leave now?" I asked looking at me.

"Yes, I have to. It's the only way to find out what we are dealing with. In the meantime, my cousin will be helping with the medical necessary issues. I mind linked her and she should be here before the night falls." Mason said as took his jacket and put it on.

"Okay, I appreciate it. Thank you, Mason. Stay safe brother." I said and we hugged and he patted my back.

"Anytime, Nick." With that said, Mason walked out the door with his suitcase rolling behind him. The front door echoed his departure.

I groaned and plunged myself back on Mason's bed. I rubbed my forehead to ease the on coming headache.

These bloody shapeshifter or whatever they are a pain in my ass. There's no way they would be expected to be in existence. And the leader made a promise that he will be back.

I raised myself up from Mason's bed. I looked out the window of the setting sun.

I made a promise to myself and the shapeshifter.

Man to man.

Eye to eye.

For him.

I will be waiting.
