Chapter 28

ALPHA CALLE

When I saw Daphne fall from the landslide, my whole world seemed to collide as well.

Before my sanity snapped, I raced toward the river edge, ready to transform back into human form. But no matter how quickly I could do that, the time between life and death was faster. The mass of huge rocks slammed into the river, causing it to be blocked. The water spilled to the edges, seeking another route. But there was no sign of Daphne.

" Daphne !" Dark and I growled in unison.

No, I couldn’t afford to lose my mate!

I was ready to jump over the cluster of massive rocks when something landed in front of me. My eyes stretched wide when I saw a white wolf. Its coat was extremely glossy, as though it were made of thousands of stars in the sky.

For a moment, I froze. But when the air brought its scent in my direction, all my senses came back to life.

" Daphne, it’s you." I hoofed over towards her. After a few sniffs, we snuggled with each other.

"Yes, it’s me," she said with a whimper.

"You’re back. You can shift again," I muttered, my furry face still rubbing against the back of her head. "But you look a tad different this time than the last time I saw your wolf."

"D-do I look bad because it took a little longer for me to shift again?"

"No," I chuckled inwardly and looked at her face. This was the first time I gazed into her eyes in wolf form. They were still jadeite, but more intense, with flecks of brown and gold. "You look divine, you know that?"

"O-oh, thanks."

We snuggled again.

I didn’t know the meaning of happiness until today. In my twenty-five years of existence, this was the best day of my life so far. When I was five, I remembered my mom telling me stories of mates and how wonderful it could be to be the one the Moon Goddess destined for you. I admit that, after our pack had been abolished, the only thing that kept me alive was the will to get back at those who destroyed my life. On the other hand, my belief about the mate thing vanished along with the death of my parents, and I began to think that mates would only make you weak and vulnerable.

But now, as Daphne and I trekked through the forest, my mind was only focused on her and nothing else. I could feel how joyful she was as the crisp air rushed through her fur. She wandered around, hiking a different route with freedom and a curious mind.

She only paused when she spotted a small stream. "I'm still not sure what I look like," she admitted innocently as she walked over to the water to check her reflection. Tilting her head down at the image, she tilted her head and said, "Oh, Reina, you really are cute."

I chuckled, realizing why, of all the she-wolves, I had been mated to the one who happened to capture my cold heart with no effort.

We spent the night in my room when we got back to the packhouse. After we shifted back to being humans, we took a bath together. The shower had been an unrestrained party of warm water, soap, naked skin, curious hands, and insatiable lips. I let her wash my hair as I dropped to my knees. She was only distracted as I licked her flat belly down to her slit until it dripped while my hands caressed her luscious ass and the back of her thighs. She whimpered and her body trembled while my heartbeat accelerated and I became hot as hell.

So just right after we dried up and threw ourselves on the bed, we made love all night, giving her all I had to give. And when the wave crashed over us both, my lips formed her name.

***

I used to be an early riser because the first thing that came into my mind every time I woke up was work—both regarding the packs I absorbed and the office in the city. But now, when my eyes fluttered open, Daphne’s name instantly registered in my mind. I looked down at her and planted a gentle kiss on her name. She slept like a baby in my arms. Her thick and dark lashes contrasted perfectly with the paleness of her skin. I could gaze at her forever.

She stirred a couple of minutes later, but still, I wasn’t moving. When she opened her vibrant eyes, she gave me a sleepy smile.

"Rise and shine, sweetheart," I whispered, kissing her lips. Her soft moan nearly gave me a hard-on.

"Good morning to you too, Alpha Calle."

I furrowed my forehead. "Didn’t I tell you to drop the freaking ‘alpha’? You’re my Luna. I prefer you call me by my name."

She lifted her hand and gave my cheek a soft squeeze, while below the thick blanket, she intertwined our legs. "Alright, Calle. But of course, if seen by others, I will address you as Alpha."

My hands began to explore her soft body. Being pressed against her, my self-control was at risk. I could imagine that a couple of minutes from now, I would be making love to her again, especially when I noticed she started to drip again from my touch.

"W-what are you doing?" she said, panting. "We are supposed to be having a conversation."

"We are," I murmured in her ear, withdrawing my fingers from her already slick folds. "So, where were we again?"

She gazed up at me, her wide eyes trying to focus on my face. "I… I want to be introduced as your Luna when I already deserve the title. So… so please let us keep this a secret. For now, I want to continue with my everyday routine as a normal pack member."

For some reason, her reasons made me admire her even more. She reminded me of my younger self when I chose to get things done the hard way to earn what I have now. "If that’s what you want, Luna," I said, winking down at her. "Anything else?"

"Um, yes," I bit her lip. There was a bit of hesitation in her eyes. It seemed like something was holding her back to tell me her other concerns.

"Tell me," I said, smiling.

"You might get mad at me for suggesting this, but..." she gulped. "But what if we forget about the revenge thing?"

My smile vanished. Tilting my head, I said, "Why? Do you feel uncomfortable about being involved in a battle?"

"It’s not like that, Calle," she whispered, shaking her head. Her worry made her fidgety, and he was unaware that she was rubbing her hips against me. "Last night, I couldn’t help but think of the purpose of the upcoming war between your pack and the dark Vale. You have everything a man of our kind wants and needs—the packs, the career, and me. I promise to be devoted to you until my last breath. I’ll be by your side through good times and bad. So, do you still want revenge when you are already happy and content?"

Her innocent gaze melted my heart and opened up my mind. Honestly, I thought I was the only one thinking about withdrawing from the revenge. I was overjoyed that Daphne and I both agreed.

She cupped her face after a long sigh. "Just forget about what I said, I know I don’t make sense."

I put her hands on my lips and kissed them before placing them on my bare chest. "If that’s what you wish, then yes. We’re backing out of the revenge plan and focusing on our lives."

Tears began to form in the corners of her eyes as she lifted and positioned herself on top of me. "Thank you, Calle."

"Thank you too—for saving me from getting miserable," I murmured, staring at her glorious body as I wrapped my hands around her hips. A grin formed on my face when she started to grind. "Is this some kind of reward you’re about to give me?"

"Y-yes." She nodded shyly. "I’m not… I’m not an expert on this thing, but I am eager to give you the pleasure you have this time."
